Implementing Dysphagia Screenings In Stroke Patients, Meredith Buller
Implementing Dysphagia Screenings In Stroke Patients, Meredith Buller
Scholars Week
Dysphagia screenings are important to be done for all stroke patients in order to prevent aspiration, pneumonia, and other complications. All patients should be screened regardless of severity of stroke. Many policies outline that all patients should be screened, but many floors are not implementing the policy on all patients. This article reviews research associated with dysphagia screenings and how to properly perform one. Dysphagia screenings should be performed on all stroke patients at the hospital to achieve the best outcomes post-stroke.
Keywords: Stroke, aspiration, screening, dysphagia
Studying The Glacial Melt Of Mount Baker Using Remote Sensing (1999 - 2019), Cole Fletcher
Studying The Glacial Melt Of Mount Baker Using Remote Sensing (1999 - 2019), Cole Fletcher
Scholars Week
With rising temperatures glaciers around the globe are beginning to melt. Melting of large glaciers should be concerning as they can raise the present sea-level which could potentially put near sea-level urban areas underwater. We must observe the rate at which glaciers are retreating. Mountain glaciers are a good resource to observe as they do give a clear visual of how fast glaciers are retreating. This project hopes to give a good visual representation and quantitative measurement of how much glacial melt is occurring at Mt Baker in Washington, United States, in the last 20 years. This project will use …
Effect Of Fertilizer On Snow Pea Plant Height, Alexis B. Burnett
Effect Of Fertilizer On Snow Pea Plant Height, Alexis B. Burnett
Scholars Week
Management practices in gardens are often critical to the height of the plants grown. The objective of this study was to evaluate the differences in snow pea, Pisum sativum, height when grown with Organilock fertilizer compared to without fertilizer in Murray, Kentucky. The snow peas were grown in two separate 3 foot by 4 foot plots, one with the Organilock product and the other without fertilizer. The snow peas were planted at a 1 inch depth and 2 inches apart along a cattle panel in the middle of each plot. Plot A, no Organilock fertilizer, was planted exactly two weeks …

Dueling between Critics: The Cuban Healthcare System
Since Fidel Castro’s health started to deteriorate in 2008, and power was turned over to his brother Raul, many scholars have begun to reflect on his legacy. One area that has attracted considerable attention has been that of the healthcare system that Castro introduced and carried out after the revolution in 1959. Some scholars have cited and explained the positive effects, such as education of the needy, and the introduction of others have isolated the negative sides. Due to the freedom of expression restraints in …
The Perception Of Feminism In The Media, Emily Williams, Chandler Cochran, James Turner
The Perception Of Feminism In The Media, Emily Williams, Chandler Cochran, James Turner
Scholars Week
"The Perception of Feminism in the Media" will focus on the role that mass media has played in the growth of feminism as well as how its portrayal on social media and large news outlets has affected how college students perceive the idea and ultimately form an opinion of feminism based upon it.
Intramolecular Reductive Heck Approach To Guaipyridine Alkaloids, Samantha Grosslight, Hope Spargo
Intramolecular Reductive Heck Approach To Guaipyridine Alkaloids, Samantha Grosslight, Hope Spargo
Scholars Week
The guaipyridine alkaloids are a family of compounds that all share an unusual carbon structure, whose source plants have been used as a traditional medicine in Southeast Asia. Members of the guaipyridine family include cananodine and the rupestines. Cananodine has been isolated from the fruits of the Canaga odorata in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines. Cananodine has been used of decades as a traditional medicine for the treatment of malaria, infections and fever. Studies of cananodine’s biological activity have reveled activity against Hep G2 and Hep 2,2,15 human hepatocarcinoma cell lines, the most common types of liver cancer. Due to …
Gold Catalyzed Lactonization Of Epoxide Esters, Carlos Enciso Lopez
Gold Catalyzed Lactonization Of Epoxide Esters, Carlos Enciso Lopez
Scholars Week
Lactones are cyclic esters of varying ring size that occur naturally in organic compounds. Organic structures such as these have various useful biological activities applicable to antibacterial drugs, potential anticancer drugs, and participants of metabolic processes. Gold catalysts Au(I) and Au(III) are shown in our experiments to be effective in inducing intramolecular lactonization of epoxide esters to form desired lactone products. In our experiments gold catalysts coordinated with epoxides to develop a positive charge on the carbon nearest to the carbonyl. The result is an intramolecular lactonization of the ester via nucleophilic attack of the carbonyl oxygen onto the positive …
Preferred Leadership Attributes Among Liberals And Conservatives, James R. Camp, Austen P. Turner, Joshua Thompson
Preferred Leadership Attributes Among Liberals And Conservatives, James R. Camp, Austen P. Turner, Joshua Thompson
Scholars Week
Previous research indicated that there are 64 preferred leadership characteristics. These characteristics were derived from a review of the current literature on leadership, as well as focus groups and structured interviews. These characteristics can be grouped into 6 leadership styles: Imaginative, Constructive, Synergy, Principled, Virtuous, and Alpha Male. The current study aims to investigate how preference for these 6 leadership styles relates to political party affiliation.
