Using Bioenergetics To Model The Effects Of Climate Change On Bluntnose Minnows Pimephales Notatus In A Western Kentucky Stream, Christian Slone, Christian Slone

Bioenergetics considers a variety of factors like consumption, excretion, and metabolism to quantify the energy use of an organism. A common use of bioenergetics modeling is to help solve fish stock problems. This project looks to develop a bioenergetics model for Bluntnose Minnows Pimephales notatus to help predict effects of climate change on the biodiversity of western Kentucky streams. We used R and NetLogo to create an agent-based bioenergetics model to simulate the size distribution of Bluntnose Minnows under various temperature regimes. Bluntnose Minnow metabolism increases, and consumption decreases with an increase in water temperature. Fish growth seems to be …

Plastic pollution has been a growing concern ever since the first mass produced form of synthetic plastic was created in 1907. The extent and effects associated with decades of plastic and microplastic pollution are the focus of current scientific studies, and methodology to quantify and identify the presence of microplastics in both land and aquatic environments. The purpose of this study is to determine the best conditions to degrade microplastics effectively. Searching For Periodicity In A Sample Of Evolved Stars, Sean Egan

My research focuses on finding periodicity in the light variations of a sample of proto-planetary nebulae (PPNe). Proto-planetary nebulae are stars late in their evolution, when they are in transition between the red giant and the planetary nebulae phases. These come from stars like the sun. Analysis of data shows that these objects periodically pulsate, and some have been found to have multiple periods to their pulsation. The main goal is to find pulsation periods for these PPNe, in order to better understand their internal properties. This research was overseen by Dr. Bruce Hrivnak. This research sought out to do preliminary testing to prepare for honors research in the 2021 academic year. This research focuses on attempting to classically condition cognitive states. Learning tasks were designed to elicit relaxation or arousal in partisans and a combination of EEG data, pupil dilation data, performance on cognitive tasks, and self-report were used to evaluate the level of cognitive states in participants.

During our summer research at the John D Fox Laboratory, we used the 9 MV Tandem van de Graaff accelerator and the Super Enge Split-Pole Spectrograph to make measurements of the neutron transfer reaction 54Fe(d,p) 55Fe to observe and explore excited states of 55Fe and shell structure beyond the magic number N=28. We have created momentum spectra and angular distribution plots of the protons from the reaction which will be analyzed to determine the angular momentum values of states and single-neutron energies in 55Fe in an effort to better understand nuclear structure.

This project aims to assess the relative success of revitalization efforts for seven languages: Welsh, Scottish Gaelic, Irish, Hopi, Navajo, Breton, and Occitan. The success of linguistic revitalization is determined through comparative analysis of minority languages in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and France as seen through each country’s history, melting pot experiences, traditions, language protection laws, education system, in addition to the differing levels of diffusion via the Internet.
