Utilizing Nlp For Structure Learning To Understand Cancer Screening Uptake Utilizing Nlp For Structure Learning To Understand Cancer Screening Uptake, Matthew Davis

MUSC Conference Presentations

This talk will demonstrate how NLP combined with a causal analysis approach can be used to predict and understand cancer screening uptake. Screening recommendations for breast, lung and colorectal cancer put together by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) are based on reductions in relative risk of mortality by detecting cancers at early stages where more treatment options are available. However, not all those recommended to get screened are being screened, and there are many social and economic barriers to increasing uptake. To maximize the utility of electronic health record (EHR), data in free text problem lists, as well …

The Processing Manual As A Tool For Diversity, Equity, And Inclusion, Maggie Mcneely, Kate Mcnally

Library Created Resources

In this presentation, the authors explore how standardized processing workflows can encapsulate today’s minimal and extensible processing methods while simultaneously implementing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) best practices. This was their central purpose when developing the first processing manual at Brandeis University, published in December 2021. The manual includes a processing level matrix, and covers accessioning, surveying, and workflows for five different levels of processing, restrictions, and access determination. The manual also solidifies new workflows which aim to balance the use of extensible archival practices to increase access to collections, with the need to address DEI concerns through transparency, care …

Brain, Behavior, & Dysfunction, Jared Nielsen Aug 2022

Brain, Behavior, & Dysfunction, Jared Nielsen

BYU Research Development Office Research Networking Conference

We are interested in answering questions about the organization of the brain and how neurological and psychiatric illnesses disrupt its organization. To answer these questions, we use a variety of analytical techniques to extract quantitative information from MRI scans. We currently have projects that investigate how the brain is affected in patients with autism, dementia, OCD, and mood and anxiety disorders. Our hope is that the information we learn as scientists will inform and improve the way clinicians diagnose and treat their patients.
