This PowerPoint preserves the presentation at CORE Academy, 2015. All links have been updated to 2023 addresses, or, in a few cases, de-linked. While there is much to add with regard to more recent developments in the teaching of women's history and web resources, this presentation preserves some of the teaching approaches and particular specialties of my decades of teaching, primarily through Women's Literature classes, but also in specialties that stressed online supplements to textbooks and the expanding canon in American and English Literature. Eportfolio Of Haley Galvis, Haley Galvis

High Impact Practices Student Showcase Fall 2023

This ePortfolio is aimed to help me be set apart from other applicants when pursuing my path following graduation. This unique method of showcasing my undergraduate experiences helps to generate a more personal view. Through this course, I made an elevator pitch, which can be found in the "about" page. Additionally, I learned a lot about time management, while balancing this major project with the other responsibilities of this course and my other commitments. Further, I learned how important it is to reflect on an experience and connect what I learned to how I can apply it in the future.

A Negotiated Curriculum: Giving Students Choice And Voice, Brenda Thomas

SoTL Commons Conference

Implementing a negotiated curriculum entails sharing power with students by giving them the autonomy to make decisions of varying degrees about curriculum and pedagogical practices. It is a relational pedagogy that increases student agency and engagement, enhances inclusion and belonging, and models democratic dialogue. Teaching with students as partners rather than to students as objects holds transformational power for instructors as well as students. This session will explore the results of a 3-year research project that examined students’ engagement in learning during their participation in a negotiated curriculum. Session participants will hear how one faculty member implements this approach, reflect …

Relational Employability Stages Of Development, Elizabeth J. Cook

Research outputs 2022 to 2026

The Relational employability stages of development aim to enhance individuals’ employability in a relational world. These stages – Recognition, Networks, Translation and Review – provide a pathway for individuals to cultivate relational awareness, engagement, promotion and reflection in the context of careers. When integrated with the Relational employability teaching-learning framework (Cook, 2023), these stages of development engage individuals in critical self-reflection, evaluation and career planning to advance their relational career development. This integrated approach empowers individuals to thrive and make meaningful contributions, extending employability beyond skills and outcomes to embrace meaningful connections and contributions with others (including more-than-human others). Applicable …

Ib And Special Education: An Italian Case Study, Marita Miller

International Professional Development Partnerships (IPDP) Consortium

During the spring of 2023 semester I had the opportunity to travel with Dr. Renzoni and IPBS to Italy where I completed my student teaching. The program encourages teacher candidates to enhance their teaching experience through not only a different culture but in an Inquiry Based school. This study will examine the differences and similarities of American and Italian IB special education. Specifically, what techniques, strategies, and politics of special education are present in an Italian international IB school. What can learn from this different approach to education and what aspects we can iterate into the American classroom.

Volunteering At An Elementary School, Kaila R. Sobol

High Impact Practices Student Showcase Fall 2023

For this service learning project, I chose to volunteer at Timbercrest Elementary School, my community partner, in Deltona, Florida. Before selecting my service project, I did research regarding parts of my community that needed volunteers to help out. I discovered an article by SF Ed Fund named "5 Reasons to Volunteer in a School" which focused on how "underfunded and understaffed" public schools are. I volunteered approximately eight hours a week at Timbercrest, moving between different classrooms and helping out multiple teachers. While volunteering there, I administered and graded tests, inputed grades, worked with students in small groups, and lead …

Feminist Retellings Of Homer's The Odyssey, 2005-2022, Brenna R. Bretzinger

CURE Proceedings

Over the past two decades, there has been a significant increase in the number of feminist retellings of Greek mythology. These retellings serve to give voice to the marginalized female characters from ancient stories whose characterizations were deprioritized over their male counterparts. Furthermore, these stories connect the plights of ancient women with modern feminists to champion issues that women continue facing today. This study focuses on retellings of Homer’s The Odyssey, but these ideas and arguments are still largely applicable to other retellings of Greek mythology. Along with discussing The Odyssey, this project also analyzes three feminist retellings: …

Hurricane Ian was a category 4 hurricane that made landfall in Lee County, Florida on September 28th, 2022. The Federal Emergency Management Association (FEMA) is responsible for helping affected communities after catastrophic disasters such as Ian. During the FEMA aid application process, survivors are asked to indicate the level of damages.(PERSON). In order to receive disaster assistance, FEMA must verify your disaster-caused damage through an onsite or remote inspection (FEMA). Considerations In The Management Of Juvenile Absence Epilepsy In Pregnancy And In Females Of Childbearing Age, Casey Brew Jan 2023

Considerations In The Management Of Juvenile Absence Epilepsy In Pregnancy And In Females Of Childbearing Age, Casey Brew

Capstone Showcase

JAE is an epilepsy syndrome that typically requires lifelong AED treatment, and valproic acid or lamotrigine is considered first line to manage the spectrum of associated seizures. In females with JAE who become pregnant, there exist risks both from having uncontrolled seizures and from taking AEDs during the pregnancy. Valproic acid carries the highest risks to the fetus but is the most effective in controlling the seizure types seen with JAE. Folic acid supplementation has shown to mitigate some but not all of the fetal risks from valproic acid. Limited guidance from professional organizations exists for management of females of …
