Calorimetry is an aspect of chemistry primarily focused on determining the enthalpy of reactions (∆Hrxn). In the bomb calorimetry technique, the heat of combustion of chemical compounds can be measured experimentally. From this data and the application of Hess’s Law, ∆the Hrxn of several chemical reactions can be determined. The technique of bomb calorimetry can be applied to food, fuels, pharmaceuticals, and many other fields. The objective of the present project is to determine the specific enthalpy of various simple carbohydrates (naturally occurring sugars) through bomb calorimetry and compare it with that of aromatic hydrocarbons.

This attractive methodology promotes a rapid and cost-effective alternative for analyses in areas as diverse as water treatment, food & beverage, natural products, and pharmaceuticals. Operation Supplement Safety (OPSS) is the Department of Defense’s (DoD) go-to program for anything related to dietary supplements (DS). OPSS partners with other federal departments, professional and academic institutions to provide the most current, evidence-based information, resources, and tools for education and decision-making. In March 2022, DoD Instruction (DoDI) 6130.06, Use of Dietary Supplements in the DoD was issued. It states that OPSS will maintain the official DoD Prohibited Dietary Supplement Ingredients List and provide DS educational training.

The problem presented is to automate a fishing kayak to make traveling long distances more manageable while maintaining the flexibility, portability, and size of the kayak without making major modifications to the already working item. The proposed design is aimed to solve the steering issues that a fixed seat in a kayak may have and the consistent paddling by supporting them with an automated system. The device is not meant to interfere with the system's manual operation but to provide a sense of aid when needed.

Chemometrics is a subset of machine learning which has been defined a set of advanced mathematical and statistical methods for the analysis of data. This defines many methods such as chemometrics, artificial neuro networks, support vector machines, and rule building expert systems. Chemometrics allows us to draw information from multivariate raw data, i.e., to discover patterns, causes of the patterns, and, with appropriate algorithms, the variance associated with the patterns. According to CBS News, pickup trucks accounted for around 20% of all new vehicles sold in America in 2022, with the three most popular vehicles sold during the year all being pickups. Using current technology, our project aims to prototype a device that uses computer vision to crack down on this dangerous behavior while working with insurance agencies that provide incentives for customers to adopt the device. Aspergillus fumigatus is a commonly inhaled, respiratory fungal pathogen and an allergen found in flooded indoor environments, household dust, soil, and plant matter. While a competent immune system effectively clears the inhaled fungus, this same fungus poses a significant threat to weakened immune systems due to its potential to invade the lungs, bloodstream and brain tissue. The Corley lab director asked us to design and build a shelf for the robotics lab to help store parts and help organize the lab. The group decided on an electronic vertical rotating shelf design consisting of groups of bins on shelves. The unit is able to store and sort through thousands of pounds of parts and keep track of them using an computerized inventory system to streamline the operator’s workflow and improve efficiency.

Spectroscopy is the study and measurement of electromagnetic spectra resulting from electromagnetic radiation interacting with matter. Each element when excited emits a unique spectrum containing light of various wavelengths. The identity of the element can then be determined by examining the spectra. A spectrometer is a scientific instrument that utilizes optics, mirrors, and lenses to capture and examine spectra. A classroom spectrometer is potentially useful in the demonstration of numerous physics principles such as diffraction, reflection, ray optics, etc.

This can be shown by research measuring children’s development in poverty, the median household income of single parents, and food insecurities and obesity of children in poverty. The first goal of this research is to investigate the patterns of struggle that single-parent families experience in low-income households. This quantitative study examines the willingness of students from a rural Arkansas school district to report weapons being brought to school or violent occurrences happening at school and analyzes the behavior associated with students reporting or not reporting. This capstone project was completed through a partnership with Saddle Up! in Franklin, TN. Saddle Up! provides adaptive riding lessons, therapy services, and equine-assisted learning opportunities for children with disabilities. The focus of this project was to develop an unmounted lesson curriculum that is adaptable for the wide variety of participants served by the organization. Other project activities included conducting movement assessments of equines to determine eligibility for therapy services, completing requirements for the PATH International Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) certification, and providing staff with education and resources to assist children with various performance deficits.
