Introduction Abstract

A review of new archival evidence for Behn’s marriage and genteel status opens the discussion. The Digital Corpus section describes and delimits the texts that constitute Behn’s literary corpus and therefore structure the arguments made from the data. The plain-text files are traced back through multiple mediations to the first edition publications of the works in the Restoration. The history of relevant quantitative criticism is summarized for comparison, and the distinctions between linguistics and literary criticism are highlighted. The largest of Behn’s generic corpora, drama consists of eighteenth full-length plays, mostly comedies and tragicomedies. Her dominant lexical word in this genre is actually Sir, and the chapter details the way in which this small but provocative word operates as a conversational disrupter in the social hierarchies of power in the plays. Although not first, love remains a dominant word in this corpus. It is far more often an action word in her drama than her poetry, but it still functions primarily as a noun in the same formulation of body parts responding to passion. …

Behn’s poetry corpus consists of 80 works from the long verse translation Voyage to the Isle of Love to the briefest song from the play The Wandering Nymph. It is the smallest of the genre corpora, but it proves to be formative for its representation of love. The poetry is analyzed by genres to provide a sense of Behn’s range, notably a high number of songs but also surprisingly quite a few verse epistles. The most eclectic of genres, Behn’s prose corpus consist of twelve works of fiction, prose-meter translations and philosophical works. This chapter addresses the dominance of the Love Letters trilogy, though it treats the work as three separate publications, and offers insights on Behn’s authorship based on concordance data. More so than in the previous genres, Behn explores and defines love through the experimental new forms of discursive writing, and as a result love takes on new qualities of repetition, amplitude and excess. Chapter Abstract

The book ties the thematic threads of the chapters together with an analysis of the words of passion in Behn’s complete oeuvre. In addition to love, the word that ties the book together, Behn’s literary works explore more negative than positive passions with a focus on nervous states of apprehension, fear, doubt and sometimes hope. She also showcases violent, dangerous and extreme passions, hate, revenge and rage. The concordance data reveals, however, that Behn’s passions operate within a moral universe of Christian values where sin and guilt shadow behaviors stimulated by passion. What …

The repository is a centralized database that contains social and behavior change (SBC) cost data from 197 studies in the peer review and grey literature, with data from 1973–2021. The repository was originally developed by Avenir Health as part of the Business Case for Investing in Social and Behavior Change for Family Planning.

While there has been a lot of debate over the impact of online and remote learning on mental health and well-being, there has been no systematic syntheses or reviews of the research on this particular issue. In this paper, we review the research on the relationship between mental health / well-being and online or remote learning. Our review shows that little scholarship existed prior to 2020 with most studies conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic. We report four findings: (a) pandemic effects are not well-controlled for in most studies; (b) studies present a very mixed picture, with variability around how mental …

UV is a proven decontamination tool for microbial pathogens, including the SARS-CoV-2 virus. Lower log inactivation was observed on FFRs than would have been predicted by aqueous-based UV dose-response data for MS-2 bacteriophage and E. coli. Results have demonstrated that FFR materials yield varying results in terms of effective disinfection in experiments conducted on KN95 and N95 face respirators. The highest inactivation for both surrogates was observed with respirator KN95 B. The respirator yielded 3 and 2.75 log inactivation for E. coli and MS-2, respectively at UV doses of 1500 mJ/cm². KN95 A yielded the lowest …

Anthropogenic disturbance can decrease woodland diversity in the species-rich herbaceous layer of eastern deciduous forests, and ant-dispersed (myrmecochorous) plants may be particularly affected due to their limited ability to re-colonize secondary forests. Consequently, we predicted that myrmecochorous plants and their keystone seed-dispersing ants would increase with time since last disturbance, as reflected by young, middle or mature forest successional stage. Specifically, we hypothesized that myrmecochore abundance and richness would be relatively lowest in the youngest forests, moderate in middle-aged forests and highest in mature forests.
