An Analysis Of Possession Outcomes Following Turnovers And Throw-Ups In Sub-Elite Gaelic Football, Kate Emma Timmons, Kieran Collins, Shane Mangan

This study investigated possessions following turnovers and throw-ups in sub-elite Gaelic football, an area only explored at elite level. A total of 1,735 possessions from 48 championship matches involving 67 teams from the 2023 and 2024 seasons were analysed. Binary logistic regression was employed to model the key predictors of successful possessions following turnovers. Turnovers won in contact significantly increased the likelihood of a score (p=.012), while possession duration between 31–90 seconds was associated with higher scoring rates (p < . 001). Although descriptive statistics indicated that more passes led to more scores, the regression analysis revealed possession sequences of 1-10 passes were more likely to lead to successful possessions (p = .004). The first action following a turnover significantly predicted possession success. Periods of 1-90 seconds ball out of play increased scoring odds (p < .001). The findings of the current study provide novel insights into transition play and possession effectiveness in sub-elite Gaelic football, with practical implications for coaching and analysis.

Ongoing global change presents novel challenges to species persistence, including heightened emerging infectious diseases (EID) exposure. While invertebrates lack vertebrate acquired immunity, many species exhibit “immune priming” with enhanced protection to repeated pathogen exposures. This phenomenon could be critical for species of conservation concern, such as for wild bumble bees, where EID risk is amplified through contact with managed bee pollinators. We investigate the potential for immune priming against the honey bee-derived Israeli Acute Paralysis Virus (IAPV) in Bombus impatiens bumble bees. These files contain supporting data for the JGR manuscript Trace Element Transport and Deposition during Magmatic Degassing: The Effect on Martian Rocks and Fines. They report the chemical compositions (major oxides and volatiles) of initial and residual silicate source glasses from degassing and vapor-transport experiments. Composition (wt%) of major oxides calculated from EMPA (renormalized on a volatile-free basis); Cl and SO2 from EMPA (wt% based on total of oxides+Cl+SO2); wt% H2O calculated from micro-FTIR. Files include the raw EMPA and FTIR data, processing, and calculations used to obtain the chemical compositions presented in Table 5 of the manuscript.

Alaskan waters support a diverse array of fish species that are critical to apex predators and substantial commercial fisheries. Archived white lateral muscle tissue for capelin, herring, walleye pollock, and Pacific cod, from 1993 to 1996 were analyzed for 15 trace elements using induced coupled plasma mass spectrometry. This analysis serves as a proxy for assessing trace element concentrations in the Gulf of Alaska and Bering Sea. The highest concentrations of eight of the 15 elements (cadmium, chromium, cobalt, iron, manganese, selenium, vanadium, and zinc) were found in fish from the central Gulf of Alaska, while capelin showed the …

Sustainable and effective strategies for virus inactivation are crucial for ensuring the safety and quality of biological products. The EU's 2021 ban on Triton X-100 for viral inactivation in biomanufacturing has pushed the field to find sustainable alternatives with equal effectiveness. This study compares the antiviral efficacy of Triton X-100 to two classes of eco- friendly surfactants: non-ionic glucosides and zwitterionic amine oxides. We investigated the dependence of surfactant-mediated virus inactivation on surfactant characteristics (tail length and head type) and on the addition of salt at different ionic strengths. Abstract: Studies comparing student outcomes for online vs. in-person classes have reported mixed results, though with a majority finding that lower-performing students, on average, fare worse in online classes, attributed to the lack of built-in structure provided by in-person instruction. The online/in-person outcome disparity was normative for non-major geology classes at the University of Mississippi prior to COVID-19, but the difference disappeared in the years after 2020. Previously distinct trendlines of GPA-based predictions of earned-grade for online and in-person classes merged. Of particular concern, outcomes for in-person classes declined to match pre-COVID-19 online expectations, with lower-GPA students disproportionally impacted. Objective …

This study aimed to assess the awareness and experiences of substandard and falsified (SF) medicines amongst the general public and healthcare professionals in Jordan. Low awareness of SF medicines has been reported internationally, but understanding was needed within the Jordanian context. A mixed-method approach was employed. A questionnaire survey was conducted with 350 members of the general public and healthcare professionals to gather quantitative and qualitative data on awareness, views, and reporting behaviours related to SF medicines. Dataset Description: This dataset consists of an Excel spreadsheet that collates anonymised qualitative and quantitative survey responses. Responses are in Arabic and English.
