Fighting "Don't Know, Don't Care": The Fcda's Public Education Quest, Rachel M. Mihalovich Apr 2001

Fighting "Don't Know, Don't Care": The Fcda's Public Education Quest, Rachel M. Mihalovich

History Theses & Dissertations

The Federal Civil Defense Administration (FCDA) was created in December 1950 to prepare the civilian population of the United States to survive and recover from a nuclear attack by the Soviet Union and its allies. Contemporary civil defense theory dictated that this goal should be met by educating the American public in order to avoid a negative psychological reaction that would prevent survival and recovery. In order to evaluate the success of the FCDA's civil defense program, this study will investigate the composition of the FCDA and its public education program.

This study utilized several types of sources in evaluating …

Theology, Tradition, And Turbulent Times: Ordination Of Women In The Lutheran Church, 1970, Donna L. Koch

History Theses & Dissertations

Only relatively recently in the United States have women officially been able to preach, administer the sacraments, and minister fully to the spiritual needs of congregations as ordained Protestant clergy. The third national Lutheran body, the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS), at both its 1969 and 1971 conventions retained its conservative position, as it …

Human Skeletal Remains From 41cp25, The Peach Orchard Overlook Site, And Their Archaeological Context, Diane E. Wilson, Timothy K. Perttula, Bo Nelson

Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State

Human skeletal remains analyzed from the Peach Orchard Overlook site (41CP25) were recovered from a burial exposed along the eroding shoreline of Lake Bob Sandlin in the mid-1980s. Although the remains appeared to be from a single individual, a minimum of two individuals were represented by the human remains studied by Wilson; there was also one non-human tooth (possibly a deer molar) that will not be discussed in this article. The human remains described here from the Peach Orchard Overlook site are from an Early Caddoan (ca. A.D. 1000-1200) period component, based on the recovery of Crockett Curvilinear Incised and …

Using Literature And Language Arts To Teach The American Revolution To Fifth Grade Students, Tara L. Affholter Jan 2001

Using Literature And Language Arts To Teach The American Revolution To Fifth Grade Students, Tara L. Affholter

All Graduate Projects

Teachers who combine language arts with social studies are not only able to teach content, but can also integrate literary elements and comprehension as well, while using literature groups. Students who were taught using novels, with various writing tasks to complete, lectures, and projects made great gains in social studies content, reading writing and communication skills.
