Logging In The Upper Cumberland River Valley: A Folk Industry, Steven Schulman
Logging In The Upper Cumberland River Valley: A Folk Industry, Steven Schulman
Masters Theses & Specialist Projects
The purpose of this study is to examine the logging industry found along, the upper Cumberland River from the 1870s to the 1930s. Because the industry was very much a part of the economic lifeblood of the people of the region, the study will focus upon the loggers and raftsmen who worked with the timber. Any attempt to describe the lumber business alone would be futile due to the nature of the industry. It is impossible to separate the logging industry of the Cumberland from the general folk life of the area, because of the involvement of the people in …

Rhetoric And Reality In American Political Pluralism : Jackson-Calhoun Controversy In Perspective, Margaret Spencer Wise
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
The essential problem of politics are ancient general, and persistent. A particular political system, such as that of the United States, can be interpreted as a way of coping with recurring problems. Some of the ways a political system deals with problems may be unique, some commonplace. Because it meets its problems in a particular time and place with a special body of past experiences to go on, each political system is unique; so too the American system is unique. But because some problems have recurred ever since civilized men have tried to live together, every political system has had …

Geographical Analysis Of The State-Administered Roads In Kentucky, 1920 To 1970, Sudesh Singla

There are several problems in the study of the growth and analysis of roads and highways. A comparison has been made with other states of the nation with regards to percentage of roads paved and the total road mileage during the same stages.
The second purpose of the study is to determine the structure of growth, locational pattern of roads and major nodal points. The third purpose of …

Senator Albert J. Beveridge And The Politics Of Imperialist Rationale, Leone B. Little
Graduate Thesis Collection
This thesis is an unbiased attempt to look a Senator Albert Jeremiah Beveridge, a man who made history in his own time in his own way. Moreover, this thesis attempt to objectively present Senator Beveridge in the context of the era in which he lived as a generating force in America's colonial adventure at the turn of the century.

"One thing American Indians don't lack is Indian experts. All told, there are probably more experts than Indians. For example, on the poverty-stricken Oglala Sioux reservation at Pine Ridge, S.D., sixty-four research projects are currently under way with a combined cost in academic salaries alone that would feed all the hungry children on the reservation ...
