Archaeological Testing Of Site 41lr92 Lamar County, Texas, Wayne C. Young
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
Testing of Site 41LR92 on State Highway 19 in Lamar County was undertaken by the State Department of Highways and Public Transportation (SDHPT) in May, 1984, to determine eligibility for inclusion within the National Register of Historic Places and to determine site depth, cultural context, archaeological significance and the amount of undisturbed cultural deposits. The site is located along a minor tributary of Robinson Creek which eventually feeds the Sulphur River. Preliminary determinations by the SDHPT were that the site might contain an Archaic component beneath the location of a razed 1950s farmhouse. Testing of the site indicated that the …

Archaeological Testing Of Site 41yn2 Young County, Texas, Joe T. Denton
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
Testing of portions of Site 41YN2, the O. W. Hill Site, in Young County, Texas, was undertaken to determine eligibility for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places and to determine site depth, cultural context, and archaeological significance. The site is located on a hillside and terrace of the Brazos River downstream from the confluence of the Clear Fork of the Brazos River and adjacent to the State Highway 67 crossing. Evidence recovered indicates that insufficient material exists within the highway right-of-way to warrant further investigations and that those portions of the site within the right-of-way do not meet …

Testing of Site 41CW25 on County Road 226, Caldwell County, to determine eligibility for inclusion within the National Register of Historic Places and to determine site depth, cultural context, and archaeological significance, was undertaken in January, 1984. The site lies on a high terrace of the north bank of the Clear Fork of Plum Creek, 1.6 miles east of US Highway 183 where County Road 226 crosses the creek. Evidence recovered demonstrates that insufficient material exists within the right-of-way to support a determination of eligibility for inclusion within the National Register.

A Study Of Five Historic Cemeteries At Choke Canyon Reservoir, Live Oak And Mcmullen Counties, Anne A. Fox
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
From December 1981 to November 1982, archaeologists from the Center for Archaeological Research, The University of Texas at San Antonio, and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation aided in relocation of five historic cemeteries at Choke Canyon Reservoir in Live Oak and McMullen Counties. Thirty-four graves were located, uncovered, recorded, and removed to other cemeteries. During the process, descendants of the families involved provided valuable information on grave locations and identification. Observations were made which will be useful to other archaeologists engaged in similar projects. Information was compiled on customs and traditions of the people of the area in respect to …

An FBI and police informant leads a car caravan of 39 Ku Klux Klansmen and American Nazis into an anti-Klan demonstration in a Black neighborhood in Greensboro, North Carolina. One of the planners of the attack, an undercover Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (U.S. Treasury) agent is absent from the caravan. The caravan is followed closely by an unmarked Greensboro police car. Though the FBI and police are forewarned of the assault, all police squad cars have been pulled from the area.

The Introduction Of European And Asian Cultural Materials On The Alaskan And Northwest Coasts Before 1800, Herbert Kyle Beals
The Introduction Of European And Asian Cultural Materials On The Alaskan And Northwest Coasts Before 1800, Herbert Kyle Beals
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis concerns the introduction of exogenous cultural materials among the native inhabitants of the Alaskan and Northwest coasts prior to the and of the 18th century. It is an investigation of the sources of these materials and the manner and chronology of their introduction. The research is based primarily on data drawn from accounts of native life by explorers and fur traders who visited the coasts of northwestern North America in the 18th century. These accounts are supplemented by ethnologic and archaeologic data collected by anthropologists in the 19th and 20th centuries.

Survey, Testing And Assessment Of Cultural Resources In Portions Of Willacy County Drainage District No. 1, Willacy County, Texas, Patricia A. Mercado-Allinger
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
Two archeological projects were undertaken in the fall of 1982 by Prewitt and Associates, Inc. Both projects were authorized by the Willacy County Drainage District No. 1.
The first investigation was an archeological survey to locate, record and assess previously unknown cultural resources which potentially could be affected by proposed drainage ditch development (Main Floodway Channel) in the central county area. Field inspections of this proposed alignment detected 24 archeological sites. Fourteen of these recorded sites are classified as isolated finds which are presumed to be prehistoric . The remaining ten resources are classified as sites, six containing prehistoric materials …

Arroyo De Los Muertos And Other Prehistoric Terrace Sites Along The Rio Grande, Laredo, Texas, A. Joachim Mcgraw
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
During early 1980, personnel from the Center for Archaeological Research, The University of Texas at San Antonio, were involved in intensive survey and limited testing operations at archaeological sites in a proposed pipeline right-of-way along the Rio Grande, Webb County, Texas. Eight terrace sites, located just south of the city of Laredo, were investigated to determine potential eligibility for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places and for selection as State Historical Landmarks. Both historic and prehistoric cultural materials were identified at these sites including the remains of two previously unrecorded prehistoric burials.

The Berger Bluff Site (41gd30a): Excavations In The Upper Deposits, 1979., David O. Brown
Index of Texas Archaeology: Open Access Gray Literature from the Lone Star State
During summer 1979, the Center for Archaeological Research conducted excavations at the Berger Bluff site (41 GO 30A) in Goliad County, Texas. The site, located on a high bluff above Coleto Creek, had been shown to be a valuable archaeological resource in previous test excavations and was potentially endangered by wave erosion from the waters of the soon to be completed Coleto Creek Reservoir. The excavations were considered necessary as a partial mitigation, under the provisions of the Texas Antiquities Code.
A single three by four meter excavation unit was opened at the site. Depth of this excavation unit varied …

In the summer of 1981, the second season of excavations at the Rancho de las Cabras (41 WN 30) was conducted by the Center for Archaeological Research, The University of Texas at San Antonio, for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, Austin, Texas. This season included further architectural testing and stratigraphic excavations in a large trash pit located during season one, July 1980. A five by six meter area of the interior northwest corner was excavated revealing wall trenches and floors of part of a jacal complex. A more exact plan of Rancho de las Cabras was drawn, and professional …

An analysis of the 1982 field season activities at Rancho de las Cabras (41 WN 30) is presented in this report. Additional data concerning structural details and construction activities at the site are presented. The results of further archival research provide additional information concerning the history of the Rancho de las Cabras site, its relationship to Mission Espada, and the adjacent landowners. An expanded genealogy is presented of the Calvillo and Delgado families, both intimately connected to Rancho de las Cabras. Recommendations are made for further work at the site.
