Technique Of John Galsworthy's Plays, Eugenia M. Gohla Jan 1927

Technique Of John Galsworthy's Plays, Eugenia M. Gohla

Bachelors’ Theses

In any consideration of the modern drama we are at once struck by the fact that until quite recently it has been a theme which has rarely been treated seriously. There have been annals of the stage, biographies of players, but, with the exception of the romantic criticism of the Elizabethan and Jacobean dramatists, English drama has not until recently been regarded as worthy of treatment as a subject of literary study. The reason for this was that for a large part of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries the drama was, perhaps justly, In vary low repute. It was simply …

The Drama As A Factor In Americanization, Florence Scott Van Gilder Jan 1927

The Drama As A Factor In Americanization, Florence Scott Van Gilder

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The main objective before us is to determine how the drama, in its several forms, may be so utilized as to bring about and further Americanization. It will also be necessary to review, rather briefly, the origin and development of the drama, that it may be seen why drama has been elected as our medium.

There have been several difficulties …

Conflict The Universal Law Of The Drama- Its Variations Circumstantial, Leona Peters Furrer

Bachelors’ Theses

"Nothing substantial can be made out of hand and. nothing survives which is not a development of institutions already existing." Thus the drama in its complete ex¬ pression to-day survives and is a development thru many cycles of that which was instinctive in the most primitive races. Thru all the ages man has desired to portray his experiences. Before the written word this desire was expressed thru pantomime aided by song and dance. Later two singers related their adventures conveying their ideas by gestures. This is typically true of the Eskimo. The Aleutian Islanders progressed by employing many personages to …
