Understanding Teacher Cadet Programs As An Effort To Alleviate Teacher Attrition And Increase Teacher Diversity, Maurice Stein
Educational Studies Dissertations
The United States is witnessing an overwhelming teacher shortage that shows no signs of slowing down. With a tarnished profession of being underpaid and overworked, districts are lowering requirements to hire teaching faculty. Research has shown that lack of training significantly predicts a teaching career’s longevity. With White female teachers continuing to dominate the field, schools seek not only to increase teacher retention but also to diversify faculty to match the increasing diversity of the student population. There is a growing interest in high school teacher cadet programs as a potential method to recruit, train, hire, and retain teachers who …

A Descriptive Study Of Louisiana 4-H 8th Through 12th Graders' Perceptions Of Career And College Readiness, Carrie M. Lane
LSU Master's Theses
As youth leave primary education and enter college or a career path, preparing those youth to ensure success has fallen, in large part, upon formal and non-formal youth educators. Encouraging students to apply and complete college has been a focus of education professionals for many years. Historically, gauging college and career readiness (CCR), academic institutions have relied on academic performance in areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics (Mattern, et. al, 2014). The use of academic focused measures instead of student-based evaluation had its drawbacks. While core education is important, measuring soft skills needed for the workforce and college environment …

Predictors Of Growth In Socioemotional Functioning From Kindergarten Entry To 5th Grade For Students With And Without Disabilities, Sydney Shupe
USF Tampa Graduate Theses and Dissertations
The link between socioemotional functioning and academic achievement is well established, as is the evidence showing that children with disabilities often develop socioemotional functioning differently than peers without disabilities. However, few studies have considered how early skills are associated with growth of socioemotional functioning for children, and how that may differ for children with disabilities. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to examine the effect of academic, social, and behavioral skills at the start of kindergarten on the growth of socioemotional functioning from kindergarten to 5th grade; early socioemotional functioning, academic and cognitive skills were analyzed in a series …
