Ncaa Greed And West Point Football Favoritism, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

When dealing with the NCAA you can be certain that there will never be a shortage of hypocrisy. As March Madness gives way to April Sadness two wonderful examples came flying out of the NCAA cupboard.

Bizarre Sport Nuggets, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

I must admit that my head is still spinning. In the last few weeks one bizarre piece of news after another seems to be emanating from the bowels of Sportsworld, and no one with a plastic bag seems to be following along to clean up the unsightly nuggets left behind.

Looking Back On Bobby Knight, Richard C. Crepeau

On Sport and Society

The resignation of Robert Montgomery Knight, The General, The Jerk, The Psychopath, is a troublesome development. The coaching profession is one of those socially useful categories in which a society can place a dysfunctional and dangerous sociopath and give them the appearance of filling a socially useful or semi-harmless role.

The Effects Of Roster Turnover On Demand In The National Basketball Association, Alan L. Morse, Stephen L. Shapiro, Chad D. Mcevoy, Daniel A. Rascher

Kinesiology (Formerly Exercise and Sport Science)

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of roster turnover on demand in the National Basketball Association (NBA) over a five-year period (2000–2005) and compare these results to previous research on turnover in Major League Baseball (MLB). A censored regression equation was developed to examine the relationship between roster turnover and season attendance, while controlling for other potentially confounding variables in the model. The censored regression model was used to account for the capacity constraints by forecasting the level of demand beyond capacity using information from the uncensored observations. The regression model was found to be significant …

Congress Takes On Peds, Richard C. Crepeau

I have been distracted for the last few days contemplating the fact that the United States has 2.7M candy bars in Iraq and 1.6M cans of soda. Is this "the surge" that has been much discussed over the past few months?

International Perspective Of Aquatic Instructors’ Attitudes Toward Teaching Swimming To Children With Disabilities, Phillip Conatser

International Journal of Aquatic Research and Education

The purpose of this study was to examine attitudes of aquatic instructors (N = 23) toward teaching swimming to children with mild and severe disabilities in an inclusive setting. Aquatic instructors from 23 cities in 7 countries participated in the study. Data were collected by mail survey using the Aquatic Instructors Attitudes Toward Teaching Swimming to Individuals With Disabilities questionnaire (Conatser, Block, & Lapore, 2000). A correlated t test showed that aquatic instructors were significantly more favorable toward teaching aquatics to children with mild disabilities than children with severe disabilities.
