Cua Census Report Number 03: Indian Population In Douglas County, Carol Lunbeck Jan 1972

Cua Census Report Number 03: Indian Population In Douglas County, Carol Lunbeck

Publications

In spite of the recent emphasis on minority group problems, there are still significant gaps in the store of knowledge about the American Indian in the urban setting. Omaha is not unique. Much empirical data can be found in the census figures, but it must be extracted and synthesized before it becomes meaningful. Even so, the picture of the urban Indian in Omaha is far from complete. If realistic solutions to the problems confronting urban Indians are to be found, a great deal more empirical research·should precede and accompany the development of programs. Programs which would attack the social inequities …

Comparative Regional Integration And Development: A Substantive And Methodological Inquiry, Andrew Nelson White Jan 1972

Comparative Regional Integration And Development: A Substantive And Methodological Inquiry, Andrew Nelson White

Honors Papers

The analysis of communities as optimum sub-societal aggregates, and their distribution and organization in terms of regional groupings is the focus of this paper and of the research undertaken. Developing nations have constantly to cope with nature and effective implementation of their development plans as they strive to add a measure of productivity and progress to their names while trying to overcome the chronic internal problems of overpopulation, underutilization of resources, unemployment, hunger and poor health and education. It is argued here that only by considering the most regular and common units of differentiated yet organized living, that communities represent, …

A Survey Of The Family Home Evening Program As Used By Priesthood Leaders In The Grand Coulee Region, V. Daniel Rogers

All Master's Theses

This study was designed to survey leadership use of the Family Home Evening Program. A questionnaire was administered covering basic Family Home Evening elements, lesson preparation procedures, and family age and composition. Comments were asked for on observable changes in family and individual behavior resulting from use of the program. Respondents were also asked to indicate the significance they attached to the program.

Briefly the study indicated that few families held the program on a regular basis; that among families with small children the program was more successful than among families with teenage children. Lesson preparation procedures were questionable when …

Graduate Teaching Assistants:A Study Of Exploitation And Conflict In Higher Education, Lynda Hundertmark Jan 1972

Graduate Teaching Assistants:A Study Of Exploitation And Conflict In Higher Education, Lynda Hundertmark

Sociology ETDs

Since the post-war years of the late 1940's and early 50's, graduate teaching assistants have played an increasingly important role in public higher education. They are now an integral and essential part of undergraduate instruction of these institutions; but they are also important to the universities' obligations for research and public service. Where they are not directly responsible for instructional duties, they have relieved faculty members of most of the routine duties associated with teaching, freeing them for responsibilities which are considered more important for today's society.

Yet, even while assistants are performing many duties once reserved for faculty alone, …

A Comparative Study Of The Book Of Mormon Secret Combinations And The American Mafia Organization, Ray G. Morley Jan 1972

A Comparative Study Of The Book Of Mormon Secret Combinations And The American Mafia Organization, Ray G. Morley

Theses and Dissertations

The Book of Mormon and the Book of Moses, sacred scripture of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have woven into their pages a brief history of secret combinations on the "American" continent. Secret combinations have caused the destruction of three previous civilizations that have existed on this continent.

The prophet Moroni warned the Latter-day American inhabitants that "This secret combination... shall be among you..." (Ether 8:24).

The evidence summarized in this study leads one to the conclusion that the American Mafia Organization (Cosa Nostra) is the same organization warned against in sacred scripture.

The Lord's Definition Of Woman's Role As He Has Revealed It To His Prophets Of The Latter Day, Mildred Chandler Austin Jan 1972

The Lord's Definition Of Woman's Role As He Has Revealed It To His Prophets Of The Latter Day, Mildred Chandler Austin

Theses and Dissertations

The Lord has not left women to wonder how to perform during mortality. The teachings of the ten presidents of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have given very satisfying answers to most questions, and have invited women to ask God for inspiration of their own for further, personalized direction.

The counsel of the prophets gives women directions concerning whom, when, and where to marry. However, if the proper opportunities for a Church-recommended marriage don't present themselves, women are told to be patient and to spend their time giving one of the several services for which they are …

Personal Freedom And The Environment As Determinants Of Interpersonally Trusting Relationships According To The Views Of Martin Buber, Carl Rogers, Frederick Perls, B.F. Skinner, And Eric Berne, Mary Anna Tuma Mcadams

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

Small group interaction, as observed and evaluated by five major spokesmen of the past decade, will be the focal point of this investigation. Martin Buber, Eric Berne, Carl Rogers, B. P. Skinner, and Frederick Perls will each be examined, compared, and contrasted in terms of their views concerning human freedom, the essence of man, and man's relationship to his environment. These ideas expressed by the authors will be reviewed in terms of the possibility and potential for interpersonal trust, the manner in which trust between individuals is initiated, and those variables considered most relevant for the emergence of trust. Each …
