An Exploration Of Alternative Causal Models For A Set Of Temporally Ambiguous Social Variables, Charles Edward Mcquade
An Exploration Of Alternative Causal Models For A Set Of Temporally Ambiguous Social Variables, Charles Edward Mcquade
Sociology ETDs
This investigation explores and evaluates several causal models specifying alternative causal relations among a set of temporally ambiguous social variables. Using the method of path analysis and employing current techniques used in the evaluation of such models, several alternative causal models are estimated and evaluated in order to ascertain a pattern of causal relations among the variables which provides the best fit to the data. The study presents four ordinal path analyses of survey data analyzed in a previous Master's thesis (McBride, 1972). Following McBride's theoretical argument, which specifies subjectively experienced feelings of alienation among undergraduate students as a cause …

Collective Hindsight: A Review Of The Grass Roots Primer, Jenifer Robison
IUSTITIA
What do you do when the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers announces that its solution to the hurricane "problem" in New York (four major hurricanes in 200 years) is to build a wall around Coney Island? How do you fight it when a local landowner secures a zoning variance so he can open a game farm whose main access (for its projected 300,000 visitors in 100,000 cars) is the only street in your tiny village? In the days before the citizen's suit provisions of the present environmental laws there was very little recourse for people outraged by plans like …

Robert M. O'Neil's Discriminating Against Discrimination: A Review, Karen Ruse Strueh
IUSTITIA
It is difficult these days to find anyone who will deny that racial minorities have been discriminated against in the area of educational opportunities. Few will deny the desirability of enhancing these opportunities and increasing the number of minority persons in the various professions. But very few will agree on the means that are appropriate to accomplish this desirable end. Robert O'Neil has tackled the awesome task of pinpointing and evaluating the policy considerations that affect the tough choices involved in formulating standards for admissions to professional school programs that will promote academic quality but at the same time allow …

This issue of Review of Applied Urban Research features "A Geographical Approach to Residential Construction Cost Structure," by Gary K. Higgs and William H. Cheek.
The single-family residence is generally the largest and most important purchase of any household unit. Those employed in building these residences also constitute a large proportion of the domestic construction industry and the unique emotional status of a home has made the residence construction and related industries one of the principal material economic indicators.

El Estado De Abandono De Los Menores Venezolanos: Un Estado Predilectual En El Presente, Dora R. Zerpa Bravo
Sociology ETDs
The problem of juvenile delinquency has grown to dramatic proportions in the major cities of Venezuela as the cities have become more congested. There is a mass migration to urban areas of persons seeking employment in the one industry that is heavily supported by the government: the oil industry. In Caracas, Valencia and Maracaibo, children experience acute deprivation in a way of life that is characterized by desease, poor nutrition, inadequate housing and education, lack of medical care, broken families, and unemployment. Instances of mendicancy and criminal behavior are especially prevalent among youth. The general protective legislation, or Estatuto de …
