The Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) was enacted in 2003 to prevent sexual abuse in correctional settings through a zero-tolerance framework. While all states formally acknowledge PREA, the accessibility, clarity, and completeness of the information provided to incarcerated individuals remain uncertain. This mixed-methods study evaluates PREA-related content in 62 state correctional handbooks from 49 states, assessing three core dimensions: readability, findability, and substantive content. Grounded in compliance theory and institutional betrayal, the analysis focuses on how correctional institutions communicate PREA protections, prevention strategies, and reporting procedures. Researchers have estimated that approximately 2.7 million children in the United States have a parent in jail or prison. Since 1991, the number of children with a father in prison grew by 77%, while the number of children with a mother in prison more than doubled (131%). In examining the consequences of maternal incarceration on children, many researchers have found an association between negative child outcomes and maternal incarceration. This project analyzes the rise of far-right ideology within tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs) and offers potential reasons as to why this shift is occurring. Through the analysis of three Dungeons and Dragons (DnD) campaigns from TTRPG show Dimension 20, combined with psychological and sociological research, this work highlights the importance of actions within TTRPGs and their impact on our actual reality. Over time and in light of recent events, questions have emerged regarding the appropriateness of how human remains are handled and exchanged. Linguistic research on how transgender speakers use speech traits commonly associated with gender, such as f0 and /s/, is still limited in scope. Past research has focused primarily on singular gender groups within the transgender community, particularly transmasculine speakers, leaving gaps in how speech differs among transgender speakers. Additionally, there has been little research on how transgender identity influences perception of gender in speech. In drought-prone regions of Eastern Ethiopia, recurring droughts profoundly reshape everyday life in ways that deepen existing gendered inequalities. Drawing on fieldwork conducted in Fedis district, including semi-structured interviews with women, project implementers, and government officials, as well as group discussions with community members, this study explores how women experience, navigate, and resist the gendered impacts of drought. By attending to the sociopolitical dynamics of drought and the development interventions that accompany it, I analyze how these forces restructure labor, land, food systems, and authority in ways that reproduce and exacerbate existing inequalities. For over a hundred years, it has been well-accepted among tort scholars that physicians—as one of the legally recognized professions— determine their own customary practices. Within tort law, and medical malpractice more specifically, customary practice establishes whether physicians breach or uphold the required standard of care toward their patients. The results of our hand-coded examination of decided cases and statutes show a more complex picture. While some states have endeavored to shift the standard away from professional custom, it continues to play a critical, and in many cases a determinative, role in establishing physician liability in most states.

งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ (1) ศึกษาประสิทธิภาพของการบังคับใช้กฎหมายจราจรเกี่ยวกับความผิดเมาแล้วขับ (2) วิเคราะห์ปัญหาและสาเหตุที่เป็นอุปสรรคต่อการบังคับใช้กฎหมาย และ (3) เสนอแนวทางพัฒนาการบังคับใช้กฎหมายให้เกิดประสิทธิภาพยิ่งขึ้น โดยมุ่งเน้นกรณีศึกษาในพื้นที่กรุงเทพมหานครซึ่งเป็นเขตเมืองที่มีความหนาแน่นของประชากรและยานพาหนะสูง การวิจัยใช้ระเบียบวิธีเชิงคุณภาพ ผู้ให้ข้อมูลสำคัญจำนวน 7 ราย ประกอบด้วยเจ้าหน้าที่ตำรวจจราจรในสังกัดกองบัญชาการตำรวจนครบาล 3 ราย ผู้พิพากษาและพนักงานอัยการในเขตกรุงเทพมหานคร 3 ราย และนักวิชาการด้านอาชญาวิทยาและนโยบายกฎหมายจราจร 1 ราย การวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลใช้การวิเคราะห์เนื้อหา ผลการศึกษาพบว่า ประสิทธิภาพการบังคับใช้กฎหมายเมาแล้วขับในพื้นที่กรุงเทพมหานครยังไม่บรรลุเป้าหมายด้านการยับยั้ง แม้กรอบกฎหมายจะกำหนดบทลงโทษไว้ค่อนข้างครบถ้วน แต่การบังคับใช้ในทางปฏิบัติยังขาดความต่อเนื่องและความสม่ำเสมอ โดยมักเข้มงวดเฉพาะช่วงเทศกาลหรือวันหยุดยาว ประกอบกับข้อจำกัดด้านกำลังคน อุปกรณ์ตรวจวัด และเทคโนโลยีสนับสนุน รวมถึงช่องโหว่ของกระบวนการยุติธรรม เช่น การลงโทษสถานเบาในบางกรณี การติดตามผู้กระทำผิดซ้ำที่ไม่เข้มแข็ง และการขาดฐานข้อมูลกลางเชื่อมโยงระหว่างหน่วยงาน ส่งผลให้ความแน่นอนของบทลงโทษลดลงและพลังในการป้องปรามไม่เพียงพอ จากผลการวิจัย เสนอให้พัฒนาการบังคับใช้กฎหมายในเชิงระบบ ได้แก่ การสุ่มตรวจอย่างทั่วถึงตลอดปี การจัดสรรทรัพยากรให้เพียงพอ การปรับปรุงกฎหมายและกระบวนการเพื่อเพิ่มความแน่นอนของบทลงโทษ โดยเฉพาะต่อผู้กระทำผิดซ้ำ การพัฒนากลไกบูรณาการและฐานข้อมูลกลาง การใช้เทคโนโลยีสนับสนุนควบคู่มาตรการฟื้นฟูและการสร้างจิตสำนึกทางสังคม เพื่อยกระดับประสิทธิภาพการบังคับใช้กฎหมายเมาแล้วขับอย่างยั่งยืน

Sykes and Matza’s Neutralization theory (1957) was originally developed to explain juvenile involvement in delinquency, with extensions of this theory being used to understand crime in other offending groups. Although neutralization theory has been widely applied to offenders, far less research has examined how neutralizations may be used by non-offending groups. Adolescents face many challenges during this unique phase of development. Because of this, it is important to identify how to promote resilience and positive adjustment for these individuals. The present dissertation includes three studies which focused on familial and social factors in promoting emotion regulation and ultimately adjustment among middle and late adolescents.

The first study focused on the importance of alexithymia in the relationships between closeness and communication and internalizing problems, namely depression, anxiety, and self-esteem. While the institutional agent framework is well established in postsecondary research, less is known about its role during mid-adolescence. Using relational ethnography and responsive interviewing, this study compares an urban and a suburban high school in minority-majority neighborhoods in Cook County, Illinois, to explore how development is influenced through relationships between sport coaches and high school athletes. The purpose of this thesis is to examine change in the gendered division of household labor between the 1980s and early 2000s. The division of household labor has historically been inequitable reflecting parallel social hierarchies, power imbalances, and systemic inequalities outside the home.

I used a cohort sample of 1,157 respondents combined from the 1988 Wave 1 of the National Survey of Family and Households (NSFH) and the 2003 Wave 3 to test four hypotheses related to gender and household labor. This research addresses the critical need for supporting transgender and gender non-conforming (TGNC) students within K-12 public schools, recognizing the detrimental effects of overlooking their unique needs. Current policies often fail to address these needs adequately, leading to mental health challenges and negative educational outcomes. The study aims to identify the key factors influencing the successful implementation of transgender-supportive policies in schools. A review of current research underscores the importance of challenging existing gender-binary norms and promoting inclusivity for TGNC students. This research analyzes the initiation and expansion of the plastic waste recycling business from the perspective of local innovation, and the agrarian consequences of this business in Minh Khai village, Hung Yen, Vietnam. Originating in the 1980s as individual efforts to diversify household livelihoods amid poverty, Minh Khai’s plastic recycling industry gradually evolved into a community-based economic ecosystem. This project will summarize findings from six oral histories of LGBTQ+ people who lived in Montana, but have left or are leaving in the near future. This project will explore the questions: Why are queer and transgender people leaving Montana? What are common experiences for LGBTQ+ people living in Montana? The answer to these questions will be derived from the stories of the Narrators who provided their oral histories. The questions utilized in the oral histories covered topics of identity, “coming out,” living history, cultural observations, community experiences and perceptions, well-being, healthcare, laws, and reasons for leaving.
