The Narcotic Problem And Its Possible Solutions, Margaret Esther Wiley

Bachelors’ Theses

Because of the importance of drug addiction this thesis will consider the problem of narcotics in the United States medically, sociologically, and psychologically and will offer possible solutions through education, legislation, and medicine. Other works on this subject are: "The Opium Problem", by Dr. Charles E. Terry and Mildred Pellens, and the many pamphlets published yearly by the Narcotics Bureau of the Treasury Department from 1929 to 1937. The Foster Home Contrasted With Institutional Care For Dependent Children, Jane Elizabeth Gauslin

Bachelors’ Theses

This thesis is written in an endeavor to show the superiority of foster homes as compared with institutions for the care of dependent children. In this thesis, I will attempt to show that good foster home care is the most adequate substitute for a normal home.

The Deportation Of Undesirable Aliens, Lee Muth May 1937

The Deportation Of Undesirable Aliens, Lee Muth

Bachelors’ Theses

The social problem of undesirable aliens started with the great influx of immigrants which began as far back as 1830. At that time the care of paupers and criminals was one of the greatest problems confronting our immigration officials. This problem however was not so serious as it seems because, as soon as a foreign pauper was seized he was put in the poor house, which served also as a jail, and he stayed there until the state was able to deport him.

The Social Center And Its Use In Milwaukee, George T. Wilson

Bachelors’ Theses

This thesis attempts to present a clear picture of the social center and the part it plays in community recreation in Milwaukee. Euthanasia Or Mercy Killings, George Joseph Nicoud Apr 1937

Euthanasia Or Mercy Killings, George Joseph Nicoud

Bachelors’ Theses

In this modern and changing world new problems are constantly arising and older ones are being dispensed with. Man has to adapt himself almost daily to changing and more complex situations. The world has advanced to such an extent that in this present generation we are known as "human machines" rather than human beings. Men are worked until they drop off from the strain or they work until they are broken, decrepit old men, no longer a use to anybody and a burden to almost everybody. As our modernity progressed, so also did conventions and ideas. Ideas of morals changed. …
