The Vanguard
The Lutheran Church in America, meeting in convention June 21-29 in Kansas City, Missouri, passed two recommendations which commit that church body to a broader and more intensive ministry to the Indian American. The two recommendations were embodied in the convention report of the LCA's Board of American Missions, and grew out of a special study conducted for the Board by Miss Henrietta Lund, consultant to the United Nations for the National Lutheran Council. Miss Lund has done a number of comprehensive studies for the LCA and other Lutheran church bodies on various aspects of the Church's ministry to the …

The Vanguard
21 students and instructors from the University of Pennsylvania helped local Negroes erect a $10,000 community center during Christmas vacation. The community center was considered an essential support for nine Negro families who are striking for decent wages, because it will provide a focus for an economic co-operative to sustain those who are opposing the current $3 per day wage scale paid to them for sunrise to sunset labor.

The Reference Groups For Educational Achievement Among Culturally Deprived Junior High School Students: A Theoretical Discussion And Preliminary Data Review, Theodore L. Reed

As introduction we have chosen to focus primarily on two issues encountered in the definition of the scope of the study. In chapter one the contributions and limitations of theory and research in the field of social stratification are reviewed. The synthesis of this chapter leads to a more general discussion of assumptions in the second part of the introduction. The postulates which are reviewed define both the philosophical biases and the level of generalization at which conclusions may be accepted.

One of the positive ways the image of Las Vegas is being changed locally and throughout the nation is the emphasis placed on its excellent school system from kindergarten through Nevada Southern University. Southern Nevada, like many communities throughout the United States, is fast coming to realize that the development of a successful intercollegiate athletic program as an important part of the total educational program, is providing a sound national reputation which is contributing directly to the physical and academic growth of the school-and to the area.

Farm Population And Land Development In Western Australia, J S. Nalson, A. W. Hodgstrom

In a recent survey of farms and unallocated land throughout the State the authors looked at the area of land suitable for farming in Western Australia and the number of people available to farm the land in the next 10 to 15 years.
A brief outline of the results of this study and some implications of these results are given in this article.
