The problem of juvenile delinquency is one that has received increasing emphasis during the past ten years. The rise and spread of the Coordinating Council Movement, the number of surveys made by public and private agencies on the subject, the increasing number of books published that deal with the problem and the new knowledge that has come from the Child Welfare Centers, the psychiatrists, and the psychologiste have all been noted and used by the various groups of interested citizens. The total number of required recipes is smaller in the meal planning project but we expect club girls to continue using recipes they made in the "Hows and Whys for Young Cooks" project.

The purpose of this study is a survey of direct welfare relief cases in Graham County, Kansas, including demographic information, case studies, histories, and other pertinent information. The following thesis is based upon a study of 120 direct welfare relief families of Graham County, Kansas. Before giving the case information and the conclusions reached the author has furnished the reader with a brief history of the county as a background for a fuller appreciation of the composite situation.

It is not only fun to cook but it is a worthwhile accomplishment to be able to plan and prepare attractive, healthful meals. Each 4-H club aims to help boys and girls develop the 4 H's found in the 4-H club pledge. The cooking club project aims to teach young cooks some of the Hows and Why of food selection and of cooking.
