Theses and Dissertations
This is a study of certain high school and college students to the thirteen Fireside Programs given under the direction of the General Authorities of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the first three months of 1960. The purposes of this study are twofold: (1) to study the reactions to the fireside program and (2) to study the change in conduct of the audience through the addresses and discussions.

South Dakota Population 1950-1960: State And County Population Gains And Losses, Agricultural Experiment Station, South Dakota State College
Agricultural Experiment Station Rural Sociology Pamphlets (1940-1977)
The general trends of change in South Dakota's population have continued during the 1950-60 decade. The State's total population was enumerated in 1960 as 680,514 persons, a 4.3% gain during the ten year period. This total gain in the South Dakota population was greater than those which have occurred during each of the previous three decades. This 1950-60 increased total growth has led many South Dakotan's to believe that the rate of net out-migration of South Dakota's population during the 1930’s and 1940's must be slowing down or even decreasing. For nine decades voters in the South have cast their ballots in a spirit of defiance to the union. Since 1876, the eleven Confederate States have segregated themselves from the rest of the nation by their extreme faithfulness to the Democratic Party. After reconstruction, the Party became the only effective voice of the section in national affairs, and more important, the primary means of limiting the political strength of their newly acquired colored citizens.
