Careers, Organization Size, And Succession, Louis Kriesberg

Consistent with Grusky's findings, heads of large public health and of large mental health departments at the state level tend to have shorter tenure periods than heads of small departments. Although the positions are filled by political appointment, the professional requirements are sufficiently important that the mechanisms discussed by Grusky can operate. furthermore, the kind of career line, itinerant or home guard, also is relevant; this helps the findings that at the local level length …

Negro College Students' Participation In Sit-Ins, Ruth Searles, J. Allen Williams Jr.
Negro College Students' Participation In Sit-Ins, Ruth Searles, J. Allen Williams Jr.
Department of Sociology: Faculty Publications
Socioeconomic and legal changes in the position of southern Negroes have been accompanied by a changing pattern of race relations and a new attitude on the part of Negro leaders. Data from a closed-answer questionnaire administered to students in three Negro colleges in North Carolina support the hypothesis that sit-in protests are less indicative of social alienation among Negroes than of their identification with or positive reference to the white middle class.

The Conflict Between Musical And Commercial Values In The Minneapolis Jazz Community, Robert Stebbins
The Conflict Between Musical And Commercial Values In The Minneapolis Jazz Community, Robert Stebbins
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
In the world of symphony music people have long been aware of the frequent tensions that may develop between practical and aesthetic requirements. The practical requirements of making a living, however, may conflict with these …
