In September of 1971 The Regents' Commission on the Urban University of the 70's Report recommended that:
"... the Commission recommends that UNO bring educational opportunities to the people by further expansion and development of instruction in Program Centers away from the main campus ......... "
Since the receipt of that recommendation the University has established permanent and ad hoc program centers remote from the main campus (i.e., Center for Urban Education, Allwine Farm, sculpture lab and continuing studies in the WOW Building, YWCA, New Federal Building) in addition to continuing a search for a major facility in the "Downtown …

Atlanta Service-Learning Conference Report, Southern Regional Education Board
Conference Proceedings
Persons concerned with both higher education and community service came together in mid-1969 to discuss the pros and cons of service-learning programs and to determine the need for such programs. The participants at the conference recommended: (1) that colleges and universities encourage student community service, assist in assuring disciplined learning as part of this service, and award academic recognition for the learning acquired by students in service projects; (2) that federal, regional, and state and local governments, colleges and universities, and private organizations provide opportunities and supply the funds required for as many students as are needed and are willing …

Report On Honors Research: An Exploratory Study Of Puerto Ricans In Lorain, Ohio, Karen Beck Skold
Honors Papers
The Puerto Rican community in Lorain, Ohio dates from 1946, when the first 100 workers were imported by the steel company. Since that time the Latin community has grown to 10,000, comprising a proportionately large segment of the city's total population of approximately 75,000. Most studies of the adaptation of Puerto Rican migrants to life in the United States are based on New York City; to my knowledge the Lorain population has never been the subject of a systematic sociological investigation. Although "El Barrio" in New York is still the largest continental settlement of Puerto Ricans and remains a reference …

A Comparison Of Leisure Theorists, Nancy Tobin Hornberger
A Comparison Of Leisure Theorists, Nancy Tobin Hornberger
University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations
Social scientists express growing concern about man's capacity to achieve a state of existence greater than that of mere survival. "Popularizers" and writers of "social criticism" echo this concern. Obviously, because of scientific and technological changes, man's participation is needed less and less in the production of economic abundance. He is, therefore, to be free to engage in other pursuits. Awareness of this impending freedom challenges those intellectuals who wish to describe and to anticipate the direction and quality of man's total existence.

Student Work
Sociological research in the areas of occupational preference and mobility, together with related work in the sociology of education has been concerned almost entirely with males. An all but exclusive preoccupation with the male worker is somewhat surprising considering the fact that census data reveal, an increasing proportion of women in paid employment during the last sixty years.1 An examination of labor statistics by Bossi,2 disclosed that between 1950 and I960, women accounted for 65 per cent of the increase in the labor force. By 1965, according to Davis3, approximately one paid worker in three was …

Verbal Accessibility And Authoritarian Family Ideology: A Study Of 50 Graduate Social Work Students And Their Spouses, Linda Louise Metz
Verbal Accessibility And Authoritarian Family Ideology: A Study Of 50 Graduate Social Work Students And Their Spouses, Linda Louise Metz
Dissertations and Theses
This thesis is the fourth in a series of empirical investigations concerned with symbolic interaction in marriage. Its basic assumption is that personal predispositions of marital partners as well as the social context of their marriage influences marital intimacy particularly the partner's readiness to communicate verbally with each other about important attitudes and feelings.
Fifty married graduate students attending Portland State University School of Social Work and their spouses comprised the sample. The subjects responded to three instruments: (1) a personality scale (Authoritarian Family Ideology – AFI) developed by Jane Loevinger, (2) a measure of verbal accessibility (VA), and (3) …

The Effect Of Nursery School Experience Upon Readiness Of Children In Kindergarten, Glenna C. Boyce
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The Metropolitan Readiness Test, 1964 edition, Form A, was administered to forty children who were enrolled in kindergarten classes in Logan, Utah, during the school year 1967-1968. Twenty of these children (nursery attenders) had attended the Utah State University Child Development Laboratory for at least two, but not more than three quarters with at least half of this nursery experience being during the year preceding kindergarten. The other 20 children (non-attenders) had not experienced any type of pre-school or day care program prior to kindergarten. The two groups were matched by pairs on age, sex, kindergarten teacher and socio-economic level …
Attitudes Toward Creativity Of Day Care Teachers And College Nursery School Teachers, Bonnie Kay Magleby Bishop
Attitudes Toward Creativity Of Day Care Teachers And College Nursery School Teachers, Bonnie Kay Magleby Bishop
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
Previous studies have indicated the importance of teacher attitudes on the development of creativity in children. There were several purposes for this investigation. The major purpose was to develop an instrument to measure teacher attitudes toward creativity in children. The second step was the utilization of the instrument to determine if teachers trained in child development are more positive in their attitudes toward creativity than teachers with little or no background in child development. The third purpose of this investigation was to determine the relations hip between the teachers' attitudes toward creativity and religion, age, and social class.
The creative …

Marriage Role Perceptions Of Husbands And Wives Separated By The Vietnam War, Ella Arlene Bentson
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023
The purpose was to determine how husbands and wives who had been separated because of the war in Vietnam perceived each other during separation. Martial roles were used as the vehicle to convey perception.
A random sample of Jl couples was selected from among the married officers and enlisted men of Marine All Weather Attack Squadron 225 which was based at DaNang, South Vietnam. A questionnaire designed to determine perception of spouse was sent to men in Vietnam and to their wives who resided in various parts of the United States.
The major findings are summarized as follows:
- Correlation of …
