The first of its kind, this edited volume provides in-depth, culturally sensitive material intended for addressing the unique concerns of Black women with eating disorders in addition to comprehensive discussions and treatment guidelines for this population.
The contributing authors—all of whom are Black professionals providing direct care to Black women—offer a range of perspectives to help readers understand the whole experience of their Black female clients. This includes not only discussion of their clients’ physical health but also of their emotional lives and the ways in which the stresses of racism, discrimination, trauma, and adverse childhood experiences can contribute to …
Representations Of Virginity In The Media, Dakota Murray
Representations Of Virginity In The Media, Dakota Murray
Sociology Student Work Collection
This presentation focuses on representations of Virginity in media. Specifically, it uses the three virginity scripts presented within Kelly's Virginity Loss Narratives in ‘‘Teen Drama’’ Television Programs. This includes virginity as a gift, virginity as a rite of passage, and virginity as a stigma. This is supported with the inclusion of various prominent movie and television examples.

‘Maid In The Usa’: Immigrant Women, Domestic Labor And Double Alienation, Shadyar Omrani, Shadyar Omrani
Sociology Student Work Collection
In the past three decades, as the economy of the industrialized countries has moved towards the growing Tech industry, middle-class women have found more opportunities to fill in white-collared job positions (McDowell, 2009). The increase in the rate of women’s participation in the labor market has made them less willing to do (or capable of doing) the housework and child/elderly care _ the tasks which are historically stereotyped as feminine (ibid). Therefore, a considerably growing trend in paid domestic labor is being introduced to formerly blue-collared and dominantly immigrant women (England, P.: 2005). The tasks which are regarded as “labor …
Impact Of Social Media On Feminism, Grace Verkuyl
Impact Of Social Media On Feminism, Grace Verkuyl
Sociology Student Work Collection
This project is about the influence of social media on feminism. It will include what online feminism currently is and what it strives to be, the positives of social media—fighting gender-based violence, change the conversation, social movements, and the intersection of technology and empowerment--, the negatives of social media—gender-based violence, “openness”, race, filtered data, and continuously being “on”—and, what to do now.

The History Of Black Women In Society, La Toya A. Love
The History Of Black Women In Society, La Toya A. Love
Sociology Student Work Collection
There was a time when black women were not considered human beings. They were animals, only good for labor and breeding. As time moved on, black women were stereotyped and still not seen as equal to their white counterparts. Now, black women are breaking down barriers and making history, showing that a black woman is not what society has negatively claimed, but worthy of much more appreciation and respect.
Secularism In The Arab World: Contexts, Ideas And Consequences, Aziz Al-Azmeh, David Bond
Secularism In The Arab World: Contexts, Ideas And Consequences, Aziz Al-Azmeh, David Bond
In Translation: Modern Muslim Thinkers
Explores secularism and secularisation in Arab societies since the mid-19th century.
This book is a translation of Aziz al-Azmeh’s seminal work Al-'Ilmaniya min mandhur mukhtalif that was first published in Beirut in 1992. Both celebrated and criticised for its reflections on Arab secularisation and secularism in the modern history of the Arab World, it is the only study to date to approach its subject as a set of historical changes which affected the regulation of the social, political and cultural order, and which permeated the concrete workings of society, rather than as an ideological discussion framed from the outset by …
Narrative Medicine: Perspectives On Opioid Maintenance, Noorin Damji
Narrative Medicine: Perspectives On Opioid Maintenance, Noorin Damji
Family Medicine Clerkship Student Projects
People who experience opioid addiction often feel marginalized by healthcare workers, or stigmatized by the medical system. Additionally, there are not enough medical providers to meet the needs of people who struggle with opioid addiction. These factors create barriers that prevent the medical establishment from effectively meeting the needs of people who experience addiction. This project compiles rich perspectives of patients on opioid maintenance treatment to share with medical students and providers to foster greater empathy for these patients, and positive attitudes toward managing substance use disorder among future medical providers.

嶺南校園 : 賞樹札記, 嶺南大學服務研習處
OSL Students' Service-Learning Project Output: Booklet
