In nineteenth century America, middle-class families often had domestic servants in their home. Domestic service looked different in various parts of the country and at different points in the century, but a common theme of racial tension and class struggle defined servant/employer relationships throughout the hundred year period. In Ohio, Martha McMillan recorded the events on her family’s farm in a series of journals from 1867 up until her death in 1913. Thousands of pages portray the day-to-day events of a farmer’s wife, her children, and her relationship with farm employees. In contrast to nineteenth-century employer/employed attitudes and practices, Martha …

Sex education continues to be a controversial topic in the United States. This study examines the relationship between sex education styles and actual sexual practices of students from several Midwest universities (n=1042). More specifically, this study looks at the difference in effectiveness between parent and teacher sex education, the effectiveness of safe sex education, and the sexual behavior perceptions of those who practice abstinence. Results showed that parents had a greater influence over their children than school-based sex education, that safe sex education promotes protected sex, and that the perceived acceptance of non-intercourse sexual behavior correlates negatively with abstinence education.

Short term aid has numerous benefits and limitations in contrast with sustainable development. For this project sustainable development is defined as: utilizing the resources in communities and encouraging indigenous leadership to promote well being for future generations. The impact of short term relief is determined by various factors. The focus of this research will be the impact of humanitarian emergency assistance and developmental assistance in the nation of Haiti. The research findings obtained through literature review educates the local community on how to effectively assist developing communities both domestically and abroad to become self-sustaining.

Background: Medication nonadherence, defined as “the number of doses not taken or taken incorrectly that jeopardizes the patient’s therapeutic outcome,” is a major health problem with about 43% of the general population nonadherent to their medications. Medication nonadherence accounts for an estimated 125,000 deaths per year in the US, 33-69% of medication-related hospital readmissions, and an estimated $100 to $300 billion in direct and indirect medical costs. Medication therapy management (MTM), defined as “a distinct service or group of services that optimize therapeutic outcomes for individual patients,” has been found to reduce medication nonadherence. However, many individuals eligible for MTM …

Background: Currently, interprofessional education (IPE) is becoming widely integrated into healthcare professional education with regulating bodies including IPE as a curricular requirement. Although recent studies have concluded that students value IPE, there are a number of challenges associated with initial engagement. Many schools are unsure how to approach this interdisciplinary integration. In addition to IPE, simulation has become an important tool in the education of health professionals. As the first exercise at Wright State University involving interprofessional groups composed completely of undergraduates, interested students from the Boonshoft School of Medicine, the WSU College of Nursing and Health, and the Cedarville …

Bullying Of The Lgbtq Community, Bethany R. Green, Alicia A. Mcleod, Ashlynn Kelly
The Research and Scholarship Symposium (2013-2019)
Our group did a literature review and identified that bullying of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning populations occurs worldwide and is becoming a more prominent global issue. Our group researched and identified bullying in the United States of America, South Africa, Uganda, and Russia. We address these specific countries because of the attention that they have recently received in the media in regards to treatment of people who identify as LGBTQ. We examined this topic and, explored the bio-psycho-social effects of LGBTQ bullying and provided different ways that people can address the problem of bullying of the LGBTQ …
