Family Organization In The Amazon Valley, Saul Benchimol Jan 1959

Family Organization In The Amazon Valley, Saul Benchimol

Sociology ETDs

The plan for this study of the Amazonian family was conceived when the author was living in the Amazon valley. His life in Manaus and other towns in the Amazon valley continuously brought to his attention the problems of family organization. These problems were brought into focus by studies made be Gilberto Freyre, Brazilian sociologist, who had made, thirty years previously, a study of the northeastern family. Later, other studies of the Brazilian family were made. They suggested a similar study of the family in the Amazon valley.

The Problem Of The American Air Bases In Morocco And Moroccan American Relations, Edward Michael Fitzgerald Jan 1959

The Problem Of The American Air Bases In Morocco And Moroccan American Relations, Edward Michael Fitzgerald

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The status of five American air bases in Morocco has been in dispute since Morocco gained independence from France in 1956. The United States negotiated with France and secured permission to build the air bases in Morocco in 1950. Morocco, at that time a protectorate of France, was not consulted in the negotiations. The status of the air bases constituted the major subject of Moroccan-American diplomacy in the three years since Morocco has been independent and in control of her own internal and external affairs.

Engineer Intelligence Guide 15, Collection Of Information On Coasts And Beaches, 1958, Robert Bolin , Depositor Aug 1958

Engineer Intelligence Guide 15, Collection Of Information On Coasts And Beaches, 1958, Robert Bolin , Depositor

United States Department of Defense Military Intelligence

In 1958, geographic intelligence in the US Armed Forces was decentralized. US Army Corps of Engineers was primarily responsible for creation of military intelligence concerning the surface of the earth excluding the oceans and seas for the armed forces of the United States. The Beach Erosion Board, originally an agency performing civil functions, had been preparing coast and beach intelligence since early in World War II. Engineer intelligence guides were issued to provide guidance concerning collection, processing, production, and dissemination of geographic intelligence to elements of the Corps of Engineers.

This Engineer Intelligence Guide contains a definition of Coast and …

Fm 3-130, U.S. Army Chemical, Biological And Radiological (Cbr) Intelligence, 1958, Robert Bolin , Depositor

United States Department of Defense Military Intelligence

An appropriate alternative title for this manual would be “Chemical Corps Intelligence.” When this manual was issued the Chemical Corps was a bureau in the Headquarters, Department of the Army, headed by a general officer called the Chief Chemical Officer (CCO), as well as a branch of the army to which officers and enlisted men were appointed. Among the duties of the CCO were the development and supply of chemical, biological, and radiological (CBR) weapons and equipment, the training of chemical units for service in the field, management of the careers of officers in the Chemical Corps branch, and the …

United States Department of Defense Military Intelligence

This handbook includes pictures and brief descriptions of small arms, artillery, armored vehicles, aircraft, mines, and demolitions devices in use in Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordon, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and Syria. In addition, it includes aircraft markings and illustrations of uniforms and rank insignia. The descriptions of mines also include instructions for disarming them. Section XVIII: The Western World in the Twentieth Century: The Historical Setting

It is probable that most people, if asked to list the characteristics of the Western World in this century, would place at or near the top of their list something about international rivalries. Curiously enough, a similar poll conducted in Europe and North America in 1900 would likely have given equal prominence to the idea that the world had entered a period of increasing international amity. Section XVIII: The Western World in the Twentieth Century: The Historical Setting

Some political analysts place fascism at the extreme right of the political spectrum, Communism at or near the extreme left. This classification has been much favored by Marxist writers who believe that fascism is the last desperate effort of embattled capitalism to stave off the proletarian victory. Doubtless, Communist writers are aware of the value in some circles of the leftist label with its overtones of progress, freedom, and the general welfare. We have already noted the origin of the terms "Left" and "Right" in the French Revolution when they were used to distinguish between the advocates of change and …

Section VI: Renaissance Humanism

The Renaissance north of the Alps was akin to the Italian Renaissance, but it appeared later and developed distinctive features of its own. It had a dual origin in infection and invention. Infection was the result of the brisk traffic of merchants, scholars, princes, soldiers, Churchmen, and artists which passed between Italy and the North, carrying tidings of the new developments in Rome, Florence, Venice, and Milan. In addition, northern Europeans hit on ideas of their own. Since they, like the Italians, were experiencing the growth of trade, urban life, and the centralized state, their response to these events was …

Section IX: Early Modern Europe, 1500-1789

The rise of the national state and the expansion of Europe, which have just been described, were accompanied by the further development of commercial capitalism along lines already laid down in the later Middle Ages. The most notable fact about capitalism between 1500 and 1789 was its overall growth, not so much in the development of new techniques (at least not until the very end of the period) as in the wider use and elaboration of old ones. The New Monarchy and its successors afforded protection to businessmen and something resembling a national market. In addition, the government with its …
