Artificial Intelligence For Scientific Research: Strategic Landscape And Development Recommendations, Jiaofeng Pan, Feng Zhang, Jing Wu
Artificial Intelligence For Scientific Research: Strategic Landscape And Development Recommendations, Jiaofeng Pan, Feng Zhang, Jing Wu
Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
Artificial intelligence is currently driving the evolution of scientific research toward a “fifth paradigm” characterized by intelligence. Major global economies are elevating the integration of AI into scientific research (AI for Science, AI4S) to the level of national strategy, rapidly rolling out strategic plans and policy measures amidst intensifying global strategic competition in this field. Based on analyzing the typical paradigms and strategic value of AI4S, this study examines the global strategic landscape by focusing on major economies such as the United States, the European Union, and Japan; compares and analyzes their policy frameworks regarding organizational coordination, platform development, and …

Dual Helix Drive For High-Level Technological Self-Reliance And Self-Improvement: Systematic Interaction Between Strategic Scientists And The Chinese Spirit Of Scientists, Jianqiang Li, Side Hu
Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
Achieving high-level technological self-reliance and self-improvement necessitates the cultivation of commensurate strategic soft power. This study aims to elucidate how strategic scientists and the Chinese spirit of scientists, through deep-seated “systematic interaction”, form a “dual helix engine” that propels the national innovation system toward an advanced stage. Drawing on complex adaptive systems theory, a three-layer dynamic interaction model is constructed comprising “value internalization–organizational empowerment – ecological co-evolution”. The findings indicate that strategic scientists serve as the personified carriers and strategic executors of the Chinese spirit of scientists. Through paradigm guidance, institutional creation, and cross-boundary catalysis, they translate spiritual values into …
Two Modes Of Sustainable Development Transition, Shuai Zhang, Dajian Zhu
Two Modes Of Sustainable Development Transition, Shuai Zhang, Dajian Zhu
Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
Sustainable development has become a global consensus. Every country should carry out sustainable development transition. Due to large differences in development stages and the ecological impacts imposed on the Earth, developed countries and developing countries ought to adopt different modes of sustainable development transition. By using the Doughnut model as an analytical tool, which has made a significant impact at the forefront of sustainable development research, this paper thoroughly discusses the two modes of sustainable development transition. The Transition Mode of Developed Countries (Mode B) refers to transition from the outer circle to the middle circle of the Doughnut model. …

Resource Security Research In China In The New Era: Evolving Concepts, Paradigm Shifts, And Strategic Pathways, Dong Jiang, Jinwei Dong, Yanzhao Yang, Jingying Fu
Bulletin of Chinese Academy of Sciences (Chinese Version)
Resource security serves as a critical foundation for safeguarding national security and underpinning high-quality socioeconomic development. Major geopolitical conflicts, such as the Russia–Ukraine conflict and the US-Israeli strikes on Iran, have intensified turbulence across global resource supply chains, positioning resource security as a central arena of strategic competition among nations. As a major consumer and trading power in global resource markets, China faces persistently high import dependence for critical mineral resources, and the pressure to ensure resource security amid the pursuit of high-quality development continues to mount. Against this backdrop, resource security is evolving from a narrow focus on supply …

Constructing The Cyber Workforce Gap: Measurement And Its Consequences, Ryan Straight
Constructing The Cyber Workforce Gap: Measurement And Its Consequences, Ryan Straight
Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Cyber workforce-gap figures steer federal strategy, industry advocacy, and the growth of educational programs. Rather than estimating the U.S. gap, this review examines how the estimates are made: through job-posting analytics, survey-based estimation, and federal accounting, each of which must assume its way from instrument to labor market. A census of this journal's complete run illustrates what those figures underwrite in one venue: of 176 items published across eleven years, 51 invoke a labor-market workforce claim, 46 treat it as settled fact, and only one, an editorial, interrogates it. Meanwhile, the producers and auditors of those figures have diverged. Between …
Leading The Way: Dsws In Organizational And Social Work Leadership, Lisa A. Street, Rebecca S. Beeler
Leading The Way: Dsws In Organizational And Social Work Leadership, Lisa A. Street, Rebecca S. Beeler
Journal for Social Work Scholar-Practitioners
Social workers are often overlooked for positions in organizational leadership. Although social workers dominate the workforce in many human services organizations, leadership positions are commonly held by those with general management or other degrees. The lack of educational preparation and formal training in leadership and a lack of leadership presence in the field have been deemed a social work leadership crisis. Yet, social workers possess unique skillsets that can translate well into strong organizational leadership—if properly cultivated, promoted, and pursued. With the resurgence of the Doctor of Social Work (DSW) degree, now is a prime opportunity for more social workers …
Lost On The Moon: A Classroom Activity For Bringing Group Processes To Life, Christin L. Munsch, Allison Lena, Kay Sassan
Lost On The Moon: A Classroom Activity For Bringing Group Processes To Life, Christin L. Munsch, Allison Lena, Kay Sassan
Feminist Pedagogy
This teaching activity reviews key concepts in group processes and introduces students to Expectation States Theory (EST) and Status Characteristics Theory (SCT), two micro-sociological frameworks that explain how inequality of opportunity emerges in task-oriented small groups with consequences for unequal outcomes. The activity is built around a team-building exercise “Lost on the Moon” in which participants rank 15 survival items individually and then in small groups. We adapt this exercise by taking field notes on group interactions and drawing on these notes to facilitate a discussion in which students critically reflect on their interactions with one another. We close the …
"Two Different Histories": Lgbtq Educator Identity In An Era Of Policy Precarity In Further Education, Liberty Heath-Tavener
"Two Different Histories": Lgbtq Educator Identity In An Era Of Policy Precarity In Further Education, Liberty Heath-Tavener
Journal of Queer and Trans Studies in Education
In Zadie Smith’s debut novel White Teeth (2000) she writes: ‘every moment happens twice: inside and outside, and they are two different histories.’ (p. 532) Although this notion related to the struggles of global majority people in Britain after decolonisation, I liken it to the concept of identity for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer (LGBTQ) educators within further education, where their internal thoughts, feelings and reality are often in conflict with external norms, ideals and policies, all of which are geared towards heteronormativity and cisnormativity. Lakoff and Johnson (1980) argue that metaphors transcend rhetorical devices and are an essential …
A Tale Of Two States: Abortion Referenda In The Aftermath Of Dobbs, Shauna Reilly, Ainsley Boggs, Tanner Freeman
A Tale Of Two States: Abortion Referenda In The Aftermath Of Dobbs, Shauna Reilly, Ainsley Boggs, Tanner Freeman
The Journal of Economics and Politics
Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization overturned the access to abortion that had been established with Roe v Wade. As a result, states had autonomy to make statewide policies on this issue. Some states chose complete bans, some partial bans, and others provided continuing access to abortion. This article explores the dueling referenda of 2022 and 2023 in Kentucky and Ohio, respectively, following the Dobbs decision in 2022. Voters in both states voted to continue to permit abortion access in their states, yet access in each state is different. Using case studies, we examine the political nuances and electoral aftermath …
The Methodology Of Multiple Regressions For Gdp Per Capita For Nations In The World Between 0 Ce And 1940, Robert Rogers
The Methodology Of Multiple Regressions For Gdp Per Capita For Nations In The World Between 0 Ce And 1940, Robert Rogers
The Journal of Economics and Politics
A reduced-form model of GDP per capita is estimated using the classical econometric method and two Bayesian techniques, Extreme Bounds Analysis (EBA) and Bayesian Analysis of Classical Estimation (BACE) for the two millenniums. For several variables, such as the impact of colonialism, the Goldstone hypothesis of efflorescence increasing economic growth, and the impact of technology, this paper lends support, especially when the Bayesian methods are applied. Other results are mixed. Generally, the results support use of Bayesian methods by eliminating hypotheses that are not consistently supported over all models.
The Impact Of Presidential Field Offices In Ohio, 2008-2012, Colin D. Swearingen
The Impact Of Presidential Field Offices In Ohio, 2008-2012, Colin D. Swearingen
The Journal of Economics and Politics
Does a community’s proximity to a presidential field office impact presidential election results? Applying community-level data from the American Community Survey, we examine the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections in the battleground state of Ohio. Using spatial regression, we find that the number of Obama field offices within 10 miles significantly increased his share of the vote in 2012. While proximity to a McCain Victory Center statistically decreased a community’s Obama vote share, this result was not substantive. In 2012, a community’s proximity to a Romney field office did not influence the results. Proximity to an Obama field office also …
The Politics Of Passing And Implementing Medical Marijuana In Ohio, A. Lee Hannah
The Politics Of Passing And Implementing Medical Marijuana In Ohio, A. Lee Hannah
The Journal of Economics and Politics
Why did the state of Ohio adopt a medical marijuana policy? And why did it do so in 2016? This article examines the diffusion of medical cannabis policy across the U.S. and to Ohio by describing the evolution of images related to the policy and by exploring the content of the law. Using evidence from legislators’ remarks on the floor of the Ohio General Assembly and interviews with activists and analysts, I show that the direct initiative helped push members of the Ohio General Assembly to write and adopt a medical marijuana law (MML) when they were unlikely to do …
Re-Evaluating Subsidies For Services That Carry No Positive Externalities: A Benefit-Cost Analysis Of Convenience Loop Busing Versus Walking, Anthony N. Russo, Kevin J. Egan
Re-Evaluating Subsidies For Services That Carry No Positive Externalities: A Benefit-Cost Analysis Of Convenience Loop Busing Versus Walking, Anthony N. Russo, Kevin J. Egan
The Journal of Economics and Politics
This paper seeks to provide a benefit-cost analysis of continuous loop busing service offered by The University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. The on-campus busing service is completely subsidized by the university through student fees and provided as a free service to students with less than one-quarter of students currently using the service. Using a contingent valuation survey, we estimate a lower bound mean willingness to pay (WTP) of about $6 per student user per semester. Multiplying by the student body population leads to a total WTP estimate of approximately $37,000 per semester. When compared solely to labor and fuel …
Transitory Ownership: A Spatial Analysis Of The Financialization Of The Housing Market In Cincinnati, Oh, Chad Kinsella, Colleen Mctague, Rafael Ranieri
Transitory Ownership: A Spatial Analysis Of The Financialization Of The Housing Market In Cincinnati, Oh, Chad Kinsella, Colleen Mctague, Rafael Ranieri
The Journal of Economics and Politics
The mortgage bubble that burst in 2007 created an economic environment where many housing properties were transferred from individual households to investors hoping for quick profits with minimal investment. These properties were traded among investors, businesses, and lenders; they acquired a market identity as financial assets; and many of these properties were acquired by “out-of-area” interests. This study examines properties purchased by out-of-area interests that were sold in 2009 within the City of Cincinnati in an attempt to identify the spatial implications of the financialization of this housing stock. The analysis finds that many of these properties were sold multiple …

A Tale Of Two Administrations: A Comparison Between The George W. Bush And The Barack H. Obama Administrations On Border Security, Marcos L. Misis
The Journal of Economics and Politics
Border security remains a prominent political issue in 2018. During the 2016 presidential campaign, candidates from the Republican and Democratic parties referred to the effectiveness, or lack thereof, of policies about border security that were implemented by the Bush and Obama Administrations. This article analyzes the policies implemented by both administrations and compares them in order to assess the validity of claims about these policies made by presidential candidates from both parties during the 2016 campaign. In addition, this article quantitatively analyzes data from immigration and border enforcement policies for both the Bush and Obama administrations and offers possible policy …

Innovation Ecosystem Model To Achieve Sustainability In Palm-Oil Biofuel Development In Indonesia, Fanny Rahmadhitya, Avanti Fontana, Ignatius Heruwasto
Journal of Environmental Science and Sustainable Development
Achieving sustainable expansion of Indonesia’s palm-oil biofuel sector requires overcoming two interconnected challenges: ecological limits on feedstock expansion and weak translation of research into industry adoption. Although innovation ecosystem research emphasizes multi-actor collaboration, existing innovation ecosystem research provides limited understanding of how governance and innovation intermediation can bridge these gaps in the palm oil biofuel sector. Using a constructivist grounded theory approach, the study draws on 12 semi-structured interviews with key policymakers, industry practitioners, and researchers, analyzed using constructivist grounded theory (CGT) and triangulated with policy documents and a structured comparison with Malaysia. The findings reveal two interconnected bottlenecks. First, …

Research On The Early Warning Model Of Online Public Opinion Risk Based On Cross-Social-Media Platforms, Tiejun Cheng, Tong Wang, Jianxiang Wei, Lanping Feng
Journal of Scientific Information Research
[Purpose/significance] Under the influence of cross-social media interactions, online public opinion can ferment simultaneously across different media platforms, deeply interact, and resonate multiple times, which is more likely to trigger a chain reaction of risks or even new types of risks. Therefore, it is significant to analyze the interactive influence of risks based on cross-social media public opinion data to promote the management of online public opinion towards preemptive prevention and early warning. [Method/process] Firstly, based on the analysis of the risk characteristics of cross-social media public opinion, a risk early warning indicator system for cross-social media online public opinion …

Right To The Library: Following Urban Planning Away From Stakeholder Theory, Jaime Taylor
Right To The Library: Following Urban Planning Away From Stakeholder Theory, Jaime Taylor
Urban Library Journal
In the field of urban planning, a well-established and growing body of discourse encourages reconsideration of stakeholder theory. Like urban planning, librarianship has been using stakeholder theory nearly since the theory’s inception, with its prevalence accelerating since the mid-1990s. However, compared to planning, librarianship’s use of stakeholder theory has been undertheorized; in three decades, there have not been meaningful advances or critiques of stakeholder theory’s place in library management. This article will review the advent of stakeholder theory in the business management literature; distill urban planning’s criticism of the theory and ideas for moving past it; and suggest what from …

Safeguarding Childhood: A Comprehensive Review Of Child Abuse In Pakistan, Zohra Asad, Khadija Khaja
Journal for Social Work Scholar-Practitioners
Child abuse is a phenomenon that has affected children from every country, culture, or socio-economic class. Children who are abused or neglected may be more likely to repeat the cycle of violence by entering violent relationships as teens and adults, or with some abusing their children. This paper aims to explore child abuse in Pakistan, the incidence of child abuse, and ways to address it. This academic article seeks to investigate and examine the patterns of child abuse in Pakistan. This report offers insights into the prevalence, types, risk factors, and effects of child abuse in Pakistan by reviewing the …
Treating The Trauma Beneath The Violence: A Reappraisal Of Intimate Partner Violence Perpetrator Interventions, Huda S. Shaikh, Vanessa Cordoba
Treating The Trauma Beneath The Violence: A Reappraisal Of Intimate Partner Violence Perpetrator Interventions, Huda S. Shaikh, Vanessa Cordoba
Journal for Social Work Scholar-Practitioners
Intimate partner violence (IPV) remains a global public health emergency with little meaningful reduction in prevalence over the past two decades, despite extensive micro-level interventions targeting perpetrators through batterer intervention programs (BIPs) and legal accountability mechanisms (Arce et al., 2020; Babcock et al., 2004; Shetty, 2025; WHO, 2025). Using a macro social work and epistemological lens, this paper argues that the IPV field and judicial systems, particularly in the United States, have relied on an outdated and largely reactive paradigm that obscures the trauma histories of perpetrators, neglects intergenerational and neurobiological mechanisms, and perpetuates epistemic injustice toward both survivors and …
Bridging Awareness And Action: A Multilevel Model Of Organizational Learning, Safety Climate, And Sickle Cell Trait Safety Compliance, Kimberly Snowden
Bridging Awareness And Action: A Multilevel Model Of Organizational Learning, Safety Climate, And Sickle Cell Trait Safety Compliance, Kimberly Snowden
Annual DBA Scholars Conference
Despite the existence of NCAA and National Athletic Trainers’ Association guidelines, preventable sickle cell trait (SCT)-related adverse events continue to occur in athletic settings. This study examines how organizational learning capacity, safety climate, leadership commitment, and individual risk perception influence compliance with SCT safety protocols and related safety outcomes. Drawing on Organizational Learning Theory, Safety Climate Theory, and the Health Belief Model, the study proposes a multilevel framework tested through an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design. Findings are expected to identify organizational predictors of compliance and provide practical recommendations to strengthen SCT safety implementation and reduce preventable athlete harm.
Microbusiness Owner-Managers And Financial Planning: A Transtheoretical Model Of Behaviour Change Approach, Christopher L. Gorman
Microbusiness Owner-Managers And Financial Planning: A Transtheoretical Model Of Behaviour Change Approach, Christopher L. Gorman
Annual DBA Scholars Conference
The practitioner-scholar proposes a cross-sectional study to investigate how microbusiness owner-managers adopt financial planning behaviour through the lens of the Transtheoretical Model of Behaviour Change (TTM). The study will examine the TTM’s stages of change and the factors that influence these owner-managers’ decisions to engage in financial planning. By applying a behaviour change framework to an underexplored area of financial planning research, the study will aim to identify barriers and opportunities to microbusiness owners’ adoption of financial planning. The findings will inform strategies CFP® professionals can use to enhance client engagement, communication, and decision-making among microbusiness owner-managers.

Harassment Risks, Reporting Decisions And Institutional Responses During Hospitality Internships In Ghana, Ebenezer Junior Afful, Yaa Akubia
ICHRIE Research Reports
Hospitality internships can expose students to sexual harassment while leaving them uncertain whether reporting will bring protection or further risk. This study examined exposure, reporting decisions and perceived institutional response among hospitality students in Ghana. It combined a survey of 277 students from three technical universities with follow-up interviews involving 13 participants. Among valid responses, 27.0% reported personally experiencing harassment, while 30.4% reported witnessing it during placement. Only 43.2% of personal incidents and 38.3% of witnessed incidents were reported. Interviews showed that silence was shaped by normalised conduct, customer-service expectations, supervisory power, fear of consequences, unclear reporting routes, and distrust …
Using Status Characteristics Theory To Predict A Jury Foreperson, Mohona Mandal, Shane Thye
Using Status Characteristics Theory To Predict A Jury Foreperson, Mohona Mandal, Shane Thye
Feminist Pedagogy
The topic of social inequality as it relates to status structures is a foundational topic taught in many courses in contemporary sociology. Today the theory of status characteristics and expectation states (SCT) is the predominant account of the causes and effects of status stratification in groups. The purpose of this paper is to share a classroom exercise that explicates the connections between SCT and critical theory, specifically intersectionality as an analytic framework. Using only the basic theoretical assumptions, students apply the underlying logic of SCT to predict who was selected as the jury foreperson based on brief biographies of each …
