Forecasting Annual Capture Fisheries Production In Somalia Using Arima Models, Mohiadin Ahmed Mohamed, Dhaqane Rooble Halane, Hassan Omar Sabrie
Forecasting Annual Capture Fisheries Production In Somalia Using Arima Models, Mohiadin Ahmed Mohamed, Dhaqane Rooble Halane, Hassan Omar Sabrie
Journal of Ocean and Coastal Economics
The study aims to forecast the production of Somalia's capture fisheries for the five years that follow, from 2024 to 2028, using the Box-Jenkins method and employing in-sample data spanning 50 years, from 1974 to 2023. Among the alternative models, ARIMA (1,1,1) was determined by the study to be the most suitable. The study obtained the data from World Bank development indicators (WDI) for the period between 1975 and 2023. According to the prediction's findings, the nation's capture fishing output will drop by roughly 1475 metric tons over the course of the following five years. The model was found to …

Mapping The Association Of College And Research Libraries Framework To Baylor’S Four Cs Of General Education, Ellen Hampton Filgo
Mapping The Association Of College And Research Libraries Framework To Baylor’S Four Cs Of General Education, Ellen Hampton Filgo
The Christian Librarian
As institutions increasingly seek to articulate the value of information literacy within broader educational missions, academic libraries are challenged to align instructional practice with institutional learning goals. This article explores that alignment by placing the Association of College and Research Libraries Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education in conversation with Baylor University’s general education outcomes, known as the Four Cs. Through an interpretive mapping of the Framework’s threshold concepts to the Four Cs, the study reveals how information literacy supports multiple dimensions of undergraduate learning, including communication, critical thinking, civic engagement, and Christian perspective. The analysis demonstrates that Baylor’s …

Higher Learning Research Communications
Social media has become an increasingly prominent platform for information dissemination among university students. This exploratory qualitative study explored Malaysian and Thai communication university students’ perspectives on the importance of social media and students’ role in learning about sustainability communication. A face-to-face focus group discussion (FGD) was conducted with 18 seniors who were majoring in communication at the School of Communication of Universiti Sains Malaysia and the faculty of Communication Arts of Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. The results showed that most respondents understood the concept of sustainability communication and its importance to the sustainable development goals (SDGs). Respondents also discussed the …

The Life Of A Showgirl As A Cultural Artifact: What's Hidden By The Lipstick And Lace?, Crystal F. Haryanto
The Life Of A Showgirl As A Cultural Artifact: What's Hidden By The Lipstick And Lace?, Crystal F. Haryanto
Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy
This paper develops a collage-based framework to holistically assess Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated first release after the Eras Tour concluded. The Life of a Showgirl, with sparkling promotional materials leading up to its October 2025 drop and polarizing critical reception following it, represents an entertainer’s lifestyle while still concealing what was alluded to behind the Eras Tour curtain. Rather than engage in a direct response to Showgirl, I critically evaluate positive and negative commentary from listeners regarding the album, and I thematically analyze lyrical concepts throughout Swift’s discography to contextualize Showgirl within the arc of her work. I …

Recovering A Gem: Melva L. Price, A New York City Teacher, Emmanuelle St. Jean
Occasional Paper Series
The paucity of research on the experiences of Black women teachers in integrated New York City schools underscores the need for further investigation. Studying Black women teachers in integrated school settings opens the door for reshaping the traditional framings of Black women teachers as revolutionary individuals who largely taught and transformed the learning experiences of Black children. This article focuses on Melva Price, a Latin language teacher at a New York City high school. Price became a teacher during a period of intense marginalization and oppression. Her journey to becoming a teacher, her pedagogical practices, and her experiences as a …

(Re)Membering The Work Of Septima Clark Amid The Gift Of Chaos, Terrance J. Lewis, Alex Chisholm, Kristen E. Duncan
Occasional Paper Series
The current state of American society and the future of its democracy have caused many Americans to develop feelings of hopelessness, especially pertaining to education. In the spirit of Sankofa and using Dillard’s (2021) Spirit of Our Work, we (re)member the work of Septima Clark to seek what can be learned and applied during this period of societal unease and educational uncertainty. By (re)membering Septima Clark, we provide recommendations for thought practice that formal K-12 and community educators might consider as we navigate educational spaces amid an open and direct period of intellectual warfare.

Freedom Is Taught Here: Freedom Schools And The Radical Tradition Of Intergenerational Community Learning In Black Education, Trayc D. Freeman, Wintre F. Johnson, Tiffany D. Meadows, Christine Onyinyechi-Uju Emuka, Naila A. Smith
Occasional Paper Series
The Black American community has always understood the power of literacy and education, and the importance of Black self-sufficiency to attain these. The establishment of Freedom Schools during the 1964 Freedom Summer in Mississippi is an actualization of that understanding. Since 1995, the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF) has carried on the work and legacy, with Freedom Schools still taking place all over the United States. For two summers, we, researchers from the University of Virginia, have had the opportunity to partner with a CDF Freedom School as part of a mixed-method research study. This essay serves as a reflection and …

Sanctuaries Of Resistance: The Prophetic Black Church As Fugitive Education, Charles E. Becknell Jr.
Occasional Paper Series
This paper examines the Prophetic Black Church as a living site of education within the ongoing struggle against historical erasure. It shows how sermons, testimonies, and rituals function as teaching practices that preserve cultural memory and build critical awareness. Using pastoral autoethnography, the study interprets everyday acts of worship and community life as forms of learning that join faith with freedom. Through a narrative case study and theological reflection, the paper highlights how grandmothers, elders, and youth act as “freedom teachers,” sustaining Black learning amid surveillance and exclusion. Drawing on endarkened feminist praxis and fugitive pedagogy, the analysis reimagines the …

College Students’ And Teachers’ Biases Regarding School Children Based On Appearance, Sex, And Clothing, Lauren K. Decoste, Terry F. Pettijohn Ii
Journal of Educational Research and Practice
This research explored how appearance, sex, and clothing differences influence adults’ perceptions of primary school students across two studies. Male students were predicted to be rated higher in academic ability, behavior, and likeability compared to female students, while formally dressed students were expected to receive more favorable ratings than informally dressed students. Study 1 included college students (N = 160), and Study 2 included employed teachers (N = 112). Participants rated formally and informally dressed male and female students on perceived behavioral, academic, and social skills, likeability, and engagement. Results showed that model sex influenced several perceptions, with male students …

A Mediterranean Puzzle: Paternity Leave Divergence In Italy And Spain, Ricardo Camacho
A Mediterranean Puzzle: Paternity Leave Divergence In Italy And Spain, Ricardo Camacho
Claremont-UC Undergraduate Research Conference on the European Union
In 2019, the European Union (EU) adopted legislation establishing the right to paternity leave for fathers and second parents, advancing the equitable distribution of caregiving responsibilities and gender equality in labor markets. This paper examines why Italy and Spain—two Southern European Member States with shared historical, cultural, and religious legacies—have diverged significantly in their paternity leave entitlements: Spain offers nineteen weeks of full-paid paternity leave, while Italy provides just two. This paper finds that Spain’s more expansive paternity leave policy reflects higher levels of descriptive representation, effective interest group dynamics, and positive policy framing, with institutional design and cultural norms …

Best For Denmark: Monetary Sovereignty And Nationhood In Denmark’S Campaign For Euro Membership, 1999-2000, Maria S. Cheng
Claremont-UC Undergraduate Research Conference on the European Union
This mixed-methods, analytical-empirical paper traces the development of the 2000 Danish euro referendum. Despite its long-term fixed exchange rate, Denmark opted out of Economic and Monetary Union in 1993 and rejected euro membership in 2000 through a series of national referenda. This apparent contradiction raises the question of how political elites of the time framed the preservation of a national currency constrained by its choice of monetary regime. I argue that, as they grappled with the nascent euro’s uncertainties, the Social Democrat government sought to redefine Danish sovereignty from that of isolationism to a concept only realized through European regionalism. …
Explaining Divergent Healthcare Entitlements For Undocumented Migrants: A Comparative Analysis Of Spain And Denmark, Jimin Jeong
Explaining Divergent Healthcare Entitlements For Undocumented Migrants: A Comparative Analysis Of Spain And Denmark, Jimin Jeong
Claremont-UC Undergraduate Research Conference on the European Union
This paper examines the puzzling divergence in healthcare entitlements for undocumented migrants in Spain and Denmark. Despite being a wealthy social democratic welfare state, Denmark restricts undocumented migrants to emergency-only care. Spain, a Mediterranean welfare state with fewer resources and a larger undocumented population, extends universal access to healthcare. This paper evaluates six theoretical explanations from the social policy scholarship to explore why Spain has adopted more generous healthcare entitlements for undocumented migrants than Denmark. The findings suggest that three mechanisms play the most significant role in explaining these differences: party configuration, elite framing, and the strength of interest group …
Converging, But Not Together: Regional Growth After Eu Enlargement, Armine Kardashyan
Converging, But Not Together: Regional Growth After Eu Enlargement, Armine Kardashyan
Claremont-UC Undergraduate Research Conference on the European Union
Using annual NUTS-3 data for eleven Central and Eastern European member states from 2000 to 2023, this paper studies whether regional catch-up after EU enlargement reflects absolute or conditional convergence. I estimate rolling ten-year convergence regressions within a steady-state framework in which regional GDP per capita depends on investment, human capital, and EU exposure. The results show strong conditional convergence during the early and middle phases of enlargement: Regions above their predicted steady states grow more slowly, consistent with adjustment toward heterogeneous long-run targets. This relationship weakens over time and becomes statistically indistinguishable from zero in later windows. Absolute convergence …
The Rise Of Right-Wing Extremism Among Eastern Germany’S Youth: A Study Of Political Socialization In Germany’S Neue Bundesländer, Tim Luebbert
Claremont-UC Undergraduate Research Conference on the European Union
Eastern Germany has seen a pronounced rise in support for right-wing extremist actors among young people aged 15 to 25, raising concerns about long-term democratic resilience. This study examines why youth in eastern Germany are disproportionately receptive to far-right ideology and how attitudes are shaped by political socialization, regional identity, and gendered demographic dynamics. It combines a literature review with original survey data from a questionnaire administered in January 2026 to high school students in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The findings suggest that far-right youth radicalization in eastern Germany cannot be explained solely by cultural backlash trends observed in other western democracies. Instead, …
Slow Violence In French Polynesia: Where The Cold War Got Hot, Gillian G. Maynard
Slow Violence In French Polynesia: Where The Cold War Got Hot, Gillian G. Maynard
Claremont-UC Undergraduate Research Conference on the European Union
Between 1966 and 1996, France conducted a series of atmospheric and underground nuclear tests on the atolls of Mururoa and Fangataufa, exposing Polynesian communities to radioactive fallout. The paper seeks to illustrate how France’s nuclear testing program in French Polynesia produced gendered and slow forms of violence extending long after the cessation of testing. Combining environmental history, feminist political ecology, and the analysis of declassified government documents, the paper traces how radioactive contamination entered food systems, damaged reef geology, and generated intergenerational health burdens. The paper additionally examines the gendered impacts of radiation exposure, arguing that Polynesian women experienced a …

The Price Of Open: Understanding Article Processing Charges And Nsu's Cost-Saving Agreements, Keri Baker
Staff Presentations, Proceedings, Lectures, and Symposia
Open access publishing can raise your work's visibility and impact — but it often comes with a price tag in the form of Article Processing Charges (APCs) that can run into the thousands of dollars. This session, designed for NSU faculty, unpacks the true cost of “open” and shows you how to avoid paying it. We'll cover the Scholarly Communications services available through the Alvin Sherman Library, walk through the major open access models (Gold, Green, Diamond, Hybrid) and how their costs differ, and — most importantly — detail the transformative “Read and Publish” agreements NSU currently holds with publishers …
From Linguistic Domination To Counter-Power: The Weaponisation And Reappropriation Of Language In Shakespeare's Drama, Md. Abu Bakkar
From Linguistic Domination To Counter-Power: The Weaponisation And Reappropriation Of Language In Shakespeare's Drama, Md. Abu Bakkar
Journal of Language, Literature, and Arts
Studies of language and power in Shakespeare usually treat colonial, psychological, political, and familial domination as separate problems belonging to separate plays. This article asks what happens when the target of linguistic domination takes up, repeats, or withholds the discourse through which domination is exercised. It proposes linguistic counter-power as a comparative analytical concept: a change in who can define, command, or be believed within the dramatic world that outlasts and exceeds the speaker’s own act of resistance. The concept is distinguished from discursive resistance, linguistic agency, counter-discourse, and resignification, and is operationalised through three tests: uptake, durability, and structural …

Propuesta Metodológica Para La Evaluación De La Pobreza Energética En Chiapas, México, Mario Alejandro Sánchez Trujillo, Pascual López De Paz, Marcelino García Benítez, Amina El Mekaoui, Bassam Alí
Journal of Maya Heritage
“I’M A Biracial Person Who Looks White In A Black Man’S Rap Game”: Exploring Expressions Of Multiracialized Masculine Vulnerability In Logic’S “Everybody”, Matthew Oware
Sociology and Anthropology Faculty Publications
The field of Black vulnerability studies includes analyses of Black men rap artists’ sexual debut, romantic relationships, mental stress, self-medication, and suicidal thoughts. I expand this analysis to Black-white mixed-race men who express emotional vulnerability regarding their racial identities. Using a case study of the song “Everybody” by Logic—a Black and white, mixed-race man—I find that Logic expresses joy and pride in his Black and biracial identity. Similarly, I observe that he expresses anger and frustration toward those who question, dismiss, or degrade his Black and biracial identities, a pattern paralleled in research on multiracial individuals. By analyzing his radio …

Constructing The Cyber Workforce Gap: Measurement And Its Consequences, Ryan Straight
Constructing The Cyber Workforce Gap: Measurement And Its Consequences, Ryan Straight
Journal of Cybersecurity Education, Research and Practice
Cyber workforce-gap figures steer federal strategy, industry advocacy, and the growth of educational programs. Rather than estimating the U.S. gap, this review examines how the estimates are made: through job-posting analytics, survey-based estimation, and federal accounting, each of which must assume its way from instrument to labor market. A census of this journal's complete run illustrates what those figures underwrite in one venue: of 176 items published across eleven years, 51 invoke a labor-market workforce claim, 46 treat it as settled fact, and only one, an editorial, interrogates it. Meanwhile, the producers and auditors of those figures have diverged. Between …

Leading The Way: Dsws In Organizational And Social Work Leadership, Lisa A. Street, Rebecca S. Beeler
Journal for Social Work Scholar-Practitioners
Social workers are often overlooked for positions in organizational leadership. Although social workers dominate the workforce in many human services organizations, leadership positions are commonly held by those with general management or other degrees. The lack of educational preparation and formal training in leadership and a lack of leadership presence in the field have been deemed a social work leadership crisis. Yet, social workers possess unique skillsets that can translate well into strong organizational leadership—if properly cultivated, promoted, and pursued. With the resurgence of the Doctor of Social Work (DSW) degree, now is a prime opportunity for more social workers …
