An Economic Program For The League Of Nations Designed To Prevent World-Wide Economic Depressions, William A. Platz May 1931

An Economic Program For The League Of Nations Designed To Prevent World-Wide Economic Depressions, William A. Platz

Bachelors’ Theses

This thesis represents an effort to discover a way for the nations of the world to cooperate in the prevention of economic depression. The author has studied the League of Nations with the purpose of finding out what it can do in the promotion of such cooperation and has discovered organic weaknesses which seem to him to bar effective action by the League as it is now organized. He has recommended in the final chapter the organization of two new conferences, one representing commerce and industry and the other representing finance, which he considers essential to a workable program of …

The Care Of The Illegitimate Child In Milwaukee, Clare A. Sexton May 1931

The Care Of The Illegitimate Child In Milwaukee, Clare A. Sexton

Bachelors’ Theses

The one vital f act that is really the greatest concern of society regarding illegitimacy, is the illegitimate child; a child that is fashioned the same as the rest of us; that bears no mark of nature's ill favor; that develops according to all the biological and psychological laws that control humanity in general, giving no more and no less response to ill treatment; reacting viciously only according to the same causes that operate in general. A society that does not properly care for this individual, born or unborn, callously sins against its own moral and physical welfare.

Are Animals Intelligent?, Francis D. Kelly May 1931

Are Animals Intelligent?, Francis D. Kelly

Bachelors’ Theses

The radicalism or modern psychology presents a complex labyrinth to the average mind. An amateur investigator who desires information about animal psychology is confronted with ten or twelve schools of thought, each one of which sets forth bevy of theories tending either to deny or affirm the power of reasoning in animals. An elimination process, however, will disclose in the main two opposing doctrines, Behaviorism and Evolution, and Scholastic ism. The Behaviorits are interest din lowering the human to the brute and the Evolutionists are concerned with the elevation of the brute to the status of the human. Hence, these …

The Several Theories Of Modern Scenic Design, Noel Richard Seim May 1931

The Several Theories Of Modern Scenic Design, Noel Richard Seim

Bachelors’ Theses

The object of this paper is to give the various phases of the trend of modern Scenic Design. I say phases because each unit treated is merely another aspect of the one major movement, Abstraction. Consequently it is impossible to make any definite division. Moreover, every theatrical production is always carried out in several of these theories; no artist holds to one.

Also it ls necessary to state that only the theoretical side has been treated. To consider the technical and the mechanical methods would bring this paper beyond its purpose. We are interested not in how the artist works …

The Influence Of Business Upon Country Newspapers, Robert J. Burt May 1931

The Influence Of Business Upon Country Newspapers, Robert J. Burt

Bachelors’ Theses

This thesis is intended to point out the effect which business conditions have exerted upon the typical country weekly newspaper.in point of editorial policy, treatment of the news, and the handling of advertising. Particular emphasis is laid on the effects of the current business depression, although some of the practices enumerated are undoubtedly of long standing and have no direct connection with present conditions.

Although some of the points to be discussed are to be classified among the faults of newspapers, this is not intended as a wholesale condemnation of the country news paper. In editorial optimism and overdisplay of …

Debate Strategy, Hugo E. Hellman May 1931

Debate Strategy, Hugo E. Hellman

Bachelors’ Theses

This work is the outgrowth of two years of debating activity at Marquette University. Very early in his career as a debater the writer realized that the subject treated in these pages is one which has received little attention from the numerous writers on the subject of debate. A perusal of most of these in preparation for this writing served to make this realization a conviction. The possessor of such a conviction, as the writer of a Bachelor's Thesis realizes that his position is somewhat unique and not exactly a happy one, for he invades a field as old as …

Selected Case Studies In The Right Of Privacy, Cedric J. Voglewede Apr 1931

Selected Case Studies In The Right Of Privacy, Cedric J. Voglewede

Bachelors’ Theses

The purpose of this thesis is to discover how far and in what particular way the right of privacy of an individual is recognized by law, in decisions, common law and statute.

This is done with a view to finding the principles upon which the right of privacy is now based, so that a proper interpretation of the present situation will result in a better understanding of the rules which must be considered by newspapers and other publications in regard to this right of the individual, and to estimate the probable course of the development of the law pertaining to …
