Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: A Disease Made Invisible By Stereotypes, Isabella Tober Sep 2026

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: A Disease Made Invisible By Stereotypes, Isabella Tober

Undergraduate Research Symposium

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a very complex disease that is often overshadowed by public opinion. Stereotypes within modern-day media have turned this disease into a social joke, leading individuals to suffer in silence and isolate in fear of judgment. Historically, society has allowed this invisibility to be placed upon the disease, but so has the medical industry through misdiagnosis and inaccurate treatment. The reality of OCD is very real and impactful for those living with this condition. Through proper education and exposure to the truth behind OCD, negative discourse will turn positive, ultimately allowing people to feel visible and seek proper …

Dynamic Forecasting Of Sovereign Wealth Fund Effects On State-Owned Firm Stocks Using Hybrid Arima–Garch Models, Ananta Hagabean Nasution, Teguh Yudo Wicaksono, Donny Oktavian Syah, Randhy Nugroho Sep 2026

Dynamic Forecasting Of Sovereign Wealth Fund Effects On State-Owned Firm Stocks Using Hybrid Arima–Garch Models, Ananta Hagabean Nasution, Teguh Yudo Wicaksono, Donny Oktavian Syah, Randhy Nugroho

BISNIS & BIROKRASI: Jurnal Ilmu Administrasi dan Organisasi

This study examines the forecasting dynamics of Indonesia's Sovereign Wealth Fund, DANANTARA, on the BUMN-20 Index using a hybrid ARIMA-GARCH model. The establishment of DANANTARA in February 2025 generated mixed reactions among capital market participants, with the Indonesian Stock Exchange suspended trading after share prices declined by more than five percent. Using daily time-series data from June 2018 to August 2026, this study employs a hybrid ARIMA(1,1,3)-GARCH(1,1) framework processed through E-Views 12. The results indicate that the BUMN-20 Index is predominantly driven by broader market movements, as evidenced by the highly significant IHSG return coefficient (β =1.237, p < 0.001). In the mean equation, the DANANTARA announcement and launch events do not produce statistically significant shifts in average returns. However, in the variance equation, the announcement significantly elevated conditional volatility (γ = 0.025, p = 0.009), suggesting heightened market uncertainty. The volatility persistence measure (α + β = 0.952) indicates that shocks to the BUMN-20 Index decay slowly, with a half-life of approximately 14 trading days. The forecasting results suggest a gradually declining trajectory for the index, though this does not imply a causal relationship with DANANTARA. These findings contribute to the literature by demonstrating that the primary channel through which a nascent SWF affects domestic equity markets is volatility rather than returns. The policy implications highlight the importance of for transparent governance and consistent communication in mitigating market uncertainty surrounding DANANTARA's operations.

Youth Participation In Kediri, Indonesia: An Urban Communication Perspective, Nissa C. Adinia, Budi Guntoro, Roso Witjaksono

JURNAL KOMUNIKASI INDONESIA

This article examines how young people in a mid-sized Indonesian city participate in producing the meaning of urban space, and how far a participatory communication intervention succeeds in opening dialogue with city stakeholders. Urban communication scholarship has developed primarily around metropolitan cities in the Global North, while participatory communication research often assumes that facilitated dialogue leads to empowerment. This article addresses both gaps through a Photovoice study conducted in Kediri, East Java, involving 37 young people from three social typologies: pelajar (students), santri (Islamic boarding school-affiliated youth), and pekerja/wirausaha (young workers and entrepreneurs). Drawing on Lefebvre’s spatial triad and Couldry’s …

Strengthening The Philippines' Agri-Fishery Rde System: A Case Study Of A Public Coordinating Agency As A Bridging Organization, Cynthia Remedios V. De Guia, Luis Rey I. Velasco, Maria Faina L. Diola

Journal of Public Affairs and Development

The Philippine agricultural research, development, and extension (RDE) system has long struggled to live up to its ideals. Decades after the passage of the Agriculture and Fishery Modernization Act (AFMA), the RDE system was reported to have failed to innovate, largely because it failed to translate research into development outcomes. This has resulted from persistent gaps in knowledge exchange, institutional linkages, and collaboration among system actors. In fragmented systems, meaningful interaction and trust seldom emerge spontaneously, making bridging mechanisms necessary. Bridging organizations (BOs) play this role by connecting multiple and diverse actors, mediating relationships, enabling knowledge flows, and enhancing capacities …

The Algorithmic Narcissus: Ai Validation And The Atrophy Of The 'Athletic' Social Self, Ilham Phalosa Reswara, Anggi Mayangsari

Jurnal Psikologi Sosial

Artificial intelligence systems designed around continuous affirmation and minimal friction are becoming increasingly prominent as social and relational partners in everyday life. This article examines how sustained interaction with such frictionless AI systems may reshape the developmental conditions under which social selfhood forms and is maintained. Drawing on Cooley's (1902) looking glass self, Kohut's (1971) concept of optimal frustration, and the developmental literature on social competence, the article argues that frictionless AI may distort the social mirror through which identity forms, remove the manageable frustration that appears necessary for psychological growth, weaken empathic capacity, and erode the social stakes that …

Living Between Lines: A Conceptual Paper For An Empirical Study Exploring The Impact Of Gendered Racial Socialization On Black Women In Emerging Adulthood, Danielle C. Hickman

Journal of Research Initiatives

Abstract

Black women in emerging adulthood (ages 18–29) navigate the intersection of racial and gender socialization processes that are largely absent from mainstream developmental and psychological research. Existing scholarship often examines race and gender separately, thereby overlooking the compounded psychological effects experienced by Black emerging adult women (BEAW) as they negotiate cultural scripts such as the Strong Black Woman and Angry Black Woman. This conceptual paper outlines a research framework for an empirical study examining the relationship between gendered-racial socialization and psychological well-being among BEAW, and the extent to which cultural scripts moderate this relationship. Grounded in an integrated theoretical …

The Use Of English Conjunctions By Saudi Efl Learners And The Influence Of Proficiency Level, Ahmed Alhassani

University of Tabuk Journal for Humanities and Social Sciences

Despite a substantial body of research on the use of conjunctions by EFL learners, the existing literature is not exhaustive. Previous studies have indicated that non-native English speakers, specifically Saudi EFL students, encounter considerable difficulties with the effective use of conjunctions, presenting a significant impediment to their writing proficiency. Consequently, pedagogical approaches and teaching methods targeting conjunctions have been integrated into educational materials and academic writing curricula. Nevertheless, the persistence of this issue necessitates further investigation utilizing contemporary research methodologies and current updated writing standards. To address this gap, this study explored the use of conjunctions in a 205,040-word corpus …
