The Anchor, Volume 37.55: May 3, 1928, Hope College

The Anchor: 1928

The Anchor began in 1887 and was first issued weekly in 1914. Covering national and campus news alike, Hope College’s student-run newspaper has grown over the years to encompass over two-dozen editors, reporters, and staff. For much of The Anchor's history, the latest issue was distributed across campus each Wednesday throughout the academic school year (with few exceptions). In recent years The Anchor moved to monthly print issues and a more frequently updated website. The Anchor is now published in print twice per academic semester. Occasionally, the volume and/or issue numbering is irregular.

Requirements For A Social Worker, Ruth E. Smith Jun 1927

Requirements For A Social Worker, Ruth E. Smith

Bachelors’ Theses

Entering upon a discussion of the requirements for Social Worker it might he well to have some clear and definite notions as to the meaning of Social Work. "The affair of social welfare is not a delimited field, like medicine or law for example, and it cannot safely be left to any specialized group of "professional experts", the body of knowledge about social relations and about the effects of the methods which have been tried for dealing with social problems and improving social conditions is by no means so authoritative or so comprehensive that such a procedure is wise.

Aims And Methods Of Teaching Citizenship, Agnes Hart

Bachelors’ Theses

Democracy may be defined as the collective action of the whole body of citizens to advance the general welfare. In order to secure this cooperative activity, it is necessary to motivate the individuals so that they will work in cooperation for the common good. This mass organization, however, should not lose sight of the individual who should be given the opportunity to work out his own ends in the community.

The Negro In Oberlin, Mildred Fairchild Jan 1925

The Negro In Oberlin, Mildred Fairchild

Honors Papers

In every library of any standing there exists today and since the days of abolitionism a vast number of books and pamphlets dealing with the negro in America. Some treat of his virtues, some of his faults; some are sentimental, some harsh; nearly all discuss him as a race With emphasis on racial characteristics and racial possibilities. Only recently has the scientific spirit invaded the field sufficiently to reveal the possibility of honest progress through the specific study of concrete situations. As I write there lies on my table the March issue of the Survey Graphic devoted to "Harlem! Mecca …
