The Midwest Quarterly: A Journal of Contemporary Thought

in this issue. . .

THE MIDWEST QUARTERLY regretfully announces the resignation from its editorial board of Professor ROBERT BLUNK, whose increasing responsibilities as a teacher in the Art Department of Kansas State College, a consultant on numerous art projects, a member of the Kansas Cultural Arts Commission, and a practicing artist have left him, as he feels, with too little time for editorial duties which are growing increasingly heavy themselves. His successor has not yet been discovered.

THIS is our Minorities Issue, as anticipated in the "looking forward" pages of our October 1970 number, and very properly half our …

The Influence Of Adult Education Classes In Foods And Nutrition On Food Selection By Senior Citizens, Marguerite Collins Massey Jan 1964

The Influence Of Adult Education Classes In Foods And Nutrition On Food Selection By Senior Citizens, Marguerite Collins Massey

Theses, Dissertations and Capstones

Today there are seventeen and a half million people age 65 or over in the United States. This is nearly one-tenth of our population, and the number is estimated to be increasing by one thousand daily. There are already twenty-five million people age 60 or over, six million age 75 and over, and more than ten thousand over the age of 100. With increased study and research on various factors in the aging process and how they affect the health of elderly people, these figures may go even higher.

In the August Twentieth issue of Life Magazine an article appeared entitled, “Why Ministers Are Breaking Down.”1 Three months later, the Christian Century answered this article in Life with “Are Ministers Cracking Up?”2 The conclusions of these two articles were in disagreement. However, they were alike in that they were based upon personal observations of a few cases and not upon careful study. Since then other periodicals have carried like articles written in like style.3 A casual examination of the books on a minister’s personal problems in the library of any theological seminary will manifest the same …

Are Long-Term Hospitalized Geriatric Patients Abandoned By Their Families?, Thea Karola Froehlich

University of the Pacific Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study is twofold: first, to find out to what extent and for what reasons contacts with relatives have been exhausted for long-term geriatric patients in public institutions, and second, whether there is a significant difference in family contacts for the State Hospital patient as compared to the County Hospital patient. Are the reasons for changes in the family contacts basically social-psychological, medical, or economic.

Such a study of family interaction requires an investigation of (a) living arrangements, family relationships, and socio-economic background prior to the hospitalization; (b) the reasons for hospitalization and the present medical diagnosis; …
