Geography: De Facto Or De Jure, F. Lukermann
Journal of the Minnesota Academy of Science
ABSTRACT-The acceptance of the Kantian classification of geography among the sciences as the science of space carries with it certain methodological obligations. Geographers who advocate a macroscopic approach to research are especially bound by Kantian strictures to employ mechanistic models of gravity, equilibrium and potential force fields in their studies. The limitations of such functional models in formulating hypotheses and the underlying assumptions these models make in causal explanations are examined in detail. Reference is made to a number of studies in the post-war period, culminating in the programmatic statement for the macroscopic method in geography published by the Geographical …

Dissertations and Theses @ UNI
Today, as perhaps at no time previously, the English department of the American high school has come in for scrutiny and alteration. The most recent convention of Iowa English teachers (April, 1965) found new programs in literature to be "exciting," new approaches to writing "exciting," new developments in advanced classes "exciting". Innovation and renovation are a part of the scene. As many English teachers are beginning to learn, changes in curriculum and in text materials and in approach to the subject are coming so rapidly that no one has had time to assess the changes or to draw any concrete …
The Wasatch Front In 1869: A Geographical Description, Rodney Dale Griffin
The Wasatch Front In 1869: A Geographical Description, Rodney Dale Griffin
Theses and Dissertations
This study is a geographical description of a specific area at a particular point in history. The year 1869 was chosen for the study of the Wasatch Front because it is a datum point; something to work from. Following the completion of the transcontinental railroad at Promontory, Utah, on May 10, 1869, the typically Mormon society at the Wasatch Front oasis began to be more rapidly integrated to the cultural and economic influences from the East. A geographic study of this area in 1869 focuses attention on the nature of the Mormon civilization and more fully illuminates the effect of …
