The Historical Dimension Of Science, Doyle Casteel
The Historical Dimension Of Science, Doyle Casteel
Iowa Science Teachers Journal
Modern science is in the process of seeking popular self-consciousness. That its methods are human constructs, that its goals are value-oriented, and that its implications are humanistic in their ultimate effect have tended to become the boundaries within which the scientist views his work.

A New Look At Teaching Keys, Phillip Grant
A New Look At Teaching Keys, Phillip Grant
Iowa Science Teachers Journal
Teaching taxonomy, classification, and keys to students is sometimes a slow and fruitless process. It seems that there is a fear and dislike of the whole idea of taxonomy among beginning students. I feel this is largely due to the fact that they are pushed into the system of classification and the use of keys without really understanding them.
Growing Fern Gametophytes For Laboratory Use, Daryl D. Smith
Growing Fern Gametophytes For Laboratory Use, Daryl D. Smith
Iowa Science Teachers Journal
The life cycle of a fern is often studied in biology laboratories to illustrate the intermediate form between the dominant gametophyte of the bryophytes and the free-living sporophyte of seed plants. The availability of the gametophyte stage of ferns is often limited, making it necessary to produce fern prothallia by some artificial method.

A Comparison Of Methods Of Interpolation, Don Barry
A Comparison Of Methods Of Interpolation, Don Barry
Iowa Science Teachers Journal
The original project consisted of refining a new method for square root determination so that a simple, accurate, Barry and single-step method would exist. Naturally, it was hoped that such an examination of the method would lead to other discoveries concerning square roots. Merely for the sake of challenge, it was decided to use as simple mathematics as possible. Eventually, the author was able to develop an equation, not merely a method, for square root determination. However, a proof of this equation has not been discovered.

Assistants In High School Science, Henry Leroy Becker, Mary Elizabeth Sievert
Iowa Science Teachers Journal
The modern science programs of today have created increased emphasis upon the laboratory situation. With this increased emphasis on laboratory work, the science teacher must spend many hours preparing for laboratory experiences which will meet the needs of the students enrolled in today's and tomorrow's science courses. In order to meet these needs, what alternatives are available to the science teacher in preparation for a laboratory situation?

Some Concepts Of Earth Science For Junior High, Patricia M. Schwirian
Some Concepts Of Earth Science For Junior High, Patricia M. Schwirian
Iowa Science Teachers Journal
The junior high school has been-and still is-the weakest link in the chain of science education. More interest in science is lost during these two or three years than any other period of a child's education. This is grossly unfortunate because children in this age group have the imagination, enthusiasm, and level of maturity which allows them to profit greatly from the excitement and challenge offered in a good science curriculum.

Iowa Science Teachers Journal
For Science and Children to serve the elementary teacher, principal, and administrator effectively, it must reflect the needs, activities, and developments of the expanding elementary science curriculum. This can be achieved best when the material presented in the journal comes directly from its readers.
