Some Criteria For Open Evaluation, John T. Wilson Jan 1973

Some Criteria For Open Evaluation, John T. Wilson

Iowa Science Teachers Journal

Most teachers have felt a faster heart beat at one time or another when their principal enters the room to "observe them teach." Both know that an evaluation report will soon be written and distributed to the district office, eventually finding its way to the board of education. The report may even affect the employment status of the teacher. The reaction of the teacher would seem to indicate "mistrust" of the evaluation. In fact, since 1965, there has been a growing mistrust of evaluation. Why? Specifically, why do teachers mistrust evaluation to the degree that they avoid it in their …

First and second gears were not run as it was necessary to limit the pull in third gear to avoid excessive slippage. Fourth, tenth, eleventh, twelfth, thirteenth, fourteenth , fifteenth and sixteenth gears were not run as test procedure requires only six travel speeds. During maximum drawbar run in 3rd gear the transmission came out of gear twice making it necessary to hold the shift lever in place to complete the run.

An Experimental Study Of The Effectiveness Of The Developmental Mathematics Course At Lehigh County Community College, Robert G. Clark

Walden Dissertations and Doctoral Studies

The primary purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the Developmental Mathematics program at the Lehigh county Community College. There was no positive evidence that the existing method of selecting students and/or the material content of the course was affective in achieving its stated objective; that of bringing the skill and ability of weak students needing remedial treatment up to the minimum level required for probable success in first-year college mathematics. The general hypothesis posed was that the students who took the Developmental Mathematics course would perform better in first-year college mathematics than those students whose ACT …

Effects Of Points Exchangeable For Grades On Junior High Mathematics Students, James Edward Perkins Mar 1972

Effects Of Points Exchangeable For Grades On Junior High Mathematics Students, James Edward Perkins

Master of Education Theses

This paper presents the effects of a token system used in a regular eighth grade mathematics class. Two classes containing 21 and 23 students were implemented. The study was designed to increase attendance, behavior, and mathematical achievement in a test group and measure the effects against a control group. The scores revealed a significant difference only in attendance favoring the test group.

Recommendations included pairing stronger reinforcers with the points used and suggestions for future research.
