Test 1216: International 4568 And 4586 Diesel, Nebraska Tractor Test Lab

Nebraska Tractor Tests

EXPLANATION OF TEST REPORT GENERAL CONDITIONS Each tractor is a production model equipped for common usage. Power consuming accessories may be disconnected only when the means for disconnecting can be reached from the operator station. Additional weight can be added as ballast if the manufacturer regularly supplies it for sale. The static tire loads and the inflation pressures must conform to recommendations in the Tire Standards published by the Society of Automotive Engineers. PREPARATION FOR PERFORMANCE RUNS The engine crankcase is drained and refilled with a measured amount of new oil conforming to specifications in the operator’s manual. The fuel …

International Trade (Lesson #1), Robert G. Fuller Jan 1976

International Trade (Lesson #1), Robert G. Fuller

ADAPT Lessons: Physics

This lesson is intended to provide motivation for the students to appreciate the use of an International System of Units.

The students are divided into small groups, around lab tables. The measuring instruments are provided to each group. Each group is treated as a different “country.” Each country is given a different set of measuring instruments: A ruler is a colored strip of paper marked off in ten divisions. Each country is given a different length for its ruler. A liquid volume measuring cup is a colored plastic cup marked off in ten divisions. Each country has a cup with …

The content of the learning cycle concerns some basic applications of the base two number system.

A Brief Look At Individualized Instruction, James L. Kelly Jan 1976

A Brief Look At Individualized Instruction, James L. Kelly

Iowa Science Teachers Journal

If one examines the terminology that is a part of education today, it becomes evident that the teacher is responsible for more than factual presentations. Accountability, humanism, credibility, and personalization are just a few of the new terms being applied to the teachers working vocabulary. All teachers, including science teachers, are constantly being asked to meet the needs of all their students, not just a selected few. This is especially true now, since nationwide science class enrollments are declining. Individualized instruction is a part of the new terminology and, in a limited amount of space, it is also the topic …

Career Opportunities Await Qualified Students, Gerald H. Krockover

Iowa Science Teachers Journal

Even though we like to equate a college education with a good job, we are finding that while this was once true, it is not true for the graduates of the mid l 970's. In 1973, for example, 18 percent of the graduates of the College of Arts and Sciences at one Big Ten university who did not go on to graduate school were still unemployed six months after graduation and almost as many were working as secretaries, clerks, laborers, factory workers, and janitors. Ten years ago fewer than 500,000 bachelor's degrees were awarded in the United States and there …

Dragonfly Migration Jan 1976

Dragonfly Migration

Iowa Science Teachers Journal

Migration of birds in the spring and fall is a well known phenomenon. However, migration of insects is not as well known except for a few spectacular examples such as that of the Monarch butterfly. Actually, quite a number of insects migrate and one easily observed migrant is the large Green Darner dragonfly (Anax junius).

The Computer In High School Science Instruction, James J. Hungerford, Richard L. Carter

Iowa Science Teachers Journal

Computers appear to have a useful function in futuristic science classrooms. Urquhart states, "computers have a promising future as an instructional tool in biology." The purpose for utilizing computers as supplements to standard educational media is to simulate complex situations or demonstrate complex concepts that would be impractical to duplicate in classrooms due to time consuming computations, expense, or lack of equipment.

Puzzles And Piaget, David Mccalley

Iowa Science Teachers Journal

Personal experience has shown that student learning problems may often be analyzed intuitively and effectively through personal interviews. However, recent work by Anton Lawson and his colleagues at the University of California at Berkeley has produced a more analytical tool, based on Piagetian Reasoning Theory, to help educators understand how students operate men tally. This tool consists of a series of specially designed puzzles, the response to which, gives clues to understanding the functional basis for students' thought processes.

Elementary Science Study And Science Process Skills, James B. Chapman Jan 1976

Elementary Science Study And Science Process Skills, James B. Chapman

Teaching & Learning Theses & Dissertations

The Elementary Science Study (ESS) is a ''hands on" inquiry oriented, science program with the major objective of putting; physical materials into the hands of children and allowing; them to investigate the nature of the physical world. An ESS unit Bulbs and Batteries was tested to find if this and other ESS units of similar structure do in fact develop science process skills. Science process skills may be broken down into the following representative areas: observing, classifying, using time-space relationship, using numbers, measuring, communication, inferring and predicting.

The study was conducted in a middle school approximately 1,000 sixth and …

Evolution Of An Environmental Science College, Ted F. Andrews

University Anniversaries & Historical Documents

Governors State University was established in July, 1969, by the State of Illinois as a free-standing upper division university with a mandate to develop a new model of higher education system. William E. Engbretson, the first and only President of GSU, invited me to join the administrative staff as Dean in September, 1969. I have had the opportunity to participate in planning ail systems of the University during the past six years. As a biologist-ecologist I had had considerable experience In various science curriculum development and science teacher education projects. Hence, I was interested in developing a College of Environmental …

Construction And Implementation Of An Individualized Math Program For Sixth Graders, Lynda Sylvia Hatch Aug 1975

Construction And Implementation Of An Individualized Math Program For Sixth Graders, Lynda Sylvia Hatch

Dissertations and Theses

The sixth grade teachers at Mooberry School in Hillsboro, Oregon were not pleased with the way they were teaching math. The students, grouped by ability, had a poor self-concept about math and felt "locked into" one class.

During the summer of 1973, these teachers considered ways to change their math instruction. Reading was done to determine the most promising practice in math education in the United States. A successful approach to learning appeared to be individualized instruction, as is discussed in this paper. Many different individualized programs were studied, grouped into eleven general categories, and described in detail. The Mooberry …

The Elements Of Mathematics Program: How Can It Be Evaluated?, Marilou Shames Giacofci Jul 1975

The Elements Of Mathematics Program: How Can It Be Evaluated?, Marilou Shames Giacofci

STEMPS Theses & Dissertations

The Central Midwest Educational Research's (CEMREL) Elements of Mathematics Program (EM) for gifted students was piloted in Tidewater for five years. Before deciding whether to continue or expand the program, it was necessary to devise a method of evaluating the program's effectiveness. In the process of this evaluation, two separate comparisons were made:

- a lateral comparison between an experimental and an existing control class over a period of four years, and

- a longitudinal comparison of successive experimental classes over a four year period.

Lateral Study

To insure comparability between the experimental and control classes, both were administered the …

The Effects Of Drill On Addition-Subtraction Fact Learning: With Implication Of Piagetian Reversibility, Ted E. Davidson May 1975

The Effects Of Drill On Addition-Subtraction Fact Learning: With Implication Of Piagetian Reversibility, Ted E. Davidson

All Graduate Theses and Dissertations, Spring 1920 to Summer 2023

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between addition and subtraction as inverse operations, to determine how drill in addition facts will affect knowledge of subtraction facts; to infer, if possible, when addition is conceptualized as an operation with reversibility; and to determine at which grade levels a particular method of drill is effective.

The sample was drawn from Logan, Utah , small, city school district of 3700 students. The experimental groups consisted of 12 elementary and eight secondary existing classrooms of students. The control groups consisted of 10 elementary and five secondary existing classroom groups. A …
