The Immortality Of The Soul, Francis George Ramsden Jun 1927

The Immortality Of The Soul, Francis George Ramsden

Bachelors’ Theses

Throughout these changing centuries since the beginning of the world, and among the ever varying elements of life, there has been one being who has remained essentially the same. Man was created by God and endowed with a body and a soul. Though times and customs have changed and man lives differently now than did those who preceded him, he still possesses these same physical parts, a body and a soul.

On Finding God, Joseph Heinzkill Jun 1927

On Finding God, Joseph Heinzkill

Bachelors’ Theses

A being who is God is absolute in love and beauty and truth, and in the being all faith and hope and love and all beauty and thought begin. Some of the harmony in the being is given to all the universe and is in dawn and in evening, in the winds and rain, in the seasons, in the earth and oceans, in the mines within the earth, in the fields, in woods, in every plant and being that lives, and in beings endowed with mind and will. In this harmony of the universe the soul rises to the being …

Mysticism In The Metaphysical School Of Poets, Jessie Donaldson Corrigan Jun 1927

Mysticism In The Metaphysical School Of Poets, Jessie Donaldson Corrigan

Bachelors’ Theses

In the desire to transcend the physical world, men of every age have set foot upon the "Mystic Way". This desire, which is a thing internal and intuitive, has been called the "instinct for transcendence." Once upon the mystic way, "the wistful eyes of Life are set towards a vision that is also a Home - a Home from which news can reach us now and again".

Evolution Of Japanese Religious Ideas, Yo Kawamura Jun 1927

Evolution Of Japanese Religious Ideas, Yo Kawamura

Graduate Thesis Collection

My purpose in this thesis is to show the development of religious ideas in connection with the social and cultural evolution of the Japanese people and to indicate the place of Christianity in the modern period of Japan's religous history.

The Bearing Of Nationalism Upon The Indian Church, Helen M. Nicholson Jun 1927

The Bearing Of Nationalism Upon The Indian Church, Helen M. Nicholson

Graduate Thesis Collection

There are various conceptions of nationalism, but the one which is incorporated here is that which has to do with a national consciousness, a feeling of unity among those inhabiting the same country. For the most part it is political unity which is meant, though this has been attended by an increasing emphasis upon unity of Indian language, customs, and manners. It must be acknowledged that there is a bond of unity in the historic traditions of the centuries of culture and in the religious myths which are immortalized in the Mahabharata and the Ramayana, but this is hardly sufficient.

The Prophetic Office In Israel, Alfred Ottomar Fuerbringer May 1927

The Prophetic Office In Israel, Alfred Ottomar Fuerbringer

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

My purpose is altogether different, namely, to go through the entire history of God’s chosen people of the Old Covenant as far as it is recorded in the Biblical books, to find out what is told us about the office of a prophet in Israel, and to describe the essence of the office, the man who filled it, and the manner in which he carried out the duties imposed upon him.

The Postexilic History Of The Jews From 538-432 B.C., Herman Julius Meyer May 1927

The Postexilic History Of The Jews From 538-432 B.C., Herman Julius Meyer

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The purpose of this thesis is thus to give a short, chronological account of' the history of' the Jews from 538 B.C. to 432 B.C., based not upon any of the preconceived notions of the "Higher Critics" but upon the Bible, the only infallible account that can give us a true picture of events of this period of the Jews.

Michalangelo And Luther - A Parallel, Oliver Rupprecht May 1927

Michalangelo And Luther - A Parallel, Oliver Rupprecht

Bachelor of Divinity

In the case of Michelangelo and Luther, whose labors extend largely into the same period of time, the parallel becomes doubly attractive. For a comparison of this nature is not dependent on a similarity or an identity of occupation of the persons concerned, unless, of course, the purpose be that of setting forth the success in a single field of human activity and learning. It may aim solely at a delineation of personal characteristics and an evaluation of historical importance, together with a summary description of the man's chief works, without resorting to a detailed presentation of his achievements which, …

The Day Of Atonement, Philip Albrecht May 1927

The Day Of Atonement, Philip Albrecht

Bachelor of Divinity

There was, however, one festival, which clearly and definitely symbolized the Messiah and his work. This was the Day of Atonement. It fore-shadowed the Messiah in many ways, but especially in his office as high-priest, his mediation and atonement by sacrifice. For this reason the Day of Atonement has a greater significance for us than the other festivals of the Old Testament. It has direct prophecies of the Christ who atoned for us.

Die Schiloweissagung Gen. 49 ,8-12, Alfred Ottomar Fuerbringer May 1927

Die Schiloweissagung Gen. 49 ,8-12, Alfred Ottomar Fuerbringer

Bachelor of Divinity

The Shiloh prophecy is a much controversial Pericope. We have been finding different ones for a long time Versions of the same, and in the story the exegesis has no explanation and after all others displaced, but it came to the old ones who still found representatives still adding new ones, so nowadays it's almost half a hundred different explanations, interpretations, Derivatives, and conjectures there. The old, direct-personal interpretation is used by most modern commentators (from those of the twentieth Century almost unanimously). The principles according to the history of religion is rolled it was such a prophecy in the …

The Doctrinal Content Of Isaiah's Prophesy, Fred Kramer May 1927

The Doctrinal Content Of Isaiah's Prophesy, Fred Kramer

Bachelor of Divinity

The purpose of this thesis is to show how much doctrine the Prophesy of Isaiah contains. The result of my studies shows that, with the exception of the doctrine of Baptism, and the Lord's Supper, every important doctrine of the Bible is found more or less complete in this wonderful book. Proof of this statement may be had in the thesis itself.

Criticism Of The Theories Regarding The Epistle To The Ephesians, Herbert Hellbusch May 1927

Criticism Of The Theories Regarding The Epistle To The Ephesians, Herbert Hellbusch

Bachelor of Divinity

In reading the Epistle to the Ephesians one is impressed by its peculiar loftiness and its grandeur in style. Scholars quite generally have accepted it as one of the sublimest and most profound of all the New Testament writings. Dr Salmond says: "In the judgment of many who are well entitled to deliver an opinion, it is the grandest of all the Pauline letters" (l). And Hayes remarks: "This epistle is a work of art. Its sublimity of thought is matched by its beauty of expression" (2). Strong calls this Epistle "the greatest production of inspiration" and adds, "the apostle …

The Reformed Arguments Against The Real Presence Of The Body And Blood Of Christ In The Lord's Supper Examined In The Light Of The Main Modern Philosophical System Since Locke, Walter C. Daib May 1927

The Reformed Arguments Against The Real Presence Of The Body And Blood Of Christ In The Lord's Supper Examined In The Light Of The Main Modern Philosophical System Since Locke, Walter C. Daib

Bachelor of Divinity

It the same line of reasoning were followed out to its bitter consequence, it would leave us without any supernatural facts in religion. But it is by a “happy” inconsistency that the Reformed theologians, at least those of the conservative school, have restricted reason as a norm of doctrine to the narrow sphere or Christology and the Sacraments. It is chiefly here that they have made use of the arguments from possibility and reasonability. It is these arguments from reason that we wish to examine.

A Critique Of Goodspeed's Translation Of The Gospels, Arthur F. Fergin May 1927

A Critique Of Goodspeed's Translation Of The Gospels, Arthur F. Fergin

Bachelor of Divinity

In the execution of this treatise the translation of Goodspeed will be studied on the basis of the original Greek text. The critique will thus seek to establish whether the translation is true to the original. Since no other translation has till now successfully supplanted the Authorized Version, the later will be used in establishing the conclusions reached in this thesis. It is necessary to state at the outset, however, that such a procedure will not in all cases be fair to the translation of Goodspeed. Goodspeed has a better equipment in the way of an authoritative text and grammatical …

Mithraism And Early Christianity, Edward A. Jenne May 1927

Mithraism And Early Christianity, Edward A. Jenne

Bachelor of Divinity

The word Mystery was the name of a religious society, founded not on citizenship or kindred, but on the choice of its members, for the practice of rites by which, it was believed, their happiness might be promoted both in this world and in the next.
