The Approach To The Unchurched, Earl Schmiesing May 1946

The Approach To The Unchurched, Earl Schmiesing

Bachelor of Divinity

If God really sent His Son, Jesus Christ, into the world to be the Savior of all men, then the most pressing and urgent task of every Christian is to bring this message to the entire world. It is a Satanic paradox for the Christian who has accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior to stand idly by while countless millions of souls about him are heedlessly rushing to eternal perdition. The mission of the Christian church rests upon certain facts clearly taught in the Scriptures.

The Attitude Of St Paul Toward Gentiles, Luther W. Meinzen May 1946

The Attitude Of St Paul Toward Gentiles, Luther W. Meinzen

Bachelor of Divinity

The purpose of this thesis is not to trace the history of the Spread of Christianity among the early Gentiles through the instrumentality of Paul – although glimpses of this expansion may be given at intervals for the purpose of orientation and background; the object of this study is rather to sketch the attitude of St. Paul toward Gentiles as such and toward their inclusion in the Church- as far as can be determined from available information.

The Revised Standard Version Of The New Testament, W. Arndt May 1946

The Revised Standard Version Of The New Testament, W. Arndt

Concordia Theological Monthly

This publication comes to us with the legend on the publisher's jacket: "The most important publication in 1946." At first one may be taken aback by such a strong and apparently daring claim, 1946 having only begun; but a little reflection will lead one to say that here we are not dealing with an exaggeration, such as publishing houses are fond of voicing, but with a truly objective evaluation. A new and at that somewhat official translation of the New Testament- what more important work can there appear in this year of grace?

P 46 And Textual Criticism, Elmer Moeller May 1946

P 46 And Textual Criticism, Elmer Moeller

Concordia Theological Monthly

Not always have Christians taken kindly to investigations into the exact identity of the inspired words of Holy Scriptures. After Jerome, for example, had edited his Vulgate, making changes in the generally accepted Latin text on the basis of Hebrew manuscripts, he received a letter from Augustine telling him of a certain congregation which had threatened to abandon its bishop unless he restored the old Latin reading of Jonah 4:6, which he had replaced with Jerome's reading.

The Missouri Synod And English Work, H. B. Hemmeter May 1946

The Missouri Synod And English Work, H. B. Hemmeter

Concordia Theological Monthly

The Missouri Synod, which is about to celebrate its centennial in 1947, has been known in the past largely as a German-speaking body. Its interest and its activity in Lutheran church work in the English language are not so generally known or understood. The fact is that both the Saxon and the Franconian founders from the very beginning were interested in, and anxious to do, service in the language of their new homeland. Already before the organization of Synod in 1847 the Saxons in 1838 established their Concordia Academy in Altenburg, Missouri, enrolling at the very start one who was …

Compulsory Military Training From The Viewpoint Of The Church, Herman J. Grimm May 1946

Compulsory Military Training From The Viewpoint Of The Church, Herman J. Grimm

Bachelor of Divinity

Therefore it is important that we discuss compulsory military training from the viewpoint of the church. We will consider the various plans which have been proposed to provide this compulsory military training for the youth of the nation. We will think out what the viewpoint of the church, of all believers in general, and of our own church body in particular, should be in regard to this matter. We will examine the relation between compulsory military training and the church. We will take note of the principal arguments before the public, and give attention to the arguments both for and …

The Counter-Reformation In The Netherlands, Herman Mueller May 1946

The Counter-Reformation In The Netherlands, Herman Mueller

Bachelor of Divinity

By way of introduction to this Thesis I would like to retell the story of the funeral services for Charles V in Brussels. On December.29, 1558 the procession of three thousand monks, priests, nobles, and bishops passed through the streets of Brussels. There were banners, flags, and floats representing the emperor's achievements. Also the quiet symbol of departed power, twenty-four riderless horses bearing the arms of a kingdom or a duchy over which the dead man had reigned.

The Doctrine Of The Resurrection Of The Body As Taught In The Pauline Espistles, Norbert Becker May 1946

The Doctrine Of The Resurrection Of The Body As Taught In The Pauline Espistles, Norbert Becker

Bachelor of Divinity

It is our purpose to present the entire teaching of Paul on the fundamental doctrine of the resurrection. In the course of the positive presentation of Paul's teaching it will become clear that he nowhere contradicts himself but that he is consistent throughout. It will also become evident that Paul's doctrine of the resurrection is in complete harmony with the teachings of Jesus and with other parts of Scripture. When we speak of Pauline theology, therefore, we simply refer to the doctrines contained in Paul's epistles.

Problems In The Pauline Chronology, Christian Adam May 1946

Problems In The Pauline Chronology, Christian Adam

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The picture of Paul’s life gains appreciably in richness when we draw upon the historical references which we find in his own epistles. The epistles of Paul are so autobiographical in content. The frequent mention which he makes of his movements and plans helps us to fill in the gaps which we find in Acts. There are, for instance, in Galatians I and II references to his activities during the period between his conversion and his going to Antioch which at least slightly draw back the veil from this otherwise unknown period.

The Problem Of Vanity In Ecclesiastes, George Thomas May 1946

The Problem Of Vanity In Ecclesiastes, George Thomas

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

In this weary and distracted world, burdened down with sin and sorrow, we naturally asks “Is there anything worth seeking, worth having? anything that will still the cravings of the restless spirit within us, and bring peace and satisfaction to the troubled heart? What should be the chief object of man's desire and pursuit? To what end should life be devoted? Where does man finally go, i.e., what happens to him at death? Are all things really vanity?"

That is the problem which Solomon undertook to solve in Ecclesiastes - he resolves all the foregoing questions under the category of …
