Practical Guidelines For Supervisors And Interns Within A Biblical Perspective Of Ministry, Mendel Reid
Practical Guidelines For Supervisors And Interns Within A Biblical Perspective Of Ministry, Mendel Reid
Doctor of Ministry Projects
The purpose of this project is to develop a program to guide ministers in the task of supervision and training of Seventh-day Adventist ministerial interns in the West Indies Union of Seventh-day Adventists. The project will deal with issues relating to the "apprenticeship" model rather than the "supervisory" model. While the latter does in some instances justify priority over the former, the present lack of resources and personnel and the average number of churches comprising a pastoral circuit could not make this program workable at this point in time; nor could it meet the most urgent needs of the territory.

For the second year, the Wheat Ridge Foundation has granted $23,700 to the Lutheran Human Relations Association of America (LHRAA) to conduct two workshops for congregations in racially changing neighborhoods.
Last year's workshops involved seven midwest and seven west coast congregations. In the two week-long events - one in Chicago and one in Los Angeles - lay leaders and pastors developed skills to help their congregations minister more effectively in their changing communities (November 1977 and December 1977 VANGUARD).

This manual contains fifty descriptions of ministry positions indigenous to the local church. Ministries such as "evangelist", "district superintendent"• and "bishop" are not included because these ministries are not indigenous to the local church. This information is designed for use in Evangelical Protestant congregations with membership and/or average Sunday school attendance in excess of 400 persons.

Lutherans in the United States and Canada quickly voiced strong criticism of the Republic of South Africa's October 19 bannings and arrests of black leaders.
Several Lutheran leaders issued statements condemning the repressive actions (see page 2 for excerpts).
Selected Variables Related To Alienation From Religion As Perceived By Students Attending Seventh-Day Adventist Academies In The United States, Roger L. Dudley
Selected Variables Related To Alienation From Religion As Perceived By Students Attending Seventh-Day Adventist Academies In The United States, Roger L. Dudley
Dissertations
Problem. Some young people who are reared in religious homes reject the religion of their parents upon reaching adolescence. This is a matter of crucial concern to church youth leaders as well as to parents. It was the purpose of the present study to discover relationships that may exist between alienation from religion and other selected variables. It was hypothesized that religious alienation is related to the quality of the relationships— especially as those relationships concern religious values— chat the young people have with parents and other authority figures. Independent variables were chosen in accordance with that hypothesis which was …
The Cult Of Liberation: The Berkeley Free Church And The Radical Church Movement 1967-1972 Volume 2, Harlan Stelmach
The Cult Of Liberation: The Berkeley Free Church And The Radical Church Movement 1967-1972 Volume 2, Harlan Stelmach
Collected Faculty Scholarship
The Berkeley Free Church was a major actor in the drama of church social action in the sixties. The emergence of the Free Church coincided with the high water mark of social action, and its dissolution paralleled the receding waters of church based social action in the early seventies. The and fall of the Free Church, as this study point out, indicates that there were forces outside the churches that were also dictating the ebb and flow of the waters of church social action. As much as the church activists were involved in social reform movements in the sixties and …

Problem. Adolescence is characterized by many problems of adjustment. Seventh-day Adventist youth cannot be expected to be immune to these problems. The purpose of the study was to ascertain the moral and religious problems and attitudes as perceived by students in Adventist academies. An attempt was also made to evaluate, from the students' viewpoint, the effectiveness of the provisions made by the academies to help meet these problems. Method Nineteen hundred and twenty students were chosen by a stratified random method from all enrollees in Seventh-day Adventist academies In the United States and Canada. Students were asked to respond to …
The Importance Of Doctrinal Teaching In Holiness Camp Meetings, David C. Johnson
The Importance Of Doctrinal Teaching In Holiness Camp Meetings, David C. Johnson
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
Interest in this research began during the summer of 1974 with the author's involvement in a doctrine class for teenagers. The class was part of the program of the Jennings Lodge Summer Assembly Camp of the Evangelical Church of North America. Each general class had already been established, but no curriculum had been chosen. Thus it was necessary to improvise until improvement could be made. Therefore, this project began as an attempt to provide doctrinal material for teaching teens foundations of faith in the summer camp setting. It includes research into the needs of youth, as well as methods through …

Project--Disciple-A Model For Parish Youth Ministry, Thomas Hirsch
Master of Divinity Thesis
This study is written to assist youth leaders and adult counselors in working out models for ministry among young people in the parish. As this model develops it will become obvious that its practical application is limited to the parish medium, although many of the principles underlying its structure may indeed find adaptation elsewhere. To further aid the reader, a rather extensive bibliography is included also. With such an index of available resources, the creative youth leader or adult counselor will have an excellent platform from which to begin youth ministry.

A Study For The Purpose Of Finding Suitable Affiliation For Trinity Christian Church, Dennis Deardorff
A Study For The Purpose Of Finding Suitable Affiliation For Trinity Christian Church, Dennis Deardorff
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
Protestantism today is known for its numerous and varied sects, denominations, and movements. A survey of the yellow pages of a metropolitan phone book will yield hundreds of names of local organizations. Some of these are part of larger denominations while others function as independent bodies. They vary in size, government, doctrine, ethics and types of members. The diversity and multiplicity of these churches is the result of many years of change, struggle, and fragmentation since the Reformation. Most can point to specific leaders as founders of their organizations. They may also focus on specific issues or doctrines as the …
A Program Of Christian Education For The Evangelical Methodist Church, Joan W. Dean
A Program Of Christian Education For The Evangelical Methodist Church, Joan W. Dean
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
The Evangelical Methodist Church has demonstrated from its inception in 1946 an awareness that the education of her "children'' was important. Through affiliation with selected institutions of higher education, through a continuing interest in quality Sunday School curriculum, and an awareness of the important role of the Christian home the denomination has evidenced concern for a qualifying Christian Education ministry. Her purpose for existence as a denomination would be defeated if she fails to teach the basic principles concerning man's relationship with God. It is time for the Evangelical Methodist Church to take vigorous steps to develop her potential in …

Youth: A Part Of, Not Apart From, The Church, Glenn Kopper
Master of Divinity Thesis
Within the past decade youth have seemingly charged onto center stage in the arena of life in America, and the pace of their "now generation" is one which calls for action. As the church, the body of Christ here on earth, we cannot afford to sit back and wait for something to develop, but rather, we must decide on how to respond to the "adolescent epidemic" and then we must act upon our decision by implementing it. "Leading the young to use their power and vitality responsibly is the biggest task facing today's Christian leaders." That statement might well be …
Social Action As Social Change Through A Process Of Insulation, Leonard Siegfred Nelson
Social Action As Social Change Through A Process Of Insulation, Leonard Siegfred Nelson
Dissertations and Theses
This study has attempted to investigate the radical change in the Greater Portland Council of Churches’ (GPCC’s) organizational goals and actions--from its relative uninvolvement over to its preoccupation with local social, political and economic issues. In the past, classical sociological theory of religion has placed great emphasis on religion’s integrative, or conservative functions in society. Empirical studies have documented the conservative socio-political views of the majority of Protestant parishioners. Knowing this, I expected to find a significant conservative reaction swelling up from the lay parishioners of the GPCC's member congregations. A preliminary investigation revealed this assumption to be invalid. The …

An Examination Of Studies On Beliefs Of Christians With Special Reference To Their Validity And Their Insights Regarding Lutheran Youth, Norman Steffen
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The goal of this thesis is to evaluate the accuracy and validity of the findings of specific recent research into the beliefs, values, and action patterns of Christians. This points to ways for utilizing these and other such studies critically and yet positively in the church's ministry, especially to youth.

A Study Of Ministry To College-Age Youth, Almon Weston Harlow
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel: it is the power of God for salvation to every one who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek" (Romans 1:16). The good news for the present generation is the same as it was for the people of the first century. Individual men and women may be saved by the grace of God through personal faith in Jesus Christ.

And most of the non-Lutherans were Indians - Indians from California, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Illinois and a few more states.
