The Church's Approach To The Rehabilitation Of Juvenile Delinquents Through An Institutional Setting, Leonard Laetsch May 1967

The Church's Approach To The Rehabilitation Of Juvenile Delinquents Through An Institutional Setting, Leonard Laetsch

Bachelor of Divinity

Christian concern for one's fellow man finds its roots in the example for all Christian living, in Christ Himself. As He was vitally concerned about the welfare of His contemporaries, so Christians through-out the ages have tried to reflect a similar concern for their contemporaries. Christians desire that all men come to a knowledge of Christ Jesus as the Savior and Redeemer of the world, Who brings a new way of life both in this world and in the world to come. Whenever a follower of Christ sees acts of delinquency, he becomes concerned because he recognizes them as results …

Prostitution- An Examination Of Some Aspects And Some Approaches Toward The Phenomenon, Lawrence Myers May 1967

Prostitution- An Examination Of Some Aspects And Some Approaches Toward The Phenomenon, Lawrence Myers

Bachelor of Divinity

If society in general has made few attempts at understanding prostitution, the few materials from the Church’s viewpoint indicate that it has done little also. Since the nature of prostitution has been changing and recent studies have been made, there are now new bases on which to attempt an understanding of prostitution. The purpose of this study is to examine some aspects of prostitution and some approaches to it.

Editorial, Walter Wegner Dec 1966

Editorial, Walter Wegner

Concordia Theological Monthly

In the lead article in this issue, Richard Jungkuntz asserts that a primary concern underlying all Christian activity is "the teaching of the truth." This is true, he insists, nor only when Christians are specifically engaged in the formal teaching of the content of Holy Scripture; it is equally true when Christians concern themselves with matters in "the field of social concern, civil rights, interchurch relations, and others besides.'" His essay goes on not only to provide examples of tensions which arise in the church as it exercises its primary concern but also to offer Gospel-oriented suggestions for the resolution …

Loving Without Destroying: A Study Of Welfare Work In The Inner City, Considering The Problem Of Freedom With A Special Reference To Dostoevsky's "The Legend Of The Grand Inquisitor", Michael Wendt

Bachelor of Divinity

Church leaders today are saying that the future of the church is being decided in the inner city. If the church is able to rise above itself, to meet the challenge of the inner city, they aver, there is hope that it might also be able to meet the challenge of its existence in other geographic and intellectual realms as well. It is in the inner city that the church meets the problems of existence head-on. It is there that reality is met. It is there that the church cannot hide behind pious words or statements by committees. The church …

Lutheran Social Welfare Work And The Emotionally Disturbed Child, Dennis Pegorsch Nov 1966

Lutheran Social Welfare Work And The Emotionally Disturbed Child, Dennis Pegorsch

Bachelor of Divinity

In: this research paper there will be an examination of the theology and the responsibility of the Lutheran Church in social welfare work and particularly in its mission to emotionally disturbed children.

Although much has been said and written in the area of church and youth, little emphasis has been placed on reexamining the church's concern for emotionally disturbed children. This paper will not deal with juvenile delinquency per se even though there is a very fine distinction between juvenile delinquents and emotionally disturbed children since many juvenile delinquents are emotionally disturbed. But duet the limited amount of materials dealing …

The Church In Community Organization, Martin H. Scharlemann May 1966

The Church In Community Organization, Martin H. Scharlemann

Concordia Theological Monthly

A modern city, H. G. Wells once remarked, looks like '"something that burst an intolerable envelope and splashed." The unsightliness of our urban jungles has grown even worse since, and the process of disintegration runs on apace. The Bureau of the Census estimates that some 135 million Americans now live in metropolitan areas. By the year 2000, it predicts, 80 percent of our 330,000,000 citizens will be a put of our urbanized communities, which are expanding at the rate of 3,000 aces per day. All this goes on without benefit of comprehensive planing in terms of moral and spiritual values.

A Study Of Moral Development In Mormon Culture, Steve Foster Gilliland Jan 1966

A Study Of Moral Development In Mormon Culture, Steve Foster Gilliland

Theses and Dissertations

Previous studies have indicated that the moral development of the child may follow a "developmental" process. That is, the child progresses through an invariant series of stages, each characterized by certain modes of thought. As the child passes from one stage to another, he integrates the old stage into the new one. Kohlberg proposed a hierarchy of six stages through which the child would progress on his way to moral maturity. His hypothesis has been supported by empirical evidence.

Research findings have indicated that the Mormon culture appeared to be different in values and moral behavior than other United States …

Theological Education And The Special Ministries, C. Thomas Spitz Jun 1965

Theological Education And The Special Ministries, C. Thomas Spitz

Concordia Theological Monthly

There have been two major developments in the recent history of theological education in America which have been of special interest to the special ministries. Both have been stimulated greatly by the agonizing reappraisal and introspection in which most theological schools and denominational departments of theological education have been engaged regarding their purpose, function, and curricula.

The United Church Of Canada History Of The Union Of The Presbyterian, Methodist, And Congregational Churches Of Canada, Walter Seehagel Apr 1965

The United Church Of Canada History Of The Union Of The Presbyterian, Methodist, And Congregational Churches Of Canada, Walter Seehagel

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

This study concerns itself with the movement which brought The United Church of Canada into being. The writer is concerned not so much with the theology and the psychology of the movement, as he is with the history of the movement. Accordingly, the study will endeavor to set forth "how" The United Church of Canada came into being, and not “why" it came into being. It will therefore trace the union movement step by step until its consummation on June 10, 1925.
