Alluding to the enormous investments in wellness, health, and anti-aging by affluent US society today the article focuses on the anthropological and religious implications of this phenomenon by stating that the pursuit of such caring for the body has superseded the quest for salvation. The first section provides a historical background analysis of how the contemporary semi-religious bodymindedness came about, while the second part analyses wellness, health, and salvation from a phenomenological point of view. It shows that any body image which does not address human frailty turns into something utterly inhumane while a religiously informed anthropology, in contrast, not …

Spiritual Care for Missionaries Within the Ministry Context of Make Way Partners is the report of a research project. The objective of this project was to study the spiritual care of missionaries within the ministry context of Make Way Partners (MWP). The ministry context of MWP is to prevent and combat human trafficking. The context of this project was in the country of Sudan, in and near Darfur.

In particular, the study addressed the possibility that the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator might aid the leadership of MWP in predicting how missionaries might respond to stress in the field. Also, the project …

In a context that is characterized by violence, poverty, and strained Muslim-Christian relations, the Apostolic Vicariate of Jolo (AVJ) understands its mission as enabling the birth of a community of peace and justice. To this end, the AVJ considers dialogue with the Moros as an integral element of its mission and ministries. For the AVJ, the church’s identity as a sacrament of God’s love is intimately related to the church’s relationship with the predominantly Muslim populace. Contextualization of the gospel means that the gospel has not only been communicated but has also been understood, lived out, and has transformed individuals, and communities, as well as their culture. If we are to communicate the gospel message to other cultures, we must find ways to make it comprehensible without losing the message in cultural trappings. The gospel has multiple facets, of which relief and development are an integral part. Thus the integration of word and deed, being and doing, must always be the focus of true holistic mission.

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

Roland Allen was a prolific writer. During his lifetime, he authored numerous books, pamphlets, and articles. Upon examination of Allen’s writings regarding the Church, the researcher encounters certain themes over and over again. Allen was a master of redundancy. His repetition was necessary; in fact, it was strategic. The contemporary scholar must remember that Allen was arguing against a long-standing missionary tradition.
