A Study Of The Frequency And Difficulty Of The Vocabulary Of The Baltimore Catechism, Mary Baptista Kirsch
Bachelors’ Theses
The writer has made a study and a tabulation of the words found in the Baltimore Catechism, comprising one hundred twenty-five pages. The words and their frequency of appearance were listed and recorded on block paper. At the left hand side of the paper appeared the words and the top row indicated the number of pages of the entire book. After the completion of the tabulation of the words in the book, approximately six hundred ninety words appeared on the total list. From this list the words have been arranged as to their frequency of appearance. This arrangement has served …
The Historical And Theological Background Of The Reformed Church In The United States, Carl J.G. Russom
The Historical And Theological Background Of The Reformed Church In The United States, Carl J.G. Russom
Graduate Thesis Collection
Long ago God reverently commanded His people Israel to relate to their children and their children's children, what it was He had done for His people in the days of old. We believe this responsibility still to be incumbent not only upon the great church since that day, but upon every community of Christian people since then.
The Theology Of Clement Of Alexandria, Edward M. Sausaman
The Theology Of Clement Of Alexandria, Edward M. Sausaman
Graduate Thesis Collection
The following study of the theology of Clement of Alexandria is an attempt to gain some definite ideas of the theological tenets held by this early Christian. Such a study reveals the fact that Clement did not altogether have a definite theology completely formulated. On some points he has been almost silent - for reasons quite apparent. Although later theologies have attempted to find their justification in these early church fathers, in this work there is no such attempt.

A Study Of The Teachers In Senior Seminaries Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, Wendell M. Rigby

The purpose of this study was to determine those qualifications possessed by those certain men and women who were teaching senior seminaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1936-37, and to determine the qualifications which seem to have made those persons eligible for selection as teachers in those seminaries.

The Arrival Of The Saxons In St. Louis, W. G. Polack
The Arrival Of The Saxons In St. Louis, W. G. Polack
Concordia Theological Monthly
After relating something of the efforts made to establish Stephan's authority over the entire Saxon group, he declares that Stephan was again making his nightly "Spaziergaenge" with his friends but that he did not take part, because he considered it an unseemly practise, and, besides, he was too tired, after teaching school all day, to devote the nights, meant for rest, to running around.

People are saying that De Servo Arbitrio is a dangerous book. We have heard them rail against it, first, because of Luther's teaching on the diacretio personarum, and, secondly, because of his statements concerning the Deus Absconditus. Usually the warning against De Servo Arbitrio takes this third form: It teaches Calviniatic determinism. If this charge is well founded, our book could not serve as a handbook for a course in Lutheran theology. It is therefore necessary to examine this sinister charge at some length.

Erasmus On Luther, Wm. Dallmann
Erasmus On Luther, Wm. Dallmann
Concordia Theological Monthly
Luther's opposition to the Church of Rome was welcomed by many leaders in Church and State who had long chafed under the yoke of Popery. One of these leaders was the renowned Humanist Erasmus of Rotterdam. Yet Erasmus, like so many others, had not grasped the fundamental principles of Luther's Reformation. In the articulus stantis et cadentis ecclesiae, that of justification by grace, through faith, without works, Erasmus remained a good Romanist. For many years he refused to take up his pen against Luther in spite of urgent requests and demands on the part of Rome. Finally he yielded.

Why Should A Pastor Continue To Study Church History?, W. G. Polack
Why Should A Pastor Continue To Study Church History?, W. G. Polack
Concordia Theological Monthly
The history of the Church, the account of the progress of the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the world, with all the many ramifications it presents, the great characters it introduces, and the stirring and dramatic events it portrays, strangely enough does not interest every pastor, as it does not interest every theological student at our Seminary. Some pastors sagely declare that they do not care about the study of church history, what they are interested in is making church history. The latter may be a most laudable ambition, but one wonders whether real, worth-while history can be made by …
Mental Hygiene And The Bible, H. D. Mensing
Mental Hygiene And The Bible, H. D. Mensing
Concordia Theological Monthly
Mental hygiene has been variously defined, depending upon the school represented or the scope intended. It is sometimes broadly conceived as including the cure of the •abnormal and diseased mind (psychiatry), as also the development and preservation of a healthy mind, an integrated personality. The stress, however, is always upon the prophylaxis, upon the prevention of maladjustment. "All mental hygiene is directed toward a happy and successful life in conformity with the dictates of personal and higher laws."

A Course In Lutheran Theology, Th. Engelder
Concordia Theological Monthly
We have not exhausted the subject of sola gratia as treated by Luther in De Servo Arbitrio. There is the all-important matter of the sinner's justification before God. And the sola gratia is the heart of the doctrine of justification. That is the blessed truth which comforts the heart of the despairing sinner. That is the glorious truth which the minister of the Gospel needs to study and restudy, to study every day of his life.
