The History Of The Attitudes Within The Missouri Synod Toward Life Insurance, James W. Albers
The History Of The Attitudes Within The Missouri Synod Toward Life Insurance, James W. Albers
Doctor of Theology Dissertation
This dissertation had several objectives. The chief objective was simply to describe the history of attitudes within the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod toward life insurance. There has been an oral tradition within the Missouri Synod which states that although the Synod had once opposed life insurance it no longer did so because life insurance has changed. The first objective, therefore, has been to try to determine the validity of that oral tradition.

The Use Of The Word In The Counseling Process, Leonard E. Stahlke
Master of Sacred Theology Thesis
The purpose of this study was to investigate the problem of what is meant by pastoral care and pastoral counseling, and by the counseling process, the techniques used in that process, and the place of the pastoral counseling process in the practical ministry of the pastor; then, to relate these findings to a sound scriptural approach of the use of the Word in the counseling process.

These comments form a sequel to an earlier editorial which was entitled "Why Missouri?" The issue remains the same. The future of Missouri, even as its reason for existence, depends on Missouri's readiness to be the church of the Gospel.

The Minister's Role With The Drug Problem, Roger Dennis Wolff
The Minister's Role With The Drug Problem, Roger Dennis Wolff
Western Evangelical Seminary Theses
Because of the increasing use of drugs in this country today, the writer has a deep concern for the potential dangers inherent in the problem. On August 21, 1971, the American Broadcasting Company presented on Channel two in Portland, Oregon, "Heroes and Heroin." On the program they quoted President Nixon, as saying, "drug abuse is America's number one enemy." On June 17, 1971, President Nixon asked congress for 155 million dollars to help stem drug abuse. He described drug addiction as having "assumed the dimensions of a national emergency."

The One Eucharist For The One World, Arthur Carl Piepkorn
The One Eucharist For The One World, Arthur Carl Piepkorn
Concordia Theological Monthly
After describing the private character of the Eucharist, Dr. Piepkorn defends its public character with four observations. (1) The humanity of Jesus Christ is present and this unites Him and the worshiper with all humanity. (2) The Christ who is present is the Creator of all things. (3) Christ and His Father have compassion for the whole world and employ many worldly means to bring life to people. (4) The Eucharist is designed to prepare us for service to the world.

A recent Associated Press news story by Bernard Gavzer makes a startling, frightening comparison between the conditions which marked the lives of people in minority communities in this country during the 1960's, and the conditions which affect their lives today.
"As bad as things were then. . . they are worse now. Jobs, police, hostility, housing, schools, welfare, medical care. Bad. And a change, too, in many people. Despair, isolation, a notion that the color of evil is white."

As Lutheran meetings go, this was a strange one. Probably more non-Lutherans than Lutherans were present. And most of the non-Lutherans were Indians - Indians from California, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Minnesota, South Dakota, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Illinois and a few more states.
