Christian Responsibility And Community Process, Joseph A. Grau Feb 1974

Christian Responsibility And Community Process, Joseph A. Grau

Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies Faculty Publications

Few thoughtful Christians deny that as Christians they should be doing something about the social problems of our time. But, they are often not sure as to the right way of going about it. When they come to grips with the meaning of their responsibilities as Christians in the world, they are struck by the complexity of a vast network of interlocking problems, and the strong differences of opinion among people of good will about how to unravel an apparently hopeless tangle of social, political, economic, and cultural affairs. Consequently, it is not enough to say, "Follow your conscience, and …

Holy Spirit In The Now - I, Oral Roberts

Holy Spirit In the Now

From the Introduction by Oral Roberts:

This study on the Holy Spirit In The Now comes out of my personal experience and over 30 years of prayer and study of the Word.

It was through the generosity of my good friend, the late J. Arthur Rank, outstanding British businessman, member of the Parliament, and Methodist layman, that the Oral Roberts University’s first endowed academic chair on the Holy Spirt was established in the fall of 1972.

Because of his great interest in the Holy Spirit, Lord Rank determined to establish this chair at ORU. However, on the day he was …

Judge Nichol, who presided at the Wounded Knee trial ~ St. Paul, has also worked with the American Legion serving as chairman of its Americanism Committee. He could be considered a conservative man. According to some who were present at the trial, he spoke good words about the FBI participation in the trial calling it the finest agency of its kind in the world. Eight and one-half months and hours of testimony later, the judge spoke other words, giving a scalding assessment of what he had witnessed, concluding, "This has been a bad year for justice."

The building of new communities was the major emphasis for the LHRAA Institute on Human Relations, held during the last weekend in July on the campus of Valparaiso University, Valparaiso, Ind.

Institute participants worked together on techniques and procedures for cultivating Christian communities. Within such communities, issues of local concern can be assessed, resources evaluated, and decisions made about the kind of action which would most effectively address the problems.

The statement was made by Bishop Leonard N. Auala of Namibia's Ovambokavango Lutheran Church, head of the African church and a leader in the struggle against apartheid policies imposed on South-West Africa. South Africa continues to control the territory despite the removal of the administrative mandate by the United Nations General Assembly in 1966, the UN-established council, in 1967, to govern the area until independence, and a 1971 ruling by the International Court of Justice that South Africa give up Namibia.

Ua35/11 Student Honors Research Bulletin, Vol. Ii, Wku Honors Program

WKU Administration Documents

Articles written by honors program students. They were originally research projects, class papers or essays written for academic credit, but in each case the student has done further work editing and improving his or her manuscript for this publication. The articles represent a broad range of interests and disciplines, and they indicate a healthy attempt on the part of at least some students to dig for deeper knowledge and understanding than is usually associated with undergraduate study.

A Q-Sort Comparison Between Cultural Expectations Of Chinese And Cultural Perceptions Of Returned Latter-Day Saint Missionaries From The United States Who Had Been Assigned To Chinese Missions, Gary G. Y. Chu

Theses and Dissertations

This project was designed to generate information relative to a specific intercultural communication situation, especially directed toward diversity between cultural expectation and performance in the following areas: first, Chinese expectation of American Latter-day Saint missionaries' performance in Chinese contexts; and second, performance of the missionaries, as reflected by their knowledge of proper conduct in Chinese contexts at the end of their missions.

Using Q-card sorting procedures and t-test analysis, an analytically developed instrument consisting of seventy statements grouped in six behavior categories was applied in the specific areas. Twenty-nine of the seventy statements showed significant diversity. Four of the hypothesized …

Minnesota, Red Lake Reservation, St. Mary's Mission School, 1974, John B. Tennelly, Bureau Of Catholic Indian Missions

Minnesota

The Bureau of Catholic Indian Missions (BCIM) was created in 1874 as the Office of the Commissioner for Catholic Indian Missions to protect, promote, and administer the Native American mission interests of the Catholic Church in the United States. Records in this group are organized by record group and then state or territory and year. Collection organization varies very little throughout the collection, however, prior to 1921, general correspondence was organized by location. Starting with Director Hughes, general correspondence was placed as its own subgroup within the collection and is organized alphabetically. Please go to Ask An Archivist if you …

An Inquiry Into The Needs And Problems Of The Seventh-Day Adventist One-Parent Family, Elwood E. Staff Jan 1974

An Inquiry Into The Needs And Problems Of The Seventh-Day Adventist One-Parent Family, Elwood E. Staff

Doctor of Ministry Projects

There has been much concern in recent years about the fate of the American family. This writer is focusing on the one-parent nuclear family. A further specification in the family under study is female-headed Seventh-day Adventist. This project then, is a multiple case study of maternal one- parent families. The small sample was chosen on a non-random basis with the object of typifying what might be found in a Seventh-day Adventist pastorate. The writer was successful in cooperation with the local pastor in obtaining a sample of thirteen Seventh-day Adventist maternal one- parent families where the parent has been widowed …

A Documentary History Of The Lord's Way Of Watching Over The Church By The Priesthood Through The Ages, Rex A. Anderson Jan 1974

A Documentary History Of The Lord's Way Of Watching Over The Church By The Priesthood Through The Ages, Rex A. Anderson

Theses and Dissertations

Since the days of Adam the Lord has called upon the priesthood to watch over the families: To see that fathers are doing their duty as patriarchs over their families, and to assist and encourage the fathers in this responsibility. Thus thwarting the efforts of Satan to lead the children of men astray. The principle has always been for the priesthood to watch over the families. But the process of how this is done has changed from time to time according to the needs of the people. This treatise covers the history of these changes in documentary form.

The Mormon Role In Irrigation Beginnings And Diffusions In The Western States: An Historical Geography, Kelly C. Harper Jan 1974

The Mormon Role In Irrigation Beginnings And Diffusions In The Western States: An Historical Geography, Kelly C. Harper

Theses and Dissertations

Irrigation has played an important part in the development of the Western States. Its beginnings have often been associated with the Mormon settlement in Utah. However, irrigation had its inception in the West long before the Mormons came to the Great Basin in 1847. The spatial extent of irrigation before this date included limited acreage in nearly every Western State.

Before their arrival in the Great Basin the Mormons had become acquainted with irrigation methods. Knowledge of irrigation had diffused to them primarily from the Spanish in the Southwest. Thus, they were well prepared to begin their irrigation enterprises in …

The Development Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints In Hawaii, Richard C. Harvey

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis depicts the development of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Hawaiian Islands from the landing of the first LDS missionaries in 1850 up to the 1970's. Church policy in Hawaii may be seen as an ordered, phasal development respectively involving spiritual, educational, and cultural spheres of interaction.
