Utah Indians And The Indian Slave Trade: The Mormon Adoption Program And Its Effect On The Indian Slaves, Robert M. Muhlestein Jan 1991

Utah Indians And The Indian Slave Trade: The Mormon Adoption Program And Its Effect On The Indian Slaves, Robert M. Muhlestein

Theses and Dissertations

This thesis is a study of the Mormon adoption program developed by the Mormons in response to the Indian slave trade in Utah, 1850-1880. It focuses on the Mormon justifications, as enumerated by Brigham Young, for the adoption policy and it links those justifications to expected results. Further this thesis compares the Mormon's expected results with the actual results of the adoption program through an analysis of historical accounts and Mormon ordinance records.

Church Growthcoming Of Age, Elmer Towns Dec 1990

Church Growthcoming Of Age, Elmer Towns

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

The Church Growth movement is relatively young in recognition and development. Even though there have been growing churches since Pentecost, Church Growth is a relatively young area of study. As a discipline, it has come a long way since its birth, and must move through adolescence to adulthood. I think we in the North American Society of Church Growth have a better understanding of the nature and purpose of Church Growth than anyone outside our discipline. Some outside our movement, or perhaps many, do not know who we are or what we do. There is still ignorance about Church Growth.

Towards A Church Growth Agenda For The 1990'S, Eddie Gibbs

Journal of the American Society for Church Growth

The Church Growth Movement in North America is now fifteen Years old and these two days represent the occasion of the fourth annual meeting of the North American Society for Church Growth. As we review the past we can celebrate a great deal of significant achievement in applying Church Growth insights to mobilizing the membership in a giftbased ministry, leadership management, and a new church planting. It occurs to me that, having covered a range of basic issues, and since we are now beginning to see the proliferation of individual concerns according to our various areas of interest, that there …

Maternal Employment, Marital Status, And Religiosity And The Social Adaptational Status Of First Grade Children In Selected Oregon Schools, Grace Peng-Mi Chew Nov 1990

Maternal Employment, Marital Status, And Religiosity And The Social Adaptational Status Of First Grade Children In Selected Oregon Schools, Grace Peng-Mi Chew

Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)

This study attempted to examine whether certain maternal variables (i.e., maternal employment, marital status, and religiosity) could be used to accurately predict first-graders' social adaptational status (SAS), as measured by the Teacher Observation of Classroom Adaptation Scale (TOCA).

One-hundred-and-fifty volunteering mothers (or mother surrogates) and their first-grade child(ren) participated in this study. Familial and individual data were obtained through a structured mother interview. The participating children's teachers rated the children's SAS on the TOCA during the 9th and 15th weeks of the academic school year. Five Christian-oriented private schools and two public schools participated in this study.

Developing A Program For Interpersonal Ministry In The Liturgy For St. Paul Lutheran Church Shreveport, Louisiana, Wesley Toncre Oct 1990

Developing A Program For Interpersonal Ministry In The Liturgy For St. Paul Lutheran Church Shreveport, Louisiana, Wesley Toncre

Doctor of Ministry Major Applied Project

This major applied project explores the Scriptures, the Lutheran Confessions, the tradition of the Fathers and contemporary ecclesiastical thinking in an attempt to discover and begin to define the contributory role of the individual worshiper in Lutheran corporate liturgical worship today. Further, it develops a workshop structure that is designed to provide members of one particular congregation with the knowledge, attitudes, skills and opportunities to execute those roles by serving one another effectively in response to God's ministry to them while they are gathered around Word and sacrament.

It is noted that neither Holy Scripture nor the Lutheran Confessions restrict …
