A Historical Study Of The Exploration Of Utah Valley And The Story Of Fort Utah, Ray C. Colton
A Historical Study Of The Exploration Of Utah Valley And The Story Of Fort Utah, Ray C. Colton
Theses and Dissertations
The exploration of Utah Valley and the history of Fort Utah is the story of the conquest and colonization of the American frontier. Discovered in the days of Western expansion, the Valley was identified with the principal factors in the development of the Intermountain West. It heard the chant of the gray robed Franciscan priests, became a favorite haunt of the trail blazing fur trapper and trader, was the site of the ancient rendezvous of the Indian, saw the gold seekers trudge wearily on to California, and with the founding of Fort Utah served as the springboard of Southern Utah …

The Evil Of The Hades Gospel, Th. Engelder
The Evil Of The Hades Gospel, Th. Engelder
Concordia Theological Monthly
Men are asking and imploring the Church to accept the teaching that some of those who have died in unbelief will get another opportunity to hear the Gospel in Hades. E. H. Plumptre tells us that it is our sacred duty to restore this "'lost article," this "'priceless, but forgotten truth," this ''truth of wider, happier thoughts," and charges those who refuse to do it with having a ''narrow, unloving'' mind. (The Spirits in. Prison, pp. 4, 17, 25, 28.) J. Paterson-Smyth "regrets that the indignant Reformers, in sweeping away the falsehood and the absurdities connected with the Roman purgatory …
The Lord's Prayer, The Pastor's Prayer, G. H. Smukal
The Lord's Prayer, The Pastor's Prayer, G. H. Smukal
Concordia Theological Monthly
While the etymological derivation may remain for years to come a matter of controversy, it is certain that ὲπιούσιος; does not denote a bread extraordinarily given. And thus we arrive at the old, familiar translation "daily." It is not a farfetched recommendation to pray the Matthew version in the morning devotion and the Luke version in the evening. However, we cannot pass on every occasion of prayer through the painful choice of the version to be used, for the day would end without our partaking of food.
Daughters Of Serbin, 1870-1905 History Of The Lutheran Churches At Fedor And Warda, Texas, Arthur C. Repp
Daughters Of Serbin, 1870-1905 History Of The Lutheran Churches At Fedor And Warda, Texas, Arthur C. Repp
Bachelor of Divinity
The history of St. Paul's congregation, as it was later called, with its doctrinal, racial, and language disputes, has already been told. But the story of its first daughters, the congregations which were organized at Fedor and Warde, Texas, is equally important for it shows how the parent and branch congregations influenced one another and how they in turn become one of the strong nuclei around which the present Texas District of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and Other States was formed.

Geography Of The Bible In Relation To Inspiration, Carl Eberhard
Geography Of The Bible In Relation To Inspiration, Carl Eberhard
Concordia Theological Monthly
The connection between geography and the doctrine of inspiration, at least as far as this group is concerned, seems to be the sentence in the first paragraph of the Brief Statement of Missouri, which reads: "Since the Holy Scriptures are the Word of God, it goes without saying that they contain no errors or contradictions, but that they are in all their parts and words the infallible truth, also in those parts which treat of historical, geographical, and other secular matters, John 10: 35."

Kittel refers to the saying of Jesus in this passage as "dieses vielbehandelte und vielgequaelte Jesuswort" He is right. Just a little research reveals that many have written on this passage and that their interpretations do not agree. Nevertheless, though It may never be possible in this life to determine with absolute finality what the true meaning of this passage is, and though some readers of this article may not subscribe to this writer's findings, the undersigned ventures to submit his own investigation.

Foreword, W. Arndt
Foreword, W. Arndt
Concordia Theological Monthly
Again a new year dawns. God be praised for the assurance we Christians have that in spite of wretchedness, fear, famine, war, and bloodshed reigning in the world it will be a year of grace for us. The Gospel, Holy Baptism, the Lord's Supper, and, in these heavenly gifts, Christ the Redeemer Himself will be in our midst; constantly the river will be flowing the streams wherof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the Most High.
The Life And Work Of Uriah Smith, Richard Julian Hammond
The Life And Work Of Uriah Smith, Richard Julian Hammond
Master's Theses
In the development and growth of the denomlnation of Seventh-day Adventists, the names of six or eight individuals appear as exerting unusual influence. Qne of these was Uriah Smith, and because of his position as editor, writer, and preacher for half a century, it seemed of value to examine his relationship to this religious body, and more particularly, to their periodical, The Advent Review and Sabbath Herald, which he edited for forty-seven years,
Statement of the problem
Included in this study is a consideration of the influences in his early years which led Smith to accept the teachings of Seventh-day …

Geographical And Historical Factors To Be Considered For An Effective Misson Program In China, Donovan Bakalyar
Geographical And Historical Factors To Be Considered For An Effective Misson Program In China, Donovan Bakalyar
Bachelor of Divinity
As an aim, this paper purposes to extract from ·the geography and history of China factors which have an influence upon a missionary program in that country. A careful consideration of these factors will be helpful in acquiring the proper attitude or perspective for the missionary already before he enters the country. Much time will be saved, for everything will not be new when he begins his work, for he already will have a foundation upon which he can build.

Toward A Lutheran Philosophy Of Education, Paul Bretscher
Toward A Lutheran Philosophy Of Education, Paul Bretscher
Concordia Theological Monthly
This is not the first attempt in our circles to approach the subject of "a Lutheran philosophy of education." Every committee of Synod which was charged with the task to examine and, by helpful suggestions, to improve our program of higher education has, with varying degrees of comprehensiveness, articulated our philosophy of education. Especially is this true of the work done by Synod's recent "Curriculum Committees," which laid down guiding objectives of education in their reports on our junior colleges, theological seminaries, and teachers colleges, and called attention to the peculiar place of our system of higher education in the …

Verbal Inspiration- A Stumbling-Block To The Jews And Foolishness To The Greeks, Th. Engelder
Verbal Inspiration- A Stumbling-Block To The Jews And Foolishness To The Greeks, Th. Engelder
Concordia Theological Monthly
Robert F. Horton is "smitten with amazement at the unobservant and unintelligent treatment of Scripture which alone has rendered the old theory of Inspiration possible for thinking men." (Revelation. and the Bible, p.120.) F. Pieper finds that "the objections to the verbal inspiration of Holy Scripture do not manifest great ingenuity or mental acumen, but the very opposite" (What Is Christianity? P. 243). Who is right? Let us examine a few more of the absurdities and sophistries employed by the moderns in their polemics against Verbal Inspiration.

"Before dealing with these additions individually, a word may be said about them collectively. None of them occur in the Hebrew Bible, and in only one manuscript of the Septuagint proper are they found.
