The Evangelical Lutheran Church The True Visible Church On Earth, W. Arndt

Concordia Theological Monthly

When Dr. Walther, at the so-called General Meeting of our Synod, held in St. Louis in 1866, began the discussion of his essay on the topic "The Evangelical Lutheran Church the True Visible Church of God on Earth," it was realized by the delegates that a highly important subject engaged their attention; and while on account of lack of time only a part of the essay could be considered, it was resolved to print it in its entirety in order that at the District conventions its remaining sections might be studied and discussed.

Leadership-Training In Our Church, P. E. Kretzmann Oct 1935

Leadership-Training In Our Church, P. E. Kretzmann

Concordia Theological Monthly

Leadership is the quality, or attribute, by which men or women occupy prominent or influential positions and exercise guidance, or direction, with respect to others. This quality, or attribute, presupposes and involves, in the first place, certain natural or inherent traits. In a very special sense it is true that leaders are born, not made.

The First Complete Printed English Bible, J. T. Mueller Oct 1935

The First Complete Printed English Bible, J. T. Mueller

Concordia Theological Monthly

The publication of the first complete English Bible is certainly an event which we, together with all English-speaking Christians in the world, ought to commemorate with heartfelt rejoicing, renewed dedication to the study of the Bible, and greater consecration to the spread of the Bible in all lands. On the occasion of the quadricentennial of the publication of the first complete German Bible in 1934, Lutherans, commemorating Luther's complete German Bible of 1534, raised a veritable tempest of jubilant excitement throughout the world; and therefore the first appearance of the complete English Bible in the book-markets of the world should …

The Enhypostasia Of Christ's Human Nature, Walter Albrecht Aug 1935

The Enhypostasia Of Christ's Human Nature, Walter Albrecht

Concordia Theological Monthly

Accordingly we teach the enhypostasia of the human nature of Christ, i. e., the taking part of the human nature in the personality of the divine nature. This we find to be the teaching of Scripture. It teaches: "The Word was made flesh," John 1, 14. God become man not by the conversion of God into a man, but by the Second Person of the Trinity adding a human nature to His divine person.

Notes On Chiliasm, Th. Engelder Jul 1935

Notes On Chiliasm, Th. Engelder

Concordia Theological Monthly

Chiliasm vitiates the Gospel principle. Salvation is by grace alone. Salvation is by the Gospel alone. This truth constitutes the principle of Christian theology and of all Christian thought. It dominates Christian theology. It is intolerant of the conception, in any form, that salvation can come to man by any other way than by the Gospel of grace.

The Divergent Views Of Catholicism And Protestantism On The Old Testament Apocrypha, Henry L. Lieske Jun 1935

The Divergent Views Of Catholicism And Protestantism On The Old Testament Apocrypha, Henry L. Lieske

Bachelor of Divinity

However, of this one-third, or 680,000,000, about 475,000,000 are members of the Roman and Greek Catholic Churches, and about 205,000,000 belong to Protestantism. Now it becomes evident that the above-mentioned theme is a study of great importance, when it is stated that even in Christianity there is a difference of opinion, there are divergent views, as to what constitutes the Bible, the Word of God. In the Roman Catholic Bible are found certain books that are not found 1n the Protestant Bible. This fact has often given offence to that two-third non-Christian population, and also to that one-third in the …
