The Relationship Of The Resurrection Of Jesus Christ To His Work Of Reconcilliation In The Light Of The Covenant Idea, Kenneth Block Sep 1964

The Relationship Of The Resurrection Of Jesus Christ To His Work Of Reconcilliation In The Light Of The Covenant Idea, Kenneth Block

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The problem which this thesis investigates is the relationship of the resurrection of Jesus Christ to His work of reconciliation. The study of this .question is significant because the relationship of these two articles of faith has central importance in God's redemptive acts of salvation.

The author contends that the relationship between resurrection and reconciliation can be seen in the key idea of a covenant. The concept of a covenant is significant in the Old Testament. The Mosaic covenant is the most explicit example. The New Testament writers were thoroughly imbued with Old Testament concepts. To understand the import of …

Jesus Christ: Conservative And Liberal, Erwin L. Lueker Jul 1964

Jesus Christ: Conservative And Liberal, Erwin L. Lueker

Concordia Theological Monthly

Politicians, intellectuals, artists, businessmen, and also theologians are often classified as conservative or liberal. Some are even classified as radical, a term which in its basic meaning is better used to describe the thoroughgoing consistency of both the conservative and the liberal. In naive thought the conservative is the person who sees great value in a situation as it is and seeks to preserve it. The liberal, on the other hand, is a person who sees greater value in new methods, in new thoughts and in new structures. He seeks continually to be in the vanguard of those who break …

Helsinki-After One Year - A Symposium, Unknown

Concordia Theological Monthly

The contemporary movement toward a united world Lutheranism entered upon its present phase only 40 years ago. 1923 at Eisenach, Germany, the Lutheran World Convention was organized after World War I to enable Lutherans to pool their spiritual and physical resources to salvage the battered remnants of many mission fields, to bring relief to millions of sufferers all over the world, and to enable the European Lutheran churches to get back on their feet. After 24 years and another world war the members of the LWC were sufficiently encouraged by past successes to take a long step toward a stronger …

The Case Method - A Technique For Teaching Religion To Lds Youth, Cal Juel Andreasen Jul 1964

The Case Method - A Technique For Teaching Religion To Lds Youth, Cal Juel Andreasen

Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was three-fold: (1) to compile information explaining what the case method is, giving instructions concerning the use of the case method for students and instructor, and discussing how cases may be obtained and written; (2) to analyze the case method of instruction to show the advantages and disadvantages of its use in teaching religion; and (3) to develop sample cases that could be used in teaching religion in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

This study examined available research material from three major sources: (1) the use of the case method in the …

Ailred Of Riveaulx The Consistency Of His Life And Writings With His Thought And His Profession As Cistercian Monk, Tyrrell Hughes Jul 1964

Ailred Of Riveaulx The Consistency Of His Life And Writings With His Thought And His Profession As Cistercian Monk, Tyrrell Hughes

Masters Theses

First paragraph:

The author confesses to a profound emotional involvement with AiIred of Rievaulx, Saint of the Church and man whose love was charity, the love that is like God's love. But this zealousness on his behalf was born after analysis of and reflection on Ailred's life and writings, comparing these judgments with the treatments he has received at the hands of various scholars, among them the fine names of David Knowles, F.M. Powicke, C. H. Talbot and Aelred Squire. The initial reaction induced by the comparison was indignation at the injustice done AiIred, but much more at the seeming …

Christ As Creator: A Theology From Paul For Racial Integration In The Church Based Especially On Colossians 1:15-20, Herbert Schulze Jun 1964

Christ As Creator: A Theology From Paul For Racial Integration In The Church Based Especially On Colossians 1:15-20, Herbert Schulze

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The purpose of this thesis is to relate a New Testament theology to the explosive issue of race relations in the world today. If the Church of Christ is to be the light and leaven of the world, then it is safe to say that she should bear much responsibility for alleviating the current racial unrest. The writer will operate primarily in the field of exegetical theology, with complementary references to the fields of dogmatic and practical theology.

Factors In The Development And Growth Of Sects In Western New York From 1815 To 1850, Gordon Coates

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The purpose of this thesis is to study the religious climate which helped to produce these various sects so that that particular age in American history might be better evaluated and so that the present age might be better understood. The topics that will be most explicitly dealt with are: Anti-Catholicism and Antimasonry, Revivalism, the Unitarians and Universalists, Moral Reform and Social Betterment, Premillennialism especially as it is exhibited in the ideas of William Miller, Mormonism, and Spiritualism.

Papal Infallibility, Judith A. Giffrow Jun 1964

Papal Infallibility, Judith A. Giffrow

Honors Projects

This paper has as its purpose to promote understanding of one of the great misunderstandings within and without the Roman Church...Papal Infallibility. While the writer does not presuppose to be qualified to pass "judgement" on the subject, it is nonetheless hoped that the readers will find the paper of interest and will come to a better understanding of Papal Infallibility even if they find they are not able to "accept" it as a part of the "genius" of Roman Catholicism. It seems to the writer that the Doctrine of Papal Infallibility has become as controversial as the problem of scriptural …

A Study Of The Present And Potential Utilization Of The Boy Scout Program By Evangelical Churches, Alfred R. Crist May 1964

A Study Of The Present And Potential Utilization Of The Boy Scout Program By Evangelical Churches, Alfred R. Crist

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The evangelical Protestant movement in America is being identified as a struggle for identity and existence due to the advances made by neo-orthodoxy and liberalism into the basic beliefs of all Protestants. With this growth has come the ecumenical movement which is reaching all who profess the Christian faith. As long as these forces are gripping the mind and attention of most nominal American Protestants, the evangelical forces within this nation are being forced to re-examine their principles and programs in order to strengthen the emphasis on a vital, Bible-centered program of' evangelism and soul winning.

As evangelical Protestant denominations …
