A Survey History Of Islamic Da'wah And The Egyptian-Nigerian Connections, Luka T. Daniel Dec 1979

A Survey History Of Islamic Da'wah And The Egyptian-Nigerian Connections, Luka T. Daniel

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

For history sources, I have depended heavily on the relevant pieces of literature in my possession, on those of Loma Linda University, California, and of the University of Washington, Seattle, and on those in the Arab Republic of Egypt, particularly at Al-Azhar University, the American University at Cairo, and the British Consulate in Cairo. Further, I have had personal interviews with professors at Loma Linda and Seattle, and with Muslim and Christian scholars (clergy and laity) in Egypt and Nigeria.

Since this survey is more historical than sociological, and since Islamic da'wah is twelve to thirteen centuries older than sociological …

Women And Priestly Ministry: The New Testament Evidence, Sandra Marie Schneiders, Catholic Biblical Association Of America. Task Force

Jesuit School of Theology

In August 1976 the Executive Board of the Catholic Biblical Association of America appointed a committee of prominent scholars from its membership to study and report on the Role of Women in Early Christianity. This Committee developed into a Task Force whose members are Madeleine Boucher, Richard J Dillon, John R Donahue, Elisabeth Schüssler Fiorenza, Eugene H Maly, Sandra M Schneiders, and Richard J Sklba. The statement is a précis of the ongoing discussion of the Task Force. Their conclusion: an examination of the biblical evidence shows that there is positive evidence in the NT that ministries were shared by …

Culture Shock And Adaptation Among Student Missionaries To Japan, Sheryl J. Craig Aug 1979

Culture Shock And Adaptation Among Student Missionaries To Japan, Sheryl J. Craig

Loma Linda University Electronic Theses, Dissertations & Projects

The purpose of this study was to delineate certain parameters of the experience of student missionaries to Japan. This study was a longitudinal, descriptive study which identified background characteristics, aspects of the adaptation process, and stages and intensity of culture shock.

A group of twenty-seven student missionaries were followed from their arrival in Japan, which occurred over a three-month summer period, through the following May, just prior to their expected departure. Data were gathered using interviews, questionnaires, a semantic differential (to measure attitudes), and the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory.

The time when subjects were most at risk for high anxiety, poorer …

Contextual Factors In Church Growth In Malawi, Philip L. Capp May 1979

Contextual Factors In Church Growth In Malawi, Philip L. Capp

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

The general purpose of this study has been to select and present contextual factors from the past and present in Malawi that provide insights into the process of the growth of the Church in Malawi and in particular the growth of the Free Methodist Church. The study is done with the understanding that it is preliminary to a field study which will provide the basis for decision making by both the Church and Mission.

Past contextual factors discussed are the geographical setting, the acculturating agents and effects of acculturation with emphasis on the four major intrusions of the 19th century, and …

A Beauty Walk A Systematic Compendof Navajo Theology, Walter Snyder Apr 1979

A Beauty Walk A Systematic Compendof Navajo Theology, Walter Snyder

Master of Sacred Theology Thesis

The doctrine of god will itself be the subject of five chapters. These five chapters will treat the subjects of: The First God; The Former Gods; The Latter Gods; The Present Gods; and, Demonology. There was a serious question whether the last two chapters should come under the doctrine of god or not. The first thought was that they should be under the separate categories of angelology and demonology since they both dealt with spirits. However, in both instances these are spirits that are worshipped. Therefore, the final decision was that they should properly go under the doctrine of god. …

The Immortality Of The Soul Versus The Resurrection Of The Dead, John Sattler Feb 1979

The Immortality Of The Soul Versus The Resurrection Of The Dead, John Sattler

Master of Divinity Thesis

When preparing a presentation on 'death' for a confirmation class, I could find only weak Scriptural proof texts supporting the "traditional" view of death as "separation of body and soul:" Only a few passages spoke of the two nature sin man; namely, body and soul. None spoke in terms of an immortality in man or mentioned a "separation."

The evidence to be cited below will attempt to reveal the problems that are associated with this widely accepted concept of the fate of a Christian at death as it relates to the issue of the immortality of the soul. Several misconceptions …

Towards An Understanding Of Taiwan: (Area Profiles And Annotated Bibliography) A Research Guide For New Missionaries, Margaret M. Nelson May 1978

Towards An Understanding Of Taiwan: (Area Profiles And Annotated Bibliography) A Research Guide For New Missionaries, Margaret M. Nelson

Western Evangelical Seminary Theses

Involvement in cross-cultural missionary service is demanding. The new missionary arriving on the field is immediately confronted by a new language, a new culture, a new climate, and new obstacles to Christianity, The tasks of coping with strange customs, adapting to a different climate, learning the language, getting acquainted with· the people, and fitting into the existing missionary program all at once result in a heavy burden on the new missionary.

A Study Of The Concepts Of Worship Held By Korean Seventh-Day Adventist Youth Undergoing Cultural Shift In The United States, Kwang Rim Chough

Doctor of Ministry Projects

The purpose of this study was to develop a theology of corporate worship and to study the concepts of worship held by the youth of a specific ethnic group who are moving away from their native cultural background, and will inevitably be exposed to the new culture. The researcher of this project intends to apply these theological concepts of worship to a specifically situated group of youth, namely representatives of the second generation of the Korean Seventh-day Adventist churches in the United States.

This research and.investigation was carried out in a selected number of Korean Seventh-day Adventist churches in the …

An Exploration Of The Needs Of, And Possibilities Of Ministry To, Geographically Isolated Seventh-Day Adventists, Thomas Hunter Ludowici

Doctor of Ministry Projects

Problem

There are some Seventh-day Adventist Church members who, because of mileage distance or other geographic reason, are unable to attend a local church regularly, and whose membership is listed on the conference church roll. If the church is to minister to all its members, this segment cannot be ignored. The geographically isolated members have received very little pastoral nurture, and they have experienced only limited fellowship. As a result, generally they have maintained a weakened connection with the church at large. Because the seventh- day Sabbath is a central aspect of belief and worship practice, it is meaningful for …
