A Concordance Study Of The Concept "Word Of God", Richard R. Caemmerer
A Concordance Study Of The Concept "Word Of God", Richard R. Caemmerer
Concordia Theological Monthly
The concept "Word of God" currently occupies a crucial position in theological discussion. At least two principal reasons are apparent for this situation. Both arise from the fact that the Sacred Scriptures of Old and New Testaments came under the fire of liberal higher criticism. Thereby the significance and content of these writings was called into question, and their reliability as revelation was impugned.

Rural Life And The Church, W. W. Stuenkel
Rural Life And The Church, W. W. Stuenkel
Concordia Theological Monthly
Rural life at first was perfect. The entire first chapter of Genesis describes bow God created the various animate and inanimate objects which still today comprise rural life for us, and in the last verse we hear His evaluation: "And God saw everything that He had made, and, behold, it was very good" (Gen. 1:31). But then came the Fall and with it the curse directed particularly to agriculture, although it extended over all of man's activity: "And unto Adam He said: Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife and hast eaten of the tree of which …

A Critical Study Of The Colossian Epistle, Vernon Bowers
A Critical Study Of The Colossian Epistle, Vernon Bowers
Graduate Thesis Collection
Among the twenty-seven books in the New Testament canon, there is an epistle addressed to the church which met at Golossae. This epistle isn't very large; in fact it barely consumes four or five pages in the entire Bible. Yet it is important; for with it there is left to the Christian world a remnant of history, both of the life of the church and of the life of her greatest apostle, which it would not have otherwise possessed. A great number of Christian communications which, if they would have been preserved, would have yielded many times over the information …

Reconciliation And Justification, Adolf Koeberle
Reconciliation And Justification, Adolf Koeberle
Concordia Theological Monthly
Only he can understand the concept "reconciliation" who has experienced the implications of the separation between God and man and between man and God. He who ignores this mysterium iniquitatis and refuses to see the wide chasm between the holy God and the guilty creature cannot comprehend the glory of the concept "atonement," but on the contrary will in a rebellious spirit be offended at it.

The Sacerdotai Office Of Christ According To The Letter To The Hebrews, George Stoeckhardt
The Sacerdotai Office Of Christ According To The Letter To The Hebrews, George Stoeckhardt
Concordia Theological Monthly
The sacerdotal office of Christ reaches into the very heart and soul of our Christian faith. Christ's sacrifice, blood, and death alone provide for us true comfort in life and death. The doctrine of the sacerdotal sacrifice of Christ is the great truth with which Christian preachers arc constantly operating. Luther once remarked that a Christian preacher plays constantly on this one string. From it he may, of course, elicit a great variety of tunes and sounds. It is not necessary always to say the same things in the same words. Looking into the Scriptures, we find one and the …

The Shekinah Concept In The Biblical Era, Horace D. Hummel
The Shekinah Concept In The Biblical Era, Horace D. Hummel
Bachelor of Divinity
In brief, the problem, common to the Old Testament, as to all other religious and to all except atheistic philosophies, is that of God’s transcendence vs. His immanence. If God is the Creator, the Absolute, the Prime Mover, what contact, if any, can He have with the created, sensible universe? If the pantheistic solution of identifying creator and creation is rejected, some degree of divine transcendence must be predicated. If He is transcendent, how will he reveal Himself to mankind? Through intermediaries, or by self-revelation; and, if the latter, by theophany or incarnation?
Amerindian Creation Myths And A Common Tradition, Robert L. Lail
Amerindian Creation Myths And A Common Tradition, Robert L. Lail
Bachelor of Divinity
Thus the reader has been led to the subject of this thesis. He is aware of a universal consistency of beliefs. It is quite evident that there is a likeness between these beliefs and the accounts of Scripture. The reader is also aware of the fact that there is a difference of opinion among students of anthropology concerning the origin of these similarities. With this overall view in mind, the author has decided to limit the investigation to creation myths, and, with these, the concept of a Creator-God. The author has limited the thesis further to myths and fragments of …

The Tree Of Life Symbol; Its Significance In Ancient American Religion, Irene M. Briggs (Woodford)
The Tree Of Life Symbol; Its Significance In Ancient American Religion, Irene M. Briggs (Woodford)
Theses and Dissertations
Not too much is known today about religion of ancient Mesoamerica, and it will only be through an intensive comparative study of the various deities as presented in the heiroglyphic manuscripts and native writings, and of the symbolic religious art in the architectural and sculptural remains, that greater knowledge of the subject will be gained. The "Tree of Life," one of the most striking religious symbols of the area, may be one key to such knowledge.
