Introducing The Apocalyptic Visions Of Daniel 7, Norman C. Habel

Concordia Theological Monthly

The term "apocalyptic" has come to be used as a broad designation for a particular kind of literature and mode of thinking that was clearly distinguishable by the second century B. C. Rev. 1:1 uses the noun apokalypsis to define the hidden revelation communicated to John through special visions. This essay employs the term apocalyptic in the broad sense indicated above. The characteristics of apocalyptic will be defined in general terms below. The purpose of this essay is to introduce the reader to the distinctive apocalyptic thinking of the writer of Daniel 7 whose "one like a son of man" …

The Principles And Nature Of Consecration And Stewardship As Taught In The Bible And Modern Scripture And By The Prophets, Seers, And Revelators Of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints, Edward J. Brandt

Theses and Dissertations

This study analyzes the intent and primary bases of the L.D.S. concepts of Zion, consecration, and stewardship as it applies to the individual. Only the scripture and the statements of the Prophets, Seers, and Revelators of the L.D.S. Church are considered. An exhaustive history of consecration or stewardship is not provided. No attempt is made to establish Church doctrine.

Major conclusions are: (1) the most important definition of Zion is the "pure in heart" who, when a community, are the perfect society; (2) the concept of consecration is to wholly love God, and is achieved through the gospel of Jesus …

History Of The Davis County Clipper From Its Inception In 1891 To The Present 1970, Cammon I. Arrington

Theses and Dissertations

To write a descriptive history of the Davis County Clipper and its editors was the purpose of this study.

The first person involved with the newspaper was Lamoni Call who had been printing a small brochure to advertise his business. He asked John Stahle, Sr. to join him in printing some news along with the advertisments.

Regular publication began early in 1891 under the name of the The Little Clipper. Dissolution of the partnership came in 1894. Mr. Stahle maintained the editorial side of the newspaper his entire life. His son John Stahle, Jr. lived and loved the printing …

Erasmus, Luther, And Aquinas, Philip Watson Dec 1969

Erasmus, Luther, And Aquinas, Philip Watson

Concordia Theological Monthly

One of the most recent additions to the growing Roman Catholic literature on Luther is a study of his doctrine of the bondage of the will in the light-as the subtitle of the German edition says-of the Biblical and ecclesiastical tradition. Its author, Harry J. McSorley, endorses Luther's own view of the outstanding importance of his De servo arbitrio as dealing with the most central issue of his reforming work. He also endorses Luther's claim that his primary concern was a reformation, not simply of practical abuses but of doctrine, and he fully agrees that no area of doctrine in …

Secularization In The Centralization Of The Cult In Deuteronomy, Marvin Huggins Nov 1969

Secularization In The Centralization Of The Cult In Deuteronomy, Marvin Huggins

Master of Divinity Thesis

Since the discussion of secularization has important implications for the Church today, I have undertaken to delve into the matter to discover how much support this idea has among Old Testament scholars. In this research I have discovered that there has been a wide divergence of opinion in regard to the centralization of the cult in Deuteronomy. There are differing views as to when it might have taken place and even as to whether it took place at all. In dealing with the matter of cult centralization from the point of view of its effect on the life of the …

The Movement Toward Religious Liberty: An Examination Of The Factors Responsible For The First Amendment To The Constitution Of The United States, William Grese Nov 1969

The Movement Toward Religious Liberty: An Examination Of The Factors Responsible For The First Amendment To The Constitution Of The United States, William Grese

Bachelor of Divinity

This is the context in which this research paper is written though its goal is much more modest. We do not hope to settle the question of the intent of our founding fathers. But we want to try to determine whether the churches were at all involved in this movement toward religious freedom. Were they in favor of a separation between church and state, or did they only seek to end preference? Or were they not involved at all? At the same time, we also want to examine the various factors responsible for the first amendment and to see what …
